1 ETC Release Note Congo Lighting Control System Software Product Line: D escr iption: Congo Lighting Control System Version software Engi n eer i ng Cha nge Mast e r (ECM ) : / Effective Date: Purpose The purpose of this release is to implement new features, fixture updates and correct issues noted in previous releases. This release delivers enhanced reliability and improved stability. For any questions relating to the contents of this release or the behavior of this software, please contact ETC Technical Services at the office nearest you. A list of ETC offices is given at the bottom of this page. Availability You may obtain this release of software by downloading it from the Downloads section of the ETC Web site Once downloaded, the installer must be placed on a USB flash drive with enough space (approximately 54 MB). Documentation Congo Lighting Control System Software Components Congo Facepanel Software The current version of the user manual for Congo is v5.0. The online help system within Congo, Congo jr, Congo Client and Congo Offline Editor has been updated with new content for the v5.1 release. New items are prefaced with "v5.1" in the table of contents. ETC manuals can be downloaded free of charge from ETC's website at They are available in portable document format (pdf), and viewable with the free Adobe Acrobat Reader v7.x and later. Congo v5.1.0 is incompatible with hardware and software running ETCNet1 Key Enhancements in v5.1.0 System Improvements: "Save Copy to USB" added to browser. Support of CEM+ Error Messaging via ACN (requires appropriate CEM+ software version) Default Attribute Recording Mode now set to ACTIVE in a new play. When set to ACTIVE, the UPDATE & ATTRIB track-edit option will be enabled by default. Transferring shows to the Backup now updates the A field (GOTO A instead of JUMP TO B). Track List now has minimum column widths to improve level display while editing. Improvements to the import of Obsession, Expert and Light Palette show files. Keyboard shortcuts: Alt-1 through Alt-0 on the top row of the keyboard now activate the first 10 flash keys. Gel Picker now displays focused color in lower left corner and supports Selador X7 fixture using the Standard Library template. Changing the Master Mode with Auto-Update Master Page enabled no longer changes GRP content. Translation now works in all popups. Improved refresh rates for the Congo masters display after using the internal alpha keyboard. Clients now show correct data in tabs when a new play is opened on the server. Remote Controls: Support for the Net3 Radio Focus Remote over Ethernet and multiple base stations, handhelds connected to the same system. Remote Control List and field tabs for visibility of what is controlled by each remote, and ability to disable/enable any or all remotes. Remotes and recording from remotes are now enabled by default in a new play. AT Mode now supported in remote controls. RFR Improvements: Improved patching and scroller calibration. Please see the Congo Help System for details on RFR operation. RFR will display "Remote Disabled" if it has been disabled at the console. Console will display "Remote" in gray when remotes are enabled but not currently contributing to the output, and in white when levels are coming from remote fields. 3 Effect improvements: TapRate parameter added to Chase Effect Playbacks. # EFFECT & Master Key now directly loads effect playback to a Master. EFFECT & ALL or ALL & EFFECT selects all active effect playbacks. ALL will no longer include effect playbacks when used alone. Effect playbacks removed from C & HOME command. A new command, HOME & EFFECT, will home only effect channels. EFFECT & CH selects channels affected by active effect playbacks. Inserting effect playbacks will no longer clear changed flags. The Effect Dock is now opens automatically on screen #1 in a new play. It is now possible to fade out a content effect and replace parameter values for affected channels in the same step using parameter delay times. Inserting new templates no longer changes effect types. Action Macro Enhancements: New and changed commands: GO PB, GO Mx, START Mx, PAUSE MX and PAUSE PB. NOTE: Action Macros have been changed so that GO Mx controls a Master Playback in the same way that GO PB works. Old GO Mx functionality is now START Mx. Existing shows using these action macros will need to be edited to reflect this change. Consult the Congo Help System for further details on Action Macro changes. CongoSettings Enhancements: Changing locale settings is now possible. Order of items on Network tab has been rearranged. RFR settings have been added. Installation Instructions Notes About Updating Your Console Congo Console Video Issue It is possible for older Congo consoles to experience a video settings problem immediately after using the full disk image for v If you reimage an older Congo console and find afterwards that only one monitor is working, please power that console down and restart it. The video problem should clear itself after rebooting. Net3 Services Issue A portion of the Net3 Services is not included with the Congo v5.1.0 Image. If an older console is reimaged and Net3 Services are required, please download the installer from the ETC Web site (directions for finding the installer are given below) and run the installer on your Congo console after completing the reimaging process. The Net3 Services Installer can be downloaded from the ETC Web site by using the Downloads search function. Enter "Net3" in the keyword cell and change the Download Type cell to "Software". Leave all other cells unchanged. Execute the search and the Net3 Services Installer will be one of the available downloads listed at the bottom of the page. Congo/Congo jr Console, Congo Light Server and Net3 RVI running v5.0.0 or newer: Step 1: Step 2: Step 3: Step 4: Download the Congo510.zip file from the Services section of Unzip the software and place the file on your USB flash drive in a folder named SOFTWARE. It is no longer required to rename the software. Connect the USB memory stick to the console. Start the console and arrow over to the System Settings option and press MODIFY. Congo Facepanel Firmware update Instructions A new version of Congo console facepanel firmware is available with this release. This version includes English, German and French keyboards on the Master keys. It is recommended that users with Congo consoles (not Congo jr or Light Servers) update their facepanel firmware. Required Files Before starting the firmware update procedure, make sure the following files are located on a USB memory stick Firmware_Downloader.exe Congo_Face_Panel_ SRC This application actually downloads the firmware This is the actual firmware file. Wait until "CONGO" logo disappears from the ML screen and gets replaced with a "entering diagnostics mode", or the diagnostics mode itself appears. 7 Upload Preparation In order to prepare the console for the firmware download, a windows file explorer session has to be started: Step 6: At the Congo startup screen, press CTRL-ALT-DEL on the external keyboard. Step 7: Click on the Task Manager button. Step 8: In the File menu, click New Task (Run)... Then type "explorer" into the dialog box that opens. Click OK. Step 9: Click the "My Computer" option on the left side of the explorer window, then doubleclick the USB Memory stick (usually drive E:). Firmware upload Step 10: Step 11: Step 12: Step 13: Press the "?" button on the face panel repeatedly to step through the diagnostic tests until the message "Update Firmware [NO]" appears. Press the "Setup" button in order to change [ NO] to [YES]. Press the "?" button again in order to accept this. Start the Firmware_Downloader.exe application. Caution: This application has to be started within 30 seconds after the completion of the above step. In the upload application a status line will be visible. Wait until the USB connection is established. This might take up to 30 seconds. After successful connection, the "file" button will be enabled. Select the correct version of the *.src file, and press the download button. After successful completion of the download process, the board should boot straight to its normal operation, any further action is not required. Caution: Do not turn off power to the console during the above operation. If power is lost in the middle of firmware upload, it is usually possible to re-start the upload from step 4 again. If this is not possible for some reason, the board has to be sent back to ETC for service. If the firmware upload is initiated by accident, simply wait for a couple of minutes. The old firmware will still be present if the actual download process hasn't been started. Please contact ETC Technical Services With Channels Only mode active at startup, Congo/jr starts in Ch Only but displays as if in Masters Mode. Workaround: Start in Masters Mode and then switch to Channels Only Pressing an independent switch with another independent switch latches the first switch on and does not trigger the second independent. Workaround: Press independent switches one at a time to avoid this behavior. Press the first independent switch again to toggle it off Renamed channels appear in Park list using the patched channel number not the Name Congo Console as backup to Light Server with "Bypass Startup Screen" enabled causes crash Workaround: Do not use "Bypass Startup Screen" when using a Congo console as a backup to a Light Server Returning to On from Freeze sometimes causes channels to turn on 1793 Fade w/ Intensity does not work for 16bit RGB Attributes Workaround: Control 16-bit RGB without the Fade With Intensity function flagged in the template In some situations, Backup consoles can spontaneously activate and take control of the system 1188 Capture & CH takes level from A not from Live, moving the wheel causes levels to jump. Workaround: Manually apply current intensity level to captured channels before moving wheel if high level is coming from a Master Congo JR display occasionally goes blank 1104 Independent Fade knobs on client do not open in the editor [Setup]+Fader Knob 1102 Devices using the Fade-With-Intensity feature, such as RGB LED fixtures, will respond correctly to the Grand Master and Intensity wheel, but will not be affected by the Blackout switch Using the REFRESH & CH syntax with selected channels will clear the changed flags from all channels, not just the selected channels Capture always captures intensity levels from A field, not levels generated by master playbacks LEDs on master keys on clients do not update when new content is recorded on server Congo jr as a client will not offer built-in alpha-numeric keyboard Congo jr Dynamic Effects encoders do not display labels for Offset and Delay Relationship, however turning the encoder with the wheel key engaged applies these settings.
