RHP Hector Noesi takes the mound for the White Sox, who are in fourth place in the American League Central, 14.0 games off the pace. Following this three-game series, the Sox conclude the homestand with four games against Detroit (8/29-31), which includes a split doubleheader on Saturday. The White Sox were swept by New York at Yankee Stadium last weekend, losing two of the three games on walkoff hits. TONIGHT S STORYLINES The White Sox are a season-high 13 games under.500. The Sox are 6-2 at home vs. Cleveland this season after going 1-9 in Jose Abreu has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games, going (.390) with two home runs and eight RBI. Alexei Ramirez has homered in back-to-back games for the second time this season and needs three for 100 in his career. LAST NIGHT S RECAP Zach Walters hit a two-run homer off Jake Petricka with no outs in the 10th inning to give Cleveland an 8-6 victory over the White Sox. Alexei Ramirez went 2-5 with a home run (No. 13), three RBI and two runs scored, and Avisail Garcia was 2-5 with a double and two RBI. Jose Quintana posted a no decision, allowing six runs on nine hits over 5.0 IP Petricka gave up his second consecutive game-winning homer (8/24 at the Yankees). The Indians ended a four-game losing streak in Chicago. FALL GUYS SS Tim Anderson, the White Sox No. 1 pick in the 2013 draft, headlines a group of seven players from within the organization who will play in the 2014 Arizona Fall League. Joining Anderson on the Glendale Desert Dogs are RHP Chris Bassitt, RHP Francellis Montas, LHP Jefferson Olacio, 1B Rangel Ravelo, C Kevan Smith and LHP Scott Snodgress, as well as Class AAA Charlotte hitting coach Andy Tomberlin. The six teams in the AFL play six games per week from 10/7-11/13. LEADOFF MAN Adam Eaton is hitting.427 (38-89) in his last 23 games (since 7/10), raising his season average from.265 to.303. He is one of four AL players this season with multiple on-base streaks of 20-plus games, joining teammate Jose Abreu, Detroit s Miguel Cabrera and Oakland s Josh Donaldson. BULLPEN NEEDS RELIEF The White Sox bullpen ranks 27th in the major leagues with a 4.43 ERA (206 ER/388.0 IP). Over its last 39 games since 7/9, Sox relievers have posted a 6.31 ERA (76 ER/108.1 IP), allowing 131 hits with eight blown saves in 16 chances. Chicago s 58.7 save percentage is the third-lowest in the majors and its 19 blown saves are tied for fourth-most. PAUL KONERKO S FAREWELL SEASON Paul Konerko is playing in his 18th and fi nal season, including 16 with the White Sox agreed to a one-year contract on 12/4/13. His 16-season tenure with the White Sox is the second-longest with a current team behind the Yankees Derek Jeter (20 seasons). Ranks among the franchise leaders in virtually every offensive category is the club leader in total bases and ranks second in home runs (Frank Thomas), RBI (Thomas) and games played (Luke Appling). The White Sox captain was part of the 2005 World Series championship team, was named the ALCS MVP and is a six-time All-Star. WHITE SOX VS. CLEVELAND The White Sox lead the season series, 8-6. Phegley ranks among the IL leaders in home runs (3rd, 23), RBI (3rd, 74), slugging percentage (3rd,.546), total bases (3rd, 220), OPS (4th,.886) and runs scored (6th, 69).
