Contact: (Taiwan) (Shanghai) Introduction JMemoryGuard provides functions to monitor the JVM memory usage of specific servers, schedule garbage collection, and send notification while server is disconnected. It can efficiently help administrators to fully understand the JVM memory status of the server, and help to adjudge and control the health of the server. JMemoryGuard (V1.2 above) provides new function Trend Analysis. Through memory usage log, it forecasts when memory will be exhausted. JMemoryGuard can be used on most popular Java servers, such as Oracle WebLogic Server, IBM WebSphere Server, Jboss, Tomcat, etc. 1/14

2 JMemoryGuard Features 1. Server JVM Memory Detection Automatically detect the JVM Memory Size allocated for the Server 2. Scheduled Garbage Collection Users can schedule the execution of Garbage Collection during a specific interval 2/14

6 System Requirement 1. Monitored Server Every Java Server with Servlet Container in it, e.g. Tomcat, BEA WebLogic,IBM WebSphere, etc. 2. Monitor Client Java JRE 1.2 environment or above (version 1.4 is recommended). 6/14

7 Run & Configure JMemoryGuard 1. Run JMemoryGuard (1) Get the license file JMemoryGuard.license and put it in the same directory with jmemoryguard.jar file. (2) Deploy jmemoryguard.war file to the server you want to monitor. (3) Under command line, execute startup.bat file (Windows environment) or execute the command java jar jmemoryguard.jar under Windows or Unix environment. Please make sure the JAVA_HOME variable is set and point to the JDK installation directory (JDK 1.4 recommended). You will see the screen below after JMemoryGuard is successfully startup. 7/14

8 (4) Open / New a Project, and click OK. (5) You will see screen as below if the project is successfully applied. JMemoryGuard will automatically detect the Server s JVM memory setting and present on the Y-axis. 8/14

9 (6) Click Start to run, and you will see the server s JVM memory usage as below. 9/14

10 2. Project Configuration (1) Specify Project Name Specify a name for the project, system will automatically check to avoid a duplicated project name. (2) Specify server IP address and port number Specify the server IP address and port number you want to monitor. The default port number is 80 if not specified. 10/14

11 (3) Specify the size for Low Memory Threshold JMemoryGuard will execute Garbage Collection if the free memory size is below the threshold. User will also receive a notification via if the Send on Threshold Reached box is checked. 11/14

12 (4) Specify the interval you want the Garbage Collection to run It will be 30 minutes if not specified. JMemoryGuard will automatically execute Garbage Collection every 30 minutes or the interval you specified. (5) Configure the Server setting The port number will be 25 if not specified. Provide the User ID and password to login the Server if necessary. Specify the address to receive the notification in Mailing List field. If there is more than one receiver, use the semicolon ( ; ) to separate them up. 12/14

13 (6) Specify if send on Low Memory Threshold Reached Specify if you want JMemoryGuard sends notifications to the receivers in the Mailing list when JMemoryGuard detects that the free memory of the monitored server reaches the Low Memory Threshold you specified. (7) Specify if send on Monitored Server Disconnected Specify if you want JMemoryGuard sends notifications to the receivers in the Mailing list when JMemoryGuard detects that the monitored server is disconnected. 13/14
