2 INTRODUCTION BORDERPLEX CERTIFIED Welcome to the Workforce Solutions Borderplex Youth Program! Before you get started please read our youth program guide which explains everything you need to know about the program. Funding is limited and comes through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). Services we offer include: GED or High School Equivalency Alternative Secondary School Services Tutoring, Study Skills Training, and Instruction Career Counseling Leadership Skills Development Job Skills Training Employment Opportunities and Work Based Learning Summer Work INTERNSHIP PROGRAM Get paid this summer and intern at a local business related to your interest. The Summer Work Internship Program provides youth up to six weeks of paid work experience. All of our youth who participate in the program will be considered "Borderplex Certified" which means, youth have a strong understanding of what it takes to navigate workplace environments and can comprehend industry and career opportunities. Through innovative initiatives, youth will learn to explore careers in depth. Initiatives consist of STEAM exploration; health industry certifications, summer jobs and work experience for youth with disabilities. Below are a few key youth initiatives we currently offer: BREAKING BARRIERS If you are a youth with a disability and want to get work experience then Breaking Barriers is the initiative for you. We have a wide range of employers who offer summer work experience where you can work and get paid to learn. HEALTH CARE CERTIFICATION PROGRAM Are you currently attending school in the healthcare related field? We can assist you with obtaining your certification. Contact us to learn more on how we can reimburse you for your exam fees while you are attending school. STEAM Fiesta Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math STEM Fiesta provide high school and middle school students the opportunity to compete and explore opportunities in STEAM careers. This project base learning initiative begins during the school year and is open to all schools from the Borderplex Region.

3 ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS In order to qualify for Workforce Solutions Borderplex Youth Program youth must be either one of the following: School dropout Struggling in school Behind grade level Pregnant or parenting Individual with a disability Homeless or runaway Foster youth HOW DO YOU QUALIFY Once determined eligible for Workforce Solutions Borderplex Youth Program, Youth must begin the qualification process. A resident in the Brewster, Culberson, El Paso, Hudspeth, Jeff Davis or Presidio County Are you between the ages 16 24? Are you a U.S. Citizen or a non citizen authorized to work in the United States? If you are male aged 18+, are you registered for Military Selective Service? Do you receive any government assistance? (Food Stamps, TANF, etc.) Do you meet the income eligible guidelines? Family size includes parents and all children in the household Family Size Family Income Guidelines: Family of 1... 5 Summer Work INTERNSHIP PROGRAM Hire El Paso s Youth is a summer youth program designed to put youth to work, providing first time job experience that will set them on the path to be workforce ready. Workforce Solutions Borderplex (WSB) is committed to finding 200 summer jobs for young people ages who live in the County of El Paso. HOW WE CAN HELP Complete an Employer Internship Sponsorship form at: form.jotform.com/workforceborderplex/sy2016 or call Contribute to the initiative by directly hiring a youth 2. Participate in this year s Reverse Job Fair (June 8, 2016) and meet youth who ready to work 3. Sponsor an intern to help give work experience that aligns career pathways through one of the sponsorship packages below: a. $625 for a 120 hour internship b. $1225 for a 240 hour internship c. $1625 for a 320 hour internship PROGRAM VALUE 1. Receive a contribution acknowledgement form from WSB a 501 c3 organization 2. No risk environment: WSB is the employer of record, we cover worker s compensation and fringe benefits and issue bi weekly pay checks. 3. Change a Life: Engaging youth in positive activities during the summer and mentor youth by providing leadership skills 4. Invest and develop long term employment opportunities for El Paso s future workforce WHO RECRUITS YOUTH Young people are recruited through WSB. In preparation for job placement, youth attend a job preparation class which gives them job ready skills. Participants also receive financial literacy training and workplace etiquette tips. Youth are Borderplex Certified and are assigned a career navigator to help them along their journey.
