Colorado Community College System Dual Enrollment: is a generic term for a program allowing a student to be enrolled in two separate institutions at the same time Concurrent Enrollment Programs Act: is a type of dual enrollment program that is explicitly defined in statute and provides the opportunity for students to earn high school and college credit at the same time ASCENT: is a 5 th year program for the student who has completed or is on schedule to complete at least 12 credit hours of post secondary coursework by the end of his/her 12 th grade year 8 Designated CTE schools statewide 4 Dept. of Corrections
Front Range Community 4 locations College Westminster Campus Boulder County Campus (Longmont) Larimer County Campus (Ft. Collins) Brighton Center College wide strategic plan focused on: Concurrent Enrollment Underserved dpopulations lti Targeted districts College wide high schoolprograms = College Now Additional program strategic plan created
Making our Strategic Plan a Reality Focus energy on creating access for students Branching into the CTE realm in addition to core classes Create pathways for students To explore programs Work towards a program/degree of their choice
Creating Pathways CTE focus Looking at articulation agreements Reviewing college certificates. How do articulated credits apply? Options Convert articulated courses to concurrent credit Pair articulated credit with concurrent credit Focus on options, pathways, and completion!
Why CTE? Vision: ColoradoCTEdelivers CTE delivers proven pathways to lifelong career success! Mission: CTE ensures a thriving Colorado economy by providing relevant and rigorous education that is connected, responsive and real Perkins Funded NOT general fund! Remember!. CTE is the only aspect of education that is DIRECTLY connected to Business & Industry.
PWR Standards! INDUSTRY PLAN OF STUDY

Getting Started Start small and grow Identify goals and priorities of the partnership Are there articulation agreements already in place? Identify opportunities for college credits Identify articulation vs. concurrent enrollment
Concurrent Enrollment Benefits of using high school instructors Students know the teachers More likely to try a college class Eases the transition Scheduling possible during the school day Professional Development for teachers Solves the transportation problem for students
Instructor Qualifications Submit Transcripts, resume, CTE credentials to be reviewed by Department Chairs Instructors must meet college requirements
Articulation Agreements Benefits of pairing with Concurrent Enrollment Credit applicable to a college degree/certificate at designated college after high school No cost to students or districts Curriculum competencies align between high school and college Reduces classes needed to complete a degree/certificate after high school Can be paired with Concurrent Enrollment
Higher Learning Commission (HLC) Cannot offer 50% or more of any degree or financial aid eligible certificate at a site Combine articulation and CE courses to get the most bang for your buck
Example pathway: Welding Articulated credit WEL 100 Safety for Welders (1 cr.) + Concurrent Enrollment credit WEL 101 Allied Cutting Processes (4 cr.) = Students graduate with Oxyacetylene Welding certificate!
Example pathway: Automotive Articulated credit Concurrent Enrollment credit Students graduate with Engine Repair certificate! ASE 100 Auto Shop Orientation (1 cr.) + ASE 130 General Engine Diagnosis (2 cr.) ASE 160 Auto Engine Removal & Installation (1 cr.) ASE 161 E i Di bl ASE 161 Engine, Disassembly Diagnosis and Assembly (5 cr.) =

Clear Expectations Deadlines! Who can participate? i t Who will teach? What courses are we going to offer with CE vs. Articulation? When will the courses take place? (Yearlong or semester) Where will the course be held? Does the room meet college expectations/requirements? Why should students participate? (Pathways) a How will we work together to make it happen?
