4 president s message As the UK s largest specialist professional body dedicated to serving the public and its members professional development, IHEEM has a responsibility to widen access to its courses, events and publications and to provide its members with the highest service possible. This document sets out how this has been achieved in 2011 I am pleased to report that in spite of the ongoing global recession, IHEEM saw only a small drop in membership to 1630 and the Institute s Affiliate Schemes go from strength to strength with a total of 173 Affiliates at the end of the year. The partnerships that the Institute has established with companies, NHS Trusts and universities form the basis for increasing membership and extending the range of CPD and other courses that are run around the country and overseas. I would particularly like to highlight the success of Risk management, FM compliance and Electrical Installation courses during this year, as they addressed the most urgent topics identified by members. Our Branches play a key role in delivering these courses and I would like to highlight the good work being done by our Committee in Hong Kong in this regard. Our governance review has resulted in a smaller number of Board members and I would like to thank all members of the Board and the Head Office staff for their outstanding contribution. I would particularly like to thank Richard Boyce who has undertaken the role of Acting CEO this year with characteristic commitment and enthusiasm. As we look forward to our 75th Anniversary in 2018, we are undertaking a review of our Strategic plan to ensure that we fulfil our potential in the UK and overseas. The outcome of this review will be reported in I look forward to meeting you at the IHEEM Conference in Manchester on 9th & 10th October. Paul Kingsmore President Visit us at 04

5 CEO s message As I joined IHEEM as CEO in April 2012, my report for the financial year 2011 is confined to reporting that the Institute continues to ensure that its services to members are of excellent quality and value, and that the Strategic review which began in 2011 will be concluded in 2012 and implemented immediately after it has been agreed by Council. The President reports separately on the Institute s activities during the course of the year and one of key aims of the Strategic Review will be to provide enhanced services to members in the UK and overseas. Working in partnership with the Department of Health, industry partners and academia, the Institute has great potential to build on its strong foundations to increase its membership and ability to provide professional development for a wider range of those working in the Healthcare Estates sector. The use of new media, video conferencing and webinars will also form part of the Strategic Review and will enable more frequent and cost effective communications with members. In the context of the current wide ranging reforms underway in the NHS, the Institute s role has never been more important and I look forward to working with the Head Office staff and Members to achieve the challenging goals that the Strategic Plan will identify.
