6 The Problem. All of that traffic at a small airport at the same time, will cause this.. Several Charters arriving on the same day within an hour Plus Scheduled Service Over 600 passengers departing in one hour Only 274 seats in the departure lounge
7 The Solution. Expansion! and in a hurry!!!
8 The Question? Should we add a Common Use Solution to our new modest expansion? $6 million dollar expansion loading bridges Promised - No cost to the airlines old infrastructure wiring and distance Airline IT time constraints No cost to the airlines Bigger question Will the airlines support it? 8
9 The Question? Surprisingly the answers were as follows: The airlines especially our CPA carriers wanted out of the IT business Traditional Common Use Not really interested but would look at it as an option. New Cloud based virtual solution YES! 9
10 The Answer. After investigating the several cloud based options. London Airport decided on Arinc s VMuse Why? Cost effective - No cost to the airlines No expensive hubs or company specific hardware to install Airline confidence Ease of the install ARINC could meet our 90 day window Minimal training for airport and airline staff Support mechanisms at your finger tips Great for business development No cost and ease of bringing on new airlines! 10
11 90 Days until the Grand Opening Here is what we did: Arinc secured all of the hardware requirements Talked to the Airline IT folks and set up a timeline Worked with the phone companies Bell / Verizon Worked with local internet providers for backup lines Worked with our construction company conduit and power Lets Shoot the puck!! 11
12 The Process A Fairly Simple and painless process from an airport perspective: Bell and Verizon fiber lines were all done in the background Local Internet provider ran the new lines into our new departure lounge Some boxes arrived with new two routers connected those Connected my laptop and the connection worked! Airport MTC ran lines from the routers to the podiums Some more boxes arrived right before Christmas with regular PCs, BP printers, Okidata printers and some scanners One staff member arrived the first week of January on a Monday By Tuesday we had one machine up and running! By Thursday all were up and running! Training took one hour for each airline and one hour for the airport! Staff member left on Friday And 12
13 The start up This entire project was going to depend on the success of the first morning in operation. A huge success. Which lead to.. Airline confidence and no anxiety It looks and feels the same Airport confidence No IT staff on hand The reboot process happens in Miami. Cool How does this work without all of the hardware on site? Minimal spares on site due to confidence levels Help is simply a call away 24 hours a day Ease in detection of where any issues are NO COSTS TO THE AIRLINES! 13
14 Today With confidence I can say this (and dare I say it) After almost two years of using the Vmuse Cloud Platform, the London Airport has had no service interruptions at all. There isn t many airline based systems that can say that. That is unbelievable! 14
15 The Future Considering the following: 1/ Stable Platform 2/ Airline trust 3/ Airport trust 4/ High levels of confidence 5/ The opportunity for business development 6/ Cost savings for the airlines 7/ Same pricing for maintenence and support Multiple stations The London Airport over the next year or so will be implementing a Cloud based VMuse solution for the entire airport. 15
