With one of the lowest tuition and required fees of all four-year institutions in Illinois, SIUE offers educational excellence that is affordable. Paying for College Quick Facts More than 70% Newly enrolled SIUE freshmen or transfer undergraduate students lock in a guaranteed tuition rate for four continuous academic years. of the SIUE student body receives financial aid. SIUE awarded more than $148 million in grants, loans, tuition waivers, scholarships and student employment to students last year. Out-of-state residents qualifying for special tuition rates can save more than $40,000 over four years at SIUE. Last year, SIUE awarded more than 3,200 competitive merit-based scholarships with a four-year value ranging from $8,000 to full tuition.

4 Paying for College Now that you have decided SIUE is the right place for you, the next step is to make a plan to pay for college. Financing your education doesn t have to be a mystery. The SIUE Office of Financial Aid will work with you to put together a combination of scholarships, grants, student loans, parent loans and student employment to help you fund your education. Last year alone, SIUE administered more than $148 million in student financial aid. No matter what your financial circumstances, the SIUE Office of Financial Aid is here to help you afford a quality education. SIUE s textbook rental program is an economical alternative to purchasing most textbooks. The rental fee ($16.30 per credit hour) is included in student fees. Don t forget to budget for recreation, supplies, personal items and other expenses, which are not paid directly to the University. In-state tuition available to residents of: Arkansas, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee and Wisconsin; children, grandchildren, siblings, step-children of SIUE alumni; students with an ACT score of 27 or above (SAT ). High-Achiever Scholarship 12/1/2015 Geographic Enhancement Opportunity Scholarship (GEO) 12/1/2015 International students eligible Eligible out-of-state freshmen and transfer students receive the in-state tuition rate. The scholarship equates to an annual reduction in tuition of approximately $11,000 (based on15 semester hours of credit) as funding is available. Freshmen and transfers meeting criteria are eligible for up to $9,400 (based on 15 semester hours of credit) as funding is available. First-time, full-time out-of-state freshmen with a composite ACT 27 (1210 SAT). First-time, fulltime admitted transfers with a 3.5 cumulative GPA in at least 24 hours of transferable coursework. First-time, full-time admitted out-ofstate freshmen (with a composite ACT score 23 and/or 1050 SAT), transfers (3.0 GPA in at least 24 hours of transferable coursework), international students (2.9 GPA and 79 TOEFL, or equivalent), or who have been recognized through a competitive departmental process 6

Department Scholarships: SIUE offers several academic scholarships in specific areas of study. More than 450 scholarship opportunities are available to eligible SIUE students! For more information, and to search and apply for scholarships, please visit siue.edu/academicworks.com. Paying for College checklist for entering students n Scholarships are awarded at the beginning of each fall semester only. To be considered for most SIUE scholarships, submit your completed admission application and all supporting documents postmarked by December 1. n Entering freshmen only: To be considered for Meridian Scholarships, submit the Meridian Supplemental Profile, which includes a resume and essay, postmarked by December 1. The profile can be found at siue.edu/meridian. n Students must obtain an FSA ID for identification purposes. Visit fafsa.gov and click on Start a new FAFSA, then Enter the student s information. Parents may be directed to do the same later in the application process. The FSA ID (a user-created username and password) allows students to electronically access personal information on Federal Student Aid websites and electronically sign the FAFSA. n As soon after January 1 as possible, complete a FAFSA online at fafsa.gov and have your processed financial aid information sent to SIUE (Title IV code ). You do not have to have your taxes completed before you submit the FAFSA; you may estimate income information and return to the FAFSA later, after your taxes are completed, and make corrections. n Prepare your tax returns as soon as possible. n Beginning in April, watch your SIUE for notification of your financial aid award from SIUE. You may receive a request for additional information to complete the verification process. n Once you are an enrolled SIUE student, you can check on your personal student records through CougarNet at siue.edu/cougarnet or find a student job at siue.edu/studentemployment. 7

10 Consider Your Options: Financial Aid We know that paying for college can be stressful. At SIUE, our financial aid office is ready to help you find options to finance your education and realize your dreams. We will work with you to manage college costs, regardless of your financial circumstances. SIUE offers state and federal grants, a variety of federal loan options, and student employment to assist in providing you a most competitive financial aid package. It may not be easy, but consider it an investment in your future. The first step is to complete the FAFSA. You can link from the SIUE financial aid website at siue.edu/financialaid or directly at fafsa.gov. Complete the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1 of your high school senior year. To qualify for financial aid at SIUE, you must: n Be admitted as a degreeseeking student n Enroll at least half-time each term (six hours for undergraduates, five hours for graduates) n Maintain satisfactory academic progress n Not be in default on other student loans or owe a grant refund SIUE Federal School Code How to apply for financial aid Getting started is easier than you might think. 1. Go to FAFSA website, fafsa.gov; click on Start a New FAFSA. 2. Create an FSA ID. This will be used as your identifier and electronic signature. A parent may also need to apply for an FSA ID. 3. Complete your FAFSA online. You can file your FAFSA before completing your 2015 tax return. You may estimate your tax information and when your taxes have been submitted, return to the FAFSA website and make corrections. You may use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to enter your income information directly on the FAFSA approximately three weeks after you have submitted your federal taxes.
