3 About us Banana Moon Day Nursery was started in 2006 as a result of the difficulties encountered by one of our directors when trying to place his own children in what he considered to be a good quality day nursery. It soon became clear that the standards he required could not be met by any of the childcare businesses he visited, as a result of which the decision was taken to open his own nursery. Initially this was done by securing a franchise in an existing day nursery network, but it soon became apparent that the nursery had outgrown the franchisor and was in fact leading the development of the franchise, in terms of business modelling, legislation and codes of practice, so a decision was made to remove the business from the franchise network and go it alone under the Banana Moon Day Nursery brand. During this period a second nursery had been opened to serve the increasing local demand and within just a few months the nurseries were being recognised as the best in Warwickshire. Why franchise?
