It includes new functions that support growing production implementations. The workflow portal client extends its current support by adding workflow process monitoring. The new expandable, pluggable framework for program execution simplifies the reuse of task implementations regardless of the message format or invocation protocol. 2 Description WebSphere MQ Workflow Portal Client The WebSphere MQ Workflow Portal Client offers capabilities beyond those of the WebSphere MQ Workflow Web Client by taking advantage of the WebSphere Portal Server environment. Using multiple instances of the WebSphere MQ Workflow List Portlets on a WebSphere Portal Server page, you can display lists of workflow items in parallel. These lists enable you to administer business processes and to work on activities in these processes. You use the second portlet of the WebSphere MQ Workflow Portal Client, called the WebSphere MQ Workflow Action Portlet, whenever you have to provide additional input to complete a task in workflow, such as starting new processes with input data or handling work items. Both types of portlets can be integrated with other portlets on a page in Portal Server. You can display information from other back-end systems on the same page as workflow data, making additional resources available to users, without forcing them to switch back and forth between multiple programs. Extend the Portal Client in the same way as you extend the Web Client. Perform activity implementations using JavaServer Pages (JSPs) for a customized look and feel depending on the task at hand. If the default layout for the views on lists or information does not satisfy your needs, you can easily customize these views without creating new portlets. Add functionality enhancements with a simple interface that integrates into the Portal Client s framework. Based on the WebSphere MQ Workflow Web Client, the Portal Client exploits existing enhancements already implemented for the Web Client. Only minor changes have to be applied to the existing client code, when you move from the Web Client to the Portal Server environment. New features in the Portal Client include: Graphical process monitor Activity instance lists Ability to display detailed information on workflow items WebSphere MQ Workflow V3.5 now supports the Portal Client on WebSphere Portal running on multiplatforms V4.1.x, V4.2.x, and V5.0, as well as on WebSphere Portal for z/os V4.1. Shared global data container (GDC) A frequent task in managing business processes is to locate business processes based on business data. Because business data occurs in multiple processes of different process templates, combined queries have to run over a number of templates. With this new release of WebSphere MQ Workflow, you can store business data (global data container values) of different process templates in one shared query table. You can use the shared GDC query table for process templates with an identical set of business data. Using this feature results in significant performance gains and offers the option to sort over GDC attributes from different process templates. Because this function exploits new GDC rules, it reduces the proliferation of GDC query tables. Existing GDC structures can remain unchanged, and you can store the new process templates in separate query tables. Generalized program execution framework This new feature helps to reduce programming diversity in the creation of user-defined program execution servers (UPES). The framework takes away the tedious parts of writing UPES, such as externalizing application functions as service interfaces to the workflow process. It provides a common base mechanism for use with Web services as well as the integration of methods of Java objects, or other programs, as workflow activity implementations. This standard UPES framework acts at the message level, enabling programmers to develop UPES tasks that map the service interface (data and invocation) required by a particular back end to the WebSphere MQ Workflow XML message formats for a specific process activity. A simple Basic UPES sample demonstrates how such UPES tasks can be developed. A new expandable, pluggable framework integrates application interfaces as services that process activity implementations, regardless of the message transport or message format, or local interface, supported by the process. It simplifies the reuse of task implementations with emerging process standards in service-oriented architectures. Activity instance list In previous releases, you could check the status of automatic unattended activity instances only through the process monitor. With the activity instance list, you can query activity instances even when no work item is associated. This new function helps process administrators to achieve transparency with process status; for example, when working on fully automated processes or when repairing automatic activities in error state. LDAP Bridge enhanced with role-based authorization mapping To ease the administration of a large number of user profiles, many organizations use a role-based authorization schema. This method links a person s authorization rights to just a few roles, reducing the number of employee-specific authorization profiles. As a consequence, the people that can assume such roles in a process also inherit the same authorization profiles linked with these roles. In contrast, WebSphere MQ Workflow uses a staff-based authorization schema, meaning that authorization rights are linked to the person. With this new feature, the LDAP Bridge can map LDAP role attributes to WebSphere MQ Workflow-based person attributes. esupport When clicking the esupport button, you get contextual help information via Internet links. For frequently asked questions, IBM collects answers and solution proposals in IBM esupport, based on input from the IBM Support Center. This way IBM can always provide the most current information. Value Unit based pricing Value Unit-based pricing will help to align the price of 5655-BPM and 5655-WFL to the principle of the PSLC pricing curve which provides for a lower price per MSU (millions of service units per hour) for larger capacities. There is also a price benefit when you grow your capacity. Additional capacity is based on the number of Value Units (MSUs) you have already installed, for example, additional capacity will not be priced starting at the base with a higher price per unit but on the capacity that is already installed. Note that Value Units of a given product cannot be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Units of another product. IPLA and subscription and support considerations IPLA licenses can be transferred from one machine to another within, but not limited to an enterprise. You can aggregate the capacity for all the processors the product is operated on to achieve a more economic price. This will result in a single Proof of Entitlement. It is your responsibility to manage the distribution of Value Units within the limits of the entitlement of the product license. Subscription and support must cover the same capacity as the product license entitlement. Subscription and support will be available in the country in which the agreement is made. Product positioning WebSphere MQ Workflow V3.5 is the business process workflow engine at the heart of Business Integration, supporting e-business customer initiatives for BPM, BAM, EAI, Web services, and portal integration. It supports long-running processes that may require human intervention and participation. Optimized for parallel distributed processing, WebSphere MQ Workflow V3.5 executes process definitions captured during modeling and ensures that business functions are performed reliably and correctly using the transactional integrity of MQSeries. It is extremely scalable, taking full advantage of multiple processors and clustering, and

4 is particularly well suited to Web server farms. It executes processes running from subseconds to many months. Its full restart and recovery capability makes it truly fault tolerant. When you require high availability, essential in today s e-business on demand environment, WebSphere MQ Workflow is the engine you can bet your mission-critical business processes on. Support by business user tooling for process monitoring, analysis, design, and simulation, WebSphere MQ Workflow gives you control and feedback on the execution of complete start-to-end business processes and the resources used. It brings humans and applications into a managed process environment. Service-oriented architectures for workflow and business integration Business processes are rarely performed by a single application, system, or person. They are often long-running and need to interact with various resources distributed throughout the extended enterprise. A process architecture is well-defined in terms of process initiators, process participants, and reusable business services. Processes provide and consume business services and automate the flow of information between steps and the selection of the resources involved. Process initiators and process participants both refer to customers, employees, partners, and applications. A process architecture needs to ensure that processes can be performed consistently across multiple access channels and the myriad of back-end systems. A process infrastructure needs to ensure reliability and scalability of process performance, so that the architecture does not break when the demand for services and process workload increases. Reusable business services can refer to: Long-running business processes and subprocesses Shorter-running message flows, process collaborations, and public B2B protocols User clients (portals, worklists, forms, ), applications, adapters, and Web services Service-oriented architectures enable the management of more complex end-to-end e-business processes by a separation of concerns and standards-based interactions. They enable managed process integration and promote loosely coupled, component-based, cross-technology solutions. In a service-oriented process architecture, you can manage the what (business processes and metrics) separate from the how (resources provide services to a process via the network). Teams of people can contribute to automated processes with decisions, knowledge, physical work, and exception handling. Processes can be streamlined by application development and integration projects to eliminate bottlenecks and resource constraints. Processes need to be visible, measurable, changeable, and in-sync with business design. Separating business process logic from IT and organizational infrastructures enables your organization to be agile in a constantly changing and dynamic marketplace vital in the competitive world of e-business. WebSphere MQ Workflow encapsulates process logic, enhancing e-business flexibility, and links process logic to application functions and human input from teams. It ensures that your business and IT requests are processed the way you want. It gives you the flexibility to change business processes separate from upgrades to individual applications, and provides process visibility to business users. Leveraging open standards Managing business process workflows in real e-business requires the integration of services provided by distributed resources, independent of the technologies used for implementation. WebSphere MQ Workflow allows you to fully leverage your existing resources in IT and organization infrastructures with your business process workflows. It supports a broad range of open standards and interfaces to support service-oriented architectures and process interactions with services provided by systems and people. Web Services, XML, and J2EE are the standards that link business processes and applications; they are supported throughout all dimensions of the WebSphere software platform for on demand e-business. XML, Web services, and Web Services Description Language (WSDL) describe process interfaces to the network XML has standardized the data syntax for document processing and exchange, and has gained worldwide acceptance for the exchange of messages between applications. Message formats are often described in DTD or XSD, and can be parsed dynamically at run time. Web services offer a standard for externalizing network application to the network, offering a predefined structure to message formats for process integration. Web services are often associated with, but not necessarily restricted to, SOAP messages and UDDI directories. WSDL provides standard, extensible support for describing service interfaces, transaction and security needs, and transport protocols. WebSphere MQ Workflow makes extensive use of XML in message-based application integration, audit event monitoring, and more. XML messages can be transformed using Java XSLT programs and complementary WebSphere Business Integration software. J2EE application programs and user interfaces to business process workflows Today, Java is one of the most mature and commonly used programming languages for building enterprise software. J2EE provides the open standards for hosting application transactions and user interface components for the Internet

5 WebSphere MQ Workflow supports interaction with J2EE applications using XML messages and MQSeries Java programs (and XSLT, for example), JMS publish-subscribe (for monitoring audit events), and SOAP Web services. WebSphere MQ Workflow includes Web browser access to business processes that provide built-in workflow, Web, and portal clients based on JSPs and servlets and can be hosted on standard J2EE run times such as WebSphere Application Server. A complementary JSP forms wizard further simplifies the creation of user interface applications to the process. The new workflow portal client standardizes the integration of workflow client functions with user content from other sources (applications and databases) on the same Web page, and leverages the latest J2EE-based portlet technology. Flow Definition Language (FDL) FDL is the proven, open process definition interface to WebSphere MQ Workflow. It is a simple text-based flat file format and successfully used by all customers, partners, domain-specific solutions, and tools that support WebSphere MQ Workflow. Examples include IBM tools for process modeling and monitoring, an IBM bridge for IDS-Prof. Scheer ARIS Toolset (available as a support pack), Adonis, and the financial services workflow templates from IFW, WebSphere Business Integration for Industries. With FDL, you can exchange process interface definitions with other tools, for example with WebSphere Studio Application Developer via the JSP wizard, or with Web services Toolkit via the SOAP SupportPac (WA07), or with WebSphere Studio Application Developer Integration Edition via the flow engine interoperability between a WebSphere Application Server and the upcoming IBM SupportPac WA86. This process definition language is independent from business process modeling and cost analysis methodology like LOVEM, activity-based costing (ABC), or application development methodologies like UML. You can continue to use your methodology of choice. Tools like WebSphere Business Integration Workbench V4.2.4, add methodology support to FDL and capabilities to access process knowledge kept in other tools, such as UML and XMI used with Rational Rose. Business process workflow definitions in FDL can be mapped to WSDL and Business Process Execution Language for Web Services (BPEL4WS) with extensions, as demonstrated by current and upcoming IBM SupportPacs respectively, to ensure compatibility with emerging standards, investment protection, and future growth. BPEL4WS is a new extensible standard for process content for service-oriented architectures. It is based on XML, leverages WSDL for process interface definitions, and extends it with process content. Workflow Management Coalition (WfMC) IBM is a funding member of the WfMC. Founded in August 1993, WfMC is a non-profit, international organization of workflow vendors, users, analysts, and university and research groups. The coalition s mission is to promote and develop the use of workflow through the establishment of standards for software terminology, interoperability, and connectivity between workflow products. The referring APIs are available based on this modular architecture. IBM continues to be a major contributor to future standard development. e-business on demand Workflows and integration Workflows are the parts of a business process that run on a computer. Business processes describe the typical operations of a company. They are sequences of activities, passing information automatically between steps and to the resources that perform a piece of work. Systems and humans can contribute to processes by providing a specific business service. Processes are not necessarily run on a computer. A workflow model may be just a small part of a larger process model, or it may encompass the whole process model. Business processes are rarely performed by only a single application, system, or person. The vast majority of processes are a mixture of work steps performed by humans and applications. Ultimately, companies may want to completely automate their processes. Applications are integrated and new application components are developed for routine steps in the process to automate standard tasks. People can enhance automated processes with human knowledge and skills, or physical work, for approvals, decisions, teamwork, as well as for solving exceptions, errors, and complaints that cannot be fully automated in a cost-effective way. WebSphere MQ Workflow for Business Integration BPM, BAM, EAI, Portal Integration: WebSphere Business Integration Server enables a blending of process management with integration on the process and the message level. WebSphere MQ Workflow is best used for long-running processes supporting human interaction, supporting WBI Workbench V4 for process monitoring and analysis using key performance indicators and proving integration support for CICS, IMS, WebSphere MQ, JMS, J2EE, Web services, and user clients (browser, portal, and Windows). WebSphere Interchange Server and WebSphere MQ Integrator Broker add integration support beyond standards, providing message flows, B2B public protocols, and process collaboration with packaged application adapters. WebSphere MQ Workflow V3.5 enables the explicit management of long-running business process workflows as they interact with systems and people for service delivery. Workflow client support via Web browsers, native Windows desktops, and the workflow portal client enables the LOB workforce management to contribute work to business processes via integrated user interfaces. Business activity monitoring and business process analysis WebSphere Business Integration tools for business process analysis, design and simulation, and business activity monitoring are fully supported by WebSphere MQ Workflow V3.5. Application and user interactions can be monitored via workflow processes, passing data container and process context information to the WBI Workbench V4. This can include application-specific events handled by process collaborations or message flows that interact with WebSphere MQ Workflow. In addition, processes

6 designed with WBI Workbench V4 can be readily deployed to WebSphere MQ Workflow for execution. Business process workflow and application workflow: Workflow, flow composition, and service choreography are common requirements for both the build to integrate and the process integration styles of integration. Many customers use WebSphere MQ Workflow successfully for business integration. Application developers want access to flow technology to create composite applications from existing software assets exposing service interfaces. A new range of J2EE-based flow capabilities with WebSphere Application Server V5 are now available for Java programmers to develop comprehensive build-to-integrate solutions. J2EE, XML, and Web services are the open standards that link workflow capabilities using the same service-oriented architecture. You can extend your use of business process workflows to new J2EE-based flow technology embedded in Java applications, with flow engine interoperability. Planning information Value Unit-based pricing: Value Unit-based pricing helps to align the price of 5655-BPM and 5655-WFL to the principle of the PSLC pricing curve, which provides for a lower price per MSU (millions of service units per hour) for larger capacities. There is also a price benefit when you grow your capacity. Additional capacity is based on the number of Value Units (MSUs) you already have installed; for example, additional capacity is not priced starting at the base with a higher price per unit, but on the capacity that is already installed. Note that Value Units of a given product cannot be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Units of another product. IPLA and subscription and support considerations: IPLA licenses can be transferred from one machine to another within, but not limited to an enterprise. You can aggregate the capacity for all the processors the product is operated on to achieve a more economic price. This will result in a single Proof of Entitlement. It is your responsibility to manage the distribution of Value Units within the limits of the entitlement of the product license. Workstation program Workstation licensing per processor: For WebSphere MQ Workflow V3.5, customers pay a license charge based on the number of processors in the run-time and database server machine, regardless of whether all these processors are used to run the program; the charge unit is the Processor License Unit (PLU). Charging: Charges for authorized use of WebSphere MQ Workflow V3.5 are based on PLUs. The use of WebSphere MQ Workflow V3.5 on any run-time and database server machine requires one PLU to be acquired (from IBM or an IBM Business Partner) for each processor contained in the run-time and database server machine on which any copy of the WebSphere MQ Workflow V3.5 is to run; usage of WebSphere MQ Workflow Buildtime is free. PLUs are required for every run-time and database server machine on which the WebSphere MQ Workflow V3.5 is installed. You are also required to obtain a corresponding number of additional PLUs if the WebSphere MQ Workflow V3.5 installation is moved to a server machine with a greater number of processors, or if any additional processors are added to the runtime and database server machine on which the WebSphere MQ Workflow V3.5 is installed. Failure to comply with the requirement for the appropriate number of PLUs will invalidate the terms of this license. The customer must have signed the Attachment for zseries Workload License Charges-Pre-ILM, Z , and submitted at least one Sub-Capacity Report to IBM as defined in the attachment. With sub-capacity charges, the charge for an eligible tool is based on the z/os product-defined capacity. To obtain charges at less than full machine capacity for each eligible tool for each machine, the customer should: Determine the MSUs needed for the machine on which the tools will run. In a data sharing environment, determine the aggregate MSUs needed on the machine where the tools run. Use the product-defined capacity (MSUs) for z/os (as specified on the Sub-Capacity Reports submitted to IBM for sub-capacity WLC) as the sub-capacity (MSUs) for each tool. Submit any additional MSUs or Value Units required for each product along with the current entitlement in Value Units for each product. If the use of sub-capacity pricing terms for tools results in a reduced requirement for Value Units, thus freeing up entitlements, you can reallocate the entitlement difference by distributing the Value Units across a larger or different set of systems, or reserve them for future growth. There will be no refunds for these freed up Value Units. Subscription and support volumes and entitlements for existing contracts will continue to be at the same levels as the acquired licenses. Management of the Value Unit entitlements continues to be a customer responsibility. If one of the following occur on a machine to which tools are licensed, the customer must determine if additional Value Units and subscription and support need to be ordered for those tools to cover the increase: The z/os-defined capacity is increased. The requirements for WLC sub-capacity charges are no longer met. On/Off Capacity on Demand To be eligible for On/Off Capacity on Demand pricing, customers must be enabled for temporary capacity on the corresponding hardware, and the required contract Z , Attachment for Customer Initiated Upgrade and IBM eserver On/Off Capacity on Demand Software must be signed before use.
