Formed a multidisciplinary group of operating room nurses (Perioperative Patient Safety Committee), preop and recovery nurses, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and hospital continuous quality improvement personnel to work together to resolve cross-disciplinary system problems that impair perioperative patient safety. Vacated position during l leave Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellowship, Institute of Medicine, Washington, DC The health policy fellowship involved a residential experience in Washington DC, followed by continued health policy training, including development of a health policy curriculum for health science students. During the 4 month orientation, fellows met with directors at the Institute of Medicine, key executive branch officials responsible for health policy and programs (e.g. CDC, FDA, DOD, many branches of HHS, GAO, CRS, CBO), members of Congress and their staff, leaders of health and health policy interest groups, leaders of think tanks, health economists, and many different stakeholder groups. The breadth of health policy curriculum was broad and included health economics, federal budget process, a wide variety of federal health policy issues including health information technology, Medicare reform, Affordable Care Act, Medicaid Expansion, drug safety and regulation, public health concerns, healthcare workforce changes. The fellows also underwent leadership and media training. The fellows joined the American Political Science Association

January-August 2103: Health Subcommittee of the House Ways and Means Committee, which has jurisdiction over federal health care spending.
