MANNERS, THOUGHTFUL MANNERS Manners, thoughtful manners, showing love to everybody everyday. Manners, thoughtful manners, being cheerful in the things I do and say. Manners, thoughtful manners, forget myself and think of those around! It s simply thinking more about the others, and that s how love is found! There are many times each day when you and I can show A little deed of kindness, everywhere we go. [Can I help you?] Remember love is noticed by the things we do and say, [Thank you so much!] So let s try a little love and help someone today! I show respect for Mom and Dad, for family members too, I say, Good morning, everyone, [Good morning, everyone!] And ask, How are you? [How are you?] I say, Goodbye to everyone when I leave each day, [Goodbye!] I find by showing love that I am happier this way! [Repeat Intro] Spoken: [Man:] Oh dear, this bus is so crowded, I won t find a place to sit down! [Girl:] Excuse me, Sir. [Man:] Yes? [Girl:] Would you like to have my seat? [Man:] Oh! Why yes, little girl What kind manners! [Girl:] Oh, you re welcome, Sir! I know that keeping clean is always part of manners too, I wash my hands before I eat and keep my hair combed too! Doing unto others as I d have them do to me [Here s a kiss for you] This is love and kindness and the loving way to be! It s simply thinking more about the others, and that s how love is found! Spoken: [Man:] -Well, this is where I get off! Thank you, little girl, you can have your seat back now! [Girl:] Oh, you re welcome, sir! Hmmm, it sure pays to be kind! Manners Poster 1
When I was just a young boy, I want to let you know, I had a nasty temper that I could not control. Someone would get me riled up with something that they said. My heart would pound like thunder as my face was turnin red. Then I d think about what my Mama would say. She said, Chorus Stay sweet, stay sweet. Before you say something that you shouldn t repeat. Don t get upset, Before you do somethin that you re gonna regret. It ain t weak to stay meek. You ll see by turnin the other cheek. It takes a mighty man in his soul to stay sweet. One day I was playing and along came one of the boys. I know it was just an accident, but he stepped on one of my toys. My heart pounded like thunder, my face was turnin red. I was just about to blow my top when I remembered what my Mama said. She said, [Repeat Chorus] Stay sweet, remember! That s better! Well, it may not be that easy, it s gonna take all that you ve got To try to be kind and gentle when your temper s inclined to be hot. So if you quench that burnin anger with a cool stream of love, You ll make more friends and you ll understand what my Mama was thinkin of When she used to say these words to me, [Repeat Chorus] STAY SWEET It takes a mighty big man in his soul to stay sweet. [Stay sweet!] Simmer down! [Don t get upset!] Don t get upset! [Stay sweet, don t get upset!] Cool your jets! [Stay sweet!] You won t regret it! Manners Poster 2

Thank You for my mouth so I can eat my food - Ummmm, it tastes so yummy, my Mommy cooks so good. I can say my please and thank you s like I know I should, Thank You for my mouth. (Thank You for my ears that You have given me, So I can hear my Mommy say, I love you - you re so sweet! And I can hear the stories that Daddy reads to me, Thank You for my ears. 5 Music by Jerry Words by Jerry and Windy We don t have a sad God, we have a happy God, We have a happy God Who wants us to be happy. We don t have a sad God, we have a happy God, We have a happy God Who wants us to be happy. We know He watches what we do and helps us to be good. He helps us to be good Because He is the Father of us all, Who loves us, big or small, He loves us, big or small. The happiness He gives to us makes others happy too, Let s share it with them too. He wants to give us Heaven here and kiss away our tears, Kiss away our tears. [Repeat first verse] He wants us to be happy. WE DON T HAVE A SAD GOD Manners Poster 4
I D LIKE TO BE INVISIBLE Oh, I d like to be invisible and spread love everywhere, To help in secret ways without you knowing I am there! I could walk into somebody s room and pick up all the clothes, I could make the bed and tidy up... no one would ever know! If I saw my brother spill his milk and while he gets the mop, I could run and get a floor rag and quickly wipe it up! Daddy comes home with the shopping bags and right before his eyes, The door opens all by itself, he d be so surprised! [Oh, my!] If I saw someone unhappy, I d be there right by their side And whisper sweetly in their ear so they d feel loved inside! But I don t have to be invisible cause I can do my best, To do these things I think about, then God will do the rest. He is always watching over us, He cares for you and me, And although I cannot see Him, His Love I feel and see! So although I m not invisible there s so much I can do, To make it very possible to show I love you! So I don t have to be invisible cause I can do my best, To do the things I think about, then God will do the rest. He is always watching over us, He cares for you and me, And although I cannot see Him, His Love I feel and see! So although I m not invisible there s so much I can do, To make it very possible to show I love you! Manners Poster 6
YOU DON T HAVE TO BE SHY Intro: You don t have to be, never, ever need to be, You don t have to be, never, ever need to be shy. Sandy stood in the corner of the schoolyard, she said for her it was really hard To go and meet new friends. I said, Sandy, you don t have to be lonely. Take my hand and come with me, I ve got a lot of nice friends. And Chorus 1 We d like to know more about you, you don t have to be shy. We understand the way you feel, but you can make friends if you try. Be friendly, and others will be friendly, too. You don t have to be shy! On the weekend, I went to meet her family. Her Dad and Mom made it easy for me. They smiled and they said Hi! Oh, I know I didn t need to act shy, so I talked a little bit even though I felt a little nervous in side. But they said: [Repeat Chorus 1] You don t have to be shy! Sandy and I went to play by the seashore. There was a kid we d never met before, Sitting there all by him self. Well, Sandy and I, at first we felt a little bit shy. We took the plunge and gave it a try, and went to introduce ourselves. We said: Chorus 2 We d like to know more about you, you don t have to be shy. We understand the way you feel, but you can make friends if you try. Be friendly and others will be friendly. Don t be shy, give it a try. Be friendly and others will be friendly, too. Manners Poster 7
WHAT ARE FRIENDS FOR What are friends for? I came over to play on this rainy day cause I m feeling a little sad. What are friends for? I can talk with you; You re the kind of friend that makes me feel glad. Bridge And when you re feeling down and in the dumps, I ll tell you a funny joke. And if you have to stay in bed with mumps, I ll send you a snack or a get-well note. What are friends for? We can share ideas, Help each other with our homework til it s done. What are friends for? They can bring such joy, Every girl and boy should have at least one. Bridge A friend is someone you know you can depend on for a helping hand. If you lose your temper, I won t hold it against you; I will try to understand. [Understand.] What are friends for? We can share the things that our friendship brings. Oh, it s really so much fun! What are friends for? They can bring such joy, Every girl and boy should have at least one. They can bring such joy to every girl and boy, Every girl and boy should have at least one. Every girl and boy should have at least one. Manners Poster 8
IN A NATURAL WAY I went to town and I bought a shake, and then I ate a piece of chocolate cake, Some sugared donuts with a can of pop, then I went over to the candy shop. I ate some licorice while I walked home, but before too long I started to moan. I had a pain in my stomach and stomach and aches in my teeth. Oh, I think I ate too many sweets! Chorus 1 I turned my radio on to a song, they were singing about being healthy and strong, To eat right, sleep right and exercise, and be energized in a natural way! I was in for a shock when I stood on the scales! My tummy blocked the view to my toenails! And when I looked in the mirror and saw my shape, I thought, Oh man, I d better lose some weight! Chorus 2 Then I heard my radio playing that song, they were singing about being healthy and strong, To eat right, sleep right and exercise, and be energized in a natural way! They said to drink lots of water throughout the day, to keep my body working in the proper way. And when I feel like eating something sweet, it s so much better to have fruit to eat. Radio song Carbohydrates, proteins, oils and fats, keep you going and growing that s a fact! Vegetables and fruits are a vitamin treat, they ll protect you so you won t be weak. Chorus 3 I heard my radio playing that song, they were singing about being healthy and strong, To eat right, sleep right and exercise, and be energized in a natural way! [Way! Ooh, ooh, ooh!] I don t mind an occasional burger n fries, and I ll have a little ice cream once in a while; But a balanced diet keeps me in shape, and now my body s feeling really great! Oh... Chorus 4 I hear my radio playing that song, yeah, they re singing about being healthy and strong, To eat right, sleep right and exercise, and be energized in a natural way! [Eat right, sleep right] and exercise, And be energized in a natural way! Manners Poster 9
BE A HAPPY HELPER Peeling the potatoes, shining up the shoes, You can be so happy in the things you do. Cleaning a toilet, washing the clothes, Please go get a Kleenex to wipe the baby s nose. Changing a diaper, giving baby a bath, Helping someone smile, helping someone laugh. Picking up the paper, sweeping the floor, This is just a little list, there is so much more to... Be a happy helper, show a sample of, A sample of real love. Oh, be a happy helper, Show a sample of real love. Taking time to listen, learning how to share, Loving up the lonely, showing them you care. Be a happy helper in all you do and say, Happiness is waiting to be your friend today. So... Oh... Show a sample of real love! Manners Poster 10
WHERE WOULD WE BE WITHOUT LOVE? Where would we be, where would we be, Where would we be, where would we be without love? Where would we be without the stars in the sky? Where would we be without the birds that fly? Where would we be, where would we be without love? Where would we be without the spring time showers? Where would we be without the bees and the fiowers? Where would we be, where would we be without love? Bridge: Where would we be without the deep blue ocean? Where would we be without love and emotion? Where would we be, where would we be, Where would we be without love? There d be no way to sing happily [Where would we be?], There d be no fun or friends or family. [Where would we be?] Where would we be, where would we be without love? Where would we be without a way we could give it? Where would we be without someone we could share it with? Where would we be, where would we be without love? [Repeat bridge] There d be no way to sing happily, There d be no fun or friends or family. Where would we be, where would we be without love? [Repeat fourth verse] [Where would we be?] Without love? [Where would we be] without the stars? [Where would we be] without the birds that fly? [Where would we be] without the showers in the spring-time? [Where would we be] without the sunshine? [Where would we be] without a family? [Where would we be] without love? Manners Poster 11
LET S TRY TO BE LOVING Let s try to be loving, cheerful and polite. Sweet and thoughtful boys and girls are everyone s delight! Let s try to remember how we re supposed to be, Good manners are a way of showing love and courtesy! When I m introduced to someone, I know what to do: I look into their eyes and smile and say, How do you do? Sitting at the table, I must be clean and neat, I say my please and thank you s, and am quiet when I eat! Good morning is the way to start out a brand new day, And I will say, I m sorry if I make a mistake. I ll say, I beg your pardon if I don t hear things quite right, And when the evening comes I know it s time to say, Goodnight! Let s try to be loving. Let s try to be loving. Let s try to be loving. 14 TRY IT, YOU JUST MIGHT LIKE IT Try it, you just might like it, Try it, oh you really should. Try it, you just might like it, Try it, it just might be good. We had some food the other night, It looked like who knows what! I told my Mommy, if I could I d really rather not. She looked at me and smiled before She said these words to me. She told me if I give it a try, So big and strong I ll be... Now I love spinach! So... I saw my friend the other day, She looked so down and sad, She had a frown upon her face Like everything was bad. I walked on over to my friend, I said, How do you do? She looked at me with a great big grin When I said, Smile, God loves you, And cares for you! So... [Repeat chorus twice] Manners Poster 14
We can get along. Yes, we can get along. WE CAN GET ALONG There s a boy I know and he really talks loud, You can hear his every word above a crowd. He doesn t need a microphone, his voice is like a megaphone, But I m his friend and he s a friend of mine. And there s a girl in my school, she hardly ever talks, She does a little waddle when she walks. She often likes to be alone, reading books and staying home, But I m her friend and she s a friend of mine. Chorus 1 We re all different in so many ways, different shapes and sizes and traits. We re not perfect and we make mistakes, but we can learn to get along. Love and understanding are what it takes, so that we can get along. There s a boy on my team who s always missing the ball, When he runs he often stumbles and falls. He may not have coordination, but without a hesitation I m his friend and he s a friend of mine. My next door neighbor is a new kid in town, He doesn t seem to know his way around. He was born in a foreign land, his accent s hard to understand, But I m his friend and he s a friend of mine. Chorus 2 We re all different in so many ways, different shapes and sizes and traits. We re not perfect and we make mistakes, but we can learn to get along. Love and understanding are what it takes, so that we can get along. Love and understanding are what it takes, so that we can get along. We can get along. [Yes! We get a long.] Yes, we can get along. 16 HELPFUL HABITS I ll remember to wash up before I eat. I ll try to keep my bedroom nice and neat. Put my clothes back on the shelf, clean up after my self, And always sit up straight in my seat. Chorus 1 These helpful habits I am trying to learn, To do my part around the house to show concern. At first it s difficult, I ll take em one day at a time. After dinner I ll tell Mom, It was delicious! And then I ll help to wash the dirty dishes. I ll sweep the kitchen floor, and do my other chores; And Mom says, Thank you, with hugs and kisses. Chorus 2 These helpful habits I am trying to learn, To do my part around the house to show concern. It s getting easier, I ll take em one day at a time. [One day at a time!] Helpful Habits! Helpful Habits! Helpful Habits! Yeah! I ll be considerate in what I say and do, And remember to say Please and Thank you. When I m asked a question, I ll give my full attention, And give a smile when introduced. Chorus 3 These helpful habits I am trying to learn, to do my part to show I care and I m concerned. These helpful habits are now easy to do, just keep on tryin, you can learn em too. Chorus 4 These helpful habits I am trying to learn, To do my part to show I care and I m concerned. These helpful habits are now easy to do, just keep on trying, you can learn em too. These helpful habits, just take em one day at a time. [Oooo, take, take em, one day at a time.] These helpful habits, just take em one day at a time. Manners Poster 16
Did I remember To thank You for the World so sweet? Did I remember To thank You for the food we eat? Did I remember To thank You for the birds that sing? Did I remember To thank You God for everything? DID I REMEMBER So many things are happening each day, I always take time to laugh and sing and play. Sometimes I forget how much You ve given me, All the things that I enjoy You gave to me for free. So... Lord help me to be sure to thank You for the light The darkness goes away when the sun shines bright. I do appreciate the beauty that I see, And the song that s in my heart I give You joyfully. So... Did I remember To thank You for the World so sweet? Did I remember To thank You for the food we eat? Did I remember To thank You for the birds that sing? Did I remember To thank You God for everything? [Repeat] Did I remember To thank You God for everything? Manners Poster 17
KEEP CLEAN My name is Jean, I like to clean, keeping things clean as can be, And here s a song I always sing that helps me to remember what to clean: Wash my face, ears and feet, wash my hands before I eat. After meals brush my teeth, clean the room and keep it neat. Soap and water, air and sun, keep things clean for everyone. Oh, how nice it feels to keep clean. My name is Dean and I like Jean, and that is why I try to keep all clean, And here s a song I always sing that helps me to remember what to clean: And I like Dean so I keep clean and this is what he always says to me: You smell so nice, how about me? Hmmm! You smell so fresh and clean. So let s wash our feet, ears and feet, wash our hands before we eat. After meals brush our teeth, clean the room and keep it neat. Soap and water, air and sun, keep things clean for everyone. Oh, how nice it feels to keep clean. Let s wash our face, ears and feet, wash your hands before we eat. Wouldn t it be real sweet [Johnny:] Yes, Ma am! If you would obey her right away [Johnny:] Coming! And be on time for supper by coming in from play! Little jobs are things we need to do, Don t leave until you re sure that you are through. When the job is finished you ll feel good And others will be happy that you did it like you should. The quicker you begin, the quicker you will win. Do it now! [Right now!] Do it now! [Come to eat!] Do it now! [Right now!] Do it now! [Time for sleep!] Do it now! [Right now!] Do it now! [Right now!] Do it now! Manners Poster 19
