10 DIGITISING EUROPEAN INDUSTRY European Cloud Initiative Data as a key driver of Open Science and the 4 th industrial revolution But data remains underexploited and Europe is lagging behind in terms of data infrastructures and technologies Data as a key driver of Open Science and the 4 th industrial revolution The EU Cloud initiative An Open Science Cloud for storage, management, analysis and re-use of research data across borders and scientific disciplines A trusted and world-class Data Infrastructure including HPC accessed via the Cloud Widening access and building trust by opening the infrastructure to industry (SMEs) and public sector (e.g. smart cities). But data remains underexploited and Europe is lagging behind in terms of data infrastructures and technologies For being attractive for the private sector centres must fulfil industrial requirements!

Out of which 340 industrial: 75% SMEs and mid caps, 50% users, 65% new in EU R&I Programmes 29 Members States and Ass. 24 HPC-Cloud ecosystem in the Digitising European Industry Strategy First reflections on how to develop the PRACE infrastructure further to serve industrial innovation across all sectors and become the HPC backbone for Digitising European Industry Starting point: PRACE centres including SHAPE and HPC CoEs I4MS, national/regional infrastructures Next steps (Now, H2020 WP , and beyond): Make available technology and resources to industry (CoE, ) fulfil industrial needs: security, one-stop-shop, pay per use, Develop a catalogue of digital competences focus HPC competence centres on their excellence collaborate with other centres to complement expertise become the HPC and HPDA backbone for Digitising European Industry Stimulate national and regional investments (incl. ESIF and EFSI) EU to concentrate on the "glue" between EU/natl/reg. initiatives exchange best practice, support x-border networking and experiments coordinate the SHAPE programme with similar initiatives like i4ms
