2 November, 2006 Using multiple RP-6 central processors in a system In the event that an installation s control requirements exceed the capabilities of a single RP-6 central processor (ex: controlling ten identical satellite receivers exceeds the infrared routing capability of a single RP-6 processor), the use of multiple RP-6 processors within a system can infinitely expand the control options of RTI products. TheaterTouch Designer Programming software allows for the ability to include up to 256 devices (central processors, in-wall, or handheld controllers). Thus, you could theoretically have a single remote or in-wall product communicate with up to 255 central processors. In order to do this, you will need to ensure that the trigger code sent from the handheld or in-wall product is received by each processor. While each processor connected would receive each trigger code, only the desired processor(s) will execute the command, based on matching the trigger code sent from the handheld or in-wall product, with the associated commands stored in each processor. Below are some examples of methods to transfer trigger codes between multiple RP-6 central processors. RP-6 processors located close together: Connect signal in and ground between processors to transfer trigger code. Connect +12VDC, ground, and signal to RM-433 antenna(s) *Note that while this example illustrates a trigger code originating from an RM-433 RF antenna, you could also use this configuration to transfer trigger codes sent from an RTI in-wall product or IR receiver. 2006
3 Technical Support Department Technical Bulletin August, 2005 Communicating with multiple RTI Control Processors from one RTI Remote TheaterTouch Designer 3.0 or higher allows you to communicate with multiple RTI control processors from one remote. You even have the ability to communicate with multiple control processors from within a single macro. The process to do this is as follows: Step 1 Place all control processors as well as the remote(s) that will be communicating with them, into one system file of the TheaterTouch software. Step 2 Establish a default system controller for each remote in the system file. To do this, right click on the remote icon in the system workspace, and select "Properties". Next, select the "Output" tab. You will see a pull down menu that allows you to select the default controller which the remote will be communicating with. Click OK when you have selected the appropriate control prcoessor. Step 3 You can overide the default setting by right clicking on any button(s) of the remote, and selecting the "Properties" menu. Next, select the "Output" tab. You can now overide the default controller settings by selecting an alternate controller for the selected button(s) to communicate with. Click OK when finished. Addressing Multiple Control Processors within a single macro To send commands to multiple RTI control processors with one button press, follow the instructions below: 1. Left click on the control processor you with to place a command onto. This will bring the programming window to the forfront. Next click "add new system macro", and label the description of the macro's function. Next, left click on the macro window to the left of the description. Place the commands you wish to have be sent from this control processor in the macro editing window. Click OK when finished. Repeat this process on any other control processors in the system. 2. Right click on the button of the remote you wish to create the macro, which will send commands to multiple processors. Select the "Propeties" menu, followed by "Output". Change the output type to standalone for this button. Click OK. Next, right click on this same button and select "Create Macro". When the macro editor opens, select "system macro" from the command type list. You will see the option of selecting the appropriate control processor, followed by system macros that exist on the selected processor. You can drag the appropraite system macros from each processor into the macro. The remote will now send out trigger codes to the appropriate control processor. 2005
4 RP-6 processors remotely located (transferring trigger code directly from RM-433 antenna): In this example, you would power the RM-433 antenna from 1 RP-6, connecting +12VDC, signal, and ground on the first RP-6 to the RM-433. The second RP-6 would receive the trigger code from the RM-433 by simply connecting signal and ground. In this example you be would connecting two conductors into the signal and ground connection of the RM-433 (one for each RP-6 processor). +12VDC ground ground signal signal RM-433 Radio Frequency Antenna 2006
5 +12VDC signal Connecting both in-wall and handheld products to communicate with multiple processors: In this example, multiple processors are being controlled by both handheld and in-wall RTI products. A CB-4 four device connecting block is being used to route the signal from the in-wall product(s) to the RP-6 central processors. An RM-433 is being used to send radio frequency trigger codes from handheld controllers to the RP-6 central processors. Note that you can use either the phoenix or RJ-45 connection to connect the in-wall products to the CB-4, as well as to the RP-6 central processor. If using the phoenix connector for connecting the CB-4, you can share the signal in and ground connections of a single RP-6 with the connections originating from the RM-433 RF antenna. signal ground RJ-45 connection from CB-4 to expansion port on RP-6 CB-4 Four Device Connecting Block RM-433 Radio Frequency Antenna 2006
