Links for live scores and video feed: Series: WVU leads NCSU, Meet Minutes: The West Virginia University gymnastics team (1-3) opens its 2014 home season at the WVU Coliseum on Sunday, Jan. 26, against NC State (2-3, 2-1 EAGL), at 3 p.m. The meet is a Dollar Day, with all tickets, hot dogs, popcorn and Coca-Colas available for $1 each. Additionally, it is the offi cial Coliseum debut for seven Mountaineers - sophomore transfer Lindsey Litten (Central Michigan) and freshmen Brooklyn Doggette, Alexa Goldberg, Emma Lasker, Mackenzie Myers, Rachel Sine and Nicolette Swoboda. West Virginia vs. NC State: For the second straight week, the Mountaineers will go toe-to-toe with a former East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) foe. A heated rivalry has developed between the squads recently, and as such, they have evenly split their last eight meetings, with each team earning four wins. The squads have met four times since 2011, and each team has scored two wins. Most recently, the Wolfpack earned a narrow victory in Raleigh, N.C., on Jan. 25, WVU owns a all-time series advantage. The Last Meeting: WVU earned a then-season-high score but ultimately fell short at No. 24 NC State, losing on Jan. 25, 2013, inside Reynolds Coliseum, in Raleigh, N.C. The Mountaineers overcame an early three-tenths defi cit and jumped out to a lead going into the fourth roation, but the Wolfpack s fl oor score overshadowed WVU s beam mark and gave the home team the win. Hope Sloanhoffer fi nished second (39.0) overall. Erica Smith and Kaylyn Millick won bars with scores, while Jaida Lawrence scored on vault for the victory. Millick also won fl oor with a score. The Last Meeting in Morgantown: WVU opened its 2010 home season with a win over No. 23 NC State on Jan. 24, at the WVU Coliseum. Both teams also earned wins over Maryland (193.0) and George Washington (188.65). Amy Bieski placed in the top three on each event, including a victory on bars (9.775), and fi nished fi rst overall with a score. Chelsi Tabor tallied on vault for the event win. A Look at NC State: The Wolfpack scored a season-high in their 2014 home opener on Jan. 17, defeating North Carolina (192.45) and Towson ( ) and falling to No. 8 Michigan (196.8). NCSU shone brightest on beam, scoring 49.35, its seventh-best score in program history. Sophomore Brittni Watkins won the event with a 9.9. She also fi nished second overall with a score. The Wolfpack return home for a tri-meet against Texas Woman s University and William & Mary on Jan. 24 before traveling to Morgantown. Most recently, NCSU suffered a loss at Kent State on Jan. 19. Noteworthy: Senior Hope Sloanhoffer shows 1, career points and continues to rank No. 18 in the Mountaineer record book... she needs to tie Jessica Bartgis ( ) at No. 17 (1, )... Sloanhoffer has competed as an all-arounder in 28 career meets and ranks No. 17 all-time... with 18 career scores to her name, Sloanhoffer is tied with Jessica Bartgis ( ) at No. 4 on the Mountaineers all-time chart... Sloanhoffer and sophomore Jaida Lawrence are tied at No. 9 with four career 9.9+ vault scores... 4 2014 WVU GYMNASTICS Meet 3 West Virginia vs. NC State Event-by-Event Breakdown Vault Highlights Jaida Lawrence opened 2014 with an event win, as she scored 9.85 at No. 21 Kentucky and won vault outright; she competed a flawless yurchenko layout full and earned a 9.9 from one judge. Hope Sloanhoffer finished fourth with a 9.75 mark. Sloanhoffer scored at Maryland for the event win; it was her highest score since tallying 9.9 at the 2012 EAGL Championship. Nicolette Swoboda scored a career-best 9.825, good enough for third. Uneven Bars Highlights. The Mountaineers won the uneven bars at No. 21 Kentucky, scoring 48.95; the total would have been the team s second-highest score in Alexa Goldberg won the event outright with a mark, the ninth-best score in program history and the highest point total earned by a Mountaineer since Hope Sloanhoffer fi nished second with 9.85 points. Goldberg earned her second straight event win with a score at Maryland, while Smith hit for 9.8 in consecutive weeks and placed second. Balance Beam Highlights WVU opened 2014 on beam at No. 21 Kentucky and hit six-for-six. Lia Salzano paced the team and fi nished fourth overall with a score. Floor Exercise Highlights Melissa Idell opened the Mountaineers fl oor lineup at No. 21 Kentucky with a career-best 9.8 mark, the meet s second-highest score, and fi nished fi fth overall. Regionally, Goldberg ranks No. 3 in the Southeast on bars. She is joined on the list by Hope Sloanhoffer and Erica Smith, as the duo ranks No. 10 (9.813 avg.) and No. 12 (9.8 avg.), respectively. Sloanhoffer and Jaida Lawrence rank a team-best No. 11 (9.813 avg.) on vault, and Nicolette Swoboda follows at No. 20 (9.762 avg.). Lia Salzano continues to pace the team on beam and ranks No. 17 (9.7 avg.), while Swoboda ranks No. 19 (9.633 avg.) and Smith is No. 22 (9.625 avg.). Alexa Goldberg won bars outright in her career debut with a score, the ninth-best mark in program history and the highest Mountaineer bars point total since Hope Sloanhoffer fi nished second with a 9.85 score, while Erica Smith swung to fourth with a 9.8 point total. Sloanhoffer s Last Stand: Senior Hope Sloanhoffer is expected to conclude her career near the top of many Mountaineer all-time lists. 6 2014 WVU GYMNASTICS Meet 3 West Virginia vs. NC State Back for Big 12 Seconds: The WVU gymnastics team returns to the gym in 2014 for its second season in the Big 12 Conference. The Mountaineers will take to the road in February for their fi rst-ever Big 12 regular-season meet away from the WVU Coliseum, as the squad will meet Iowa State in Ames, Iowa, on Feb. 7. The team will then face Oklahoma, the 2013 NCAA National Championships runners-up and two-time defending conference champions, Michigan and Alabama at The Perfect 10 Challenge on Feb. 21, at Cox Arena, in Oklahoma City. The meet features three top-seven teams, as the Crimson Tide, the 2011 and 2012 national champions, fi nished third at last year s championships, and the Wolverines placed seventh. The gymnasts will compete on podium, the fi rst time any current Mountaineer has competed on podium at the collegiate level. The Mountaineers are 1-3 all-time in Big 12 action, earning their fi rst victory on Feb. 10, 2013, a win over Iowa State at the WVU Coliseum. Road Warriors: The Mountaineers 2014 road slate will challenge the team, as the squad will face eight teams ranked in the 2014 GymInfo Preseason Poll. The team opened its season at No. 21 Kentucky with No. 15 Penn State and Ball State, then traveled to No. 24 Maryland on Jan. 17. Following The Perfect 10 Challenge on Feb. 21 against No. 2 Alabama, No. 3 Oklahoma and No. 7 Michigan, and a home meet against No. 19 Ohio State on March 2, the Mountaineers will travel to Gainesville, Fla., for a dual meet against the defending national champion and No. 1-ranked Florida Gators on March 7. WVU will conclude its road schedule back in College Park, Md., against the Terrapins on March 16. Follow the Leaders: Four seniors return to lead the Mountaineers in 2014: Amanda Carpenter, Hope Sloanhoffer, Erica Smith and Bethany Yurko. Third-year coach Jason Butts does not name team captains. Fresh Skills: Seven newcomers join the Mountaineers this season - sophomore transfer Lindsey Litten (Central Michigan), and freshmen Brooklyn Doggette, Alexa Goldberg, Emma Lasker, Mackenzie Myers, Rachel Sine and Nicolette Swoboda. Goldberg and Swoboda have potential to see time on all four events, while Litten should provide needed depth to the uneven bars lineup. Additionally, Lasker will push for a spot on the vault lineup, and Myers will push on floor. Big 12 s Best Invade Morgantown: Though the Mountaineers will not play host to a Big 12 Conference regular-season meet, WVU will welcome both league opponents to Morgantown, as the 2014 Big 12 Gymnastics Championship is set for Saturday, March 22, at 4 p.m., at the WVU Coliseum. It marks the fi rst time a Big 12 Conference Championship will be held on the WVU campus. Be Our Guest!: The Mountaineers will play host to the annual Beauty and the Beast meet on Friday, Feb. 14, at 6 p.m., at the WVU Coliseum. The WVU gymnastics team will compete against former East Atlantic Gymnastics League foe Pitt, while the wrestling team will compete against Clarion simultaneously. A crowd of 2,522 fans, the sixth-best attendance mark in program history, saw the Mountaineers defeat Iowa State, , at last year s Beauty and the Beast. Diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on March 31, 2013, Krista Mae has made many trips to Morgantown over the last year, as she continues to receive treatment and care at the WVU Children s Hospital. Krista Mae will join the Mountaineers at their home meets this season at the WVU Coliseum. We are excited to welcome Krista Mae to the Mountaineer family, said coach Jason Butts. Krista Mae brightens Cary Gym every time she comes in for practice, and her smiles and enthusiasm are infectious. We re happy that she and her family will be with us for our journey through the 2014 season, and we hope they know that we will always be here for them.
