1 S.V.P.D s Traffic Unit Parking Enforcement The Simi Valley Police Department s Traffic Unit employs Police Service Assistants who are responsible for parking enforcement and a variety of other issues. They also assist the public and police officers.

3 Vehicle Abatement Program a S.V.M.C. Parking a vehicle on an unpaved surface is prohibited. Vehicles must be on concrete or asphalt. Trailers must be stored on a dust-free surface. Pavers or gravel are acceptable.

4 Vehicle Abatement Program b S.V.M.C. Displaying an inoperative, wrecked or dismantled vehicle, or a vehicle that appears to be in such condition, in public view is prohibited. Flat tires, excessive debris, and storage of trash/junk inside or around the vehicle are common indicators a vehicle is inoperative.

5 Oversize Vehicle Program a S.V.M.C. No vehicle or combination of vehicles, exceeding 23 long, 7 wide or 8 tall is permitted to park on the highway. Up to 48 hours is permitted for pre/post out-of-town of-town trip preparations. Day to day parking is prohibited. Out-of-town town visitors are allowed a 10 day permit, renewable 6 times every year, but no more than 30 consecutive days.

10 Unregistered Vehicles All vehicles must be currently registered with the California Dept. of Motor Vehicles. Vehicles that no longer run, or can t be registered for smog issues, etc., should be registered as PNO (Planned Non-Operative). Registration fees for this are minimal. A vehicle with a PNO status is not currently registered and cannot be parked on the street. PNO vehicles must be parked on private property and based on their appearance, out of public view. PNO vehicles found parked on the city street or being driven on the highway forfeit their PNO status and may be towed. A citation for expired registration can also be issued.

11 Parking Related Complaints Complaints concerning current parking violations (i.e. parking in a fire lane, disabled space, blocking the sidewalk, etc.), should be called in directly to the Dispatch Center at (805) Vehicles that violate the Oversized Vehicle Program, Vehicle Abatement Program or involve a vehicle that appears abandoned, should be called in to the Traffic Unit at (805) These complaints are documented, and processed for a field examination, citing and/or towing.

12 Contact Information We encourage the public to call when they notice a violation. The Police Service Assistants will respond to all complaints received. It is not necessary to leave your name, though contact phone numbers make it easier to obtain the information that might help speed up the process. All reporting parties private information is kept confidential. 13 Warning Notices Warning notices are not citations. They are used to inform you of a condition that exists that warrants a citation. These warning notices will advise you of the violation and will allow you a specific time period to remedy the problem. After the warning is issued, if the condition is not corrected, a cite and/or tow may result. If there are extenuating circumstances that prevent you from prompt compliance, please contact the Traffic Unit at (805)

14 Contesting a Parking Citation If you received a parking citation on your vehicle or in the mail, you may contest the citation. Obtain the required Administrative Review Form from City Hall. You must pay, or request the Administrative Review Form within 21 days of the citation date. Unpaid citations will result in late penalties. Delinquent citations will be submitted to DMV and/or a collection agency, and may affect your vehicle registration (4760,4763V.C.). 15 Contesting a Vehicle Storage If your vehicle was towed and you feel you were not in violation, you may request a Post Storage Hearing (22852 V.C.). The owner must request a hearing within 10 days from the date of the storage. Vehicles stored by authority of 22669V.C. with a value of $300 or less are not subject to this process. To request a hearing, contact the Traffic Unit at (805) Towing and other administrative costs are the responsibility of the registered/legal owner, pending the outcome of the Post Storage Hearing.
