31 What should / shouldn t you carry from India to Sweden Textbooks If you prefer paperbacks over e-books - books are expensive in Sweden Ethernet cable Most apartments do not provide this and you might need it as soon as you move Basic 2-pin convertor plug International Debit Card / travel card For use in the time that your Swedish bank account is being activated A pair of comfortable walking shoes Since there is a lot of walking around that you would do Winter wear Carry just about enough to make it to the store! 1-2 wool sweaters & shawls are sufficient Buy clothing and accessories for Sweden, in Sweden. They would withstand the climate of the country better than anything from India Food Everything you need is available in Sweden. There are also Indian food stores that stock specific items. IKEA helps! Too much of anything Travel light and pick things up as you go along

38 Student Application Process In order to study in Sweden for more than 3 months one needs to apply for a residence permit Requirements: You have to: Be admitted to full-time studies Have comprehensive health insurance that covers the whole period you are in Sweden if you plan to study for less than one year Be able to support yourself Have a valid passport Embassy of Sweden, New Delhi

39 How to apply for a residence permit? Online Application Family members can apply at the same time as you Must be applied for immediately upon receipt of acceptance from the university and from the country of residence Embassy of Sweden, New Delhi

40 Online Application Complete the application form Attach all necessary documents Pay the appl. fee online SEK - Visa /Mastercard Send the application electronically to the Swedish Migration Agency Payment has to be made at the time of submitting application Embassy of Sweden, New Delhi

42 Tuition fees If you are obligated to pay tuition fees, a portion of the fees must be paid in advance (partial fee) to the institution Each institution decides on the amount of the partial fee The institution notifies the Swedish Migration Agency once the payment has been made Information regarding the tuition fees and cut-off dates can be obtained from the institution Embassy of Sweden, New Delhi

43 Financial means Requirement: Sufficient funds to cover your living expenses during the period for which you are applying for A scholarship or by own means (personal bank assets) A minimum of SEK per month Funds need to be at your disposal on your own account Embassy of Sweden, New Delhi

45 Processing Biometrics/residence permit card Applicants need to visit the Embassy in New Delhi at some point in order to submit biometrics (bring the passport registered in the application for identification) When the permit is approved and the residence permit card has been ordered it will take about 3-4 weeks until it reaches the Embassy. We offer courier service for a charge of 500 INR. Waiting time Processing time approximately 3 months.
