2 Chemical and Pharmaceutical Engineering Programme in Chemical and Pharmaceutical Engineering The master s programme in Chemical and Pharmaceutical Engineering offers an interdisciplinary curriculum at the intersection between the natural sciences chemistry and pharmacy and the engineering science chemical and process engineering. A fundamental understanding of engineering and associated skills is provided, enabling students to carry out high-quality research and to develop innovative systems based on scientific principles. Within the master s programme students have the opportunity to specialize either in chemical or pharmaceutical engineering. Intelligent pharmaceutical products can be tailored to the age, gender and lifestyle of individual patient. Modern drugs will be produced and delivered in a personalized way, revolutionizing medical care. In this context, shorter development times and reduced production costs are critically needed, which is addressed by the field of pharmaceutical engineering. Also the future chemical industry requires cleaner, highly sustainable and more economical chemical processes, which is addressed by the field of chemical engineering. 3 Technical Chemistry Programme in Technical Chemistry The master s programme Technical Chemistry combines the knowledge of molecular science applied chemistry, and technology. Particular topics are renewable resources, energy storage/transformation, food technology, and polymer science. Lunghammer TU Graz The Master in Technical Chemistry offers an ideal combination of research, development, and application. Technical chemists are able to contribute to the research areas of synthesis, analytics, characterization, and processing. However, opportunities for the graduates of the master s programme Technical Chemistry comprise a wide range including challenging topics in industry, environmental protection, development of innovative materials, drug discovery, or governmental tasks. Technical chemists also contribute in the areas of waste management, containment of contaminants, urban water management, plastics and climate engineering to recycling. The continuing development of conductors and semiconductors pushes the limits of energy storage and transformation and leads to innovations in computing. Improving construction materials and providing challenging solutions in architecture and construction industry are just a few of the unlimited number of challenges, which can be met by technical chemists. info-tc@nawigraz.at COURSES Semester with ECTS I II III IV Compulsory subjects Catalogue of elective courses/ Restricted elective courses Optional course/optional elective courses Master Thesis Sum COMPULSORY COURSES TYPE ECTS Advanced Electrochemistry VO 3 Introduction to Solid State Chemistry VO 3 Physical Chemistry for Technical Chemists VO 2 Environmental Chemistry and Technology VO 4 Renewable Resources Chemistry and Technology VO 2 Materials and Materials Technologies I VO 3 Materials Science I - An Introduction VO 3 Laboratory Course Technical Chemistry I LU 5 Applied Catalysis VO 3 Energy Storage and Conversion VO 2 Materials and Materials Technologies II VO 3 Materials Science II Characterisation and Testing VO 3 Laboratory Course Technical Chemistry II LU 5 Advanced Chemical Engineering VU 4 Materials and Food Technologies VO 2 Seminar for Master Thesis SE 2 SEMESTER 1 SEM. 2 S. 3 4 (VO): lectures (VU): lectures with integrated exercises (UE): exercises (KU): design exercises (LU): laboratory courses (PR): projects (SE): seminars (SP): seminar/projects (EX): excursions ELECTIVE/RESTRICTED ELECTIVE COURSES Elective Course Advanced Technical Chemistry Courses from the three catalogues of elective courses Renewable Resources Macromolecular Chemistry and Technology Inorganic Materials and Electrochemistry with a workload of 19 ECTS are to be completed. Five Fields of Expertise leave behind them the unmistakable mark of the university. Approximately 12.0 students currently benefit of the university s courses in science and engineering, spread in seven faculties and over 100 institutes. Each year, some alumni find excellent career perspectives. The strong network of TU Graz with business, industry and other research institutions leads to successful cooperations. Current emphasis of TU Graz: pushing the internationalization. Welcome Center The WELCOME CENTER of Graz University of Technology is the central advisory and service department for international students (but not exchange students) prior to, during and after their stay. The service includes expert advice and support with particular regard to matters such as looking for accommodation, law relating to aliens, authorities, networking and integration, as well as general questions about living in Austria. The Welcome Center acts as an interface between university facilities (e.g. Registration Office, Office of International Relations and Mobility Programmes, Students Union of Graz University of Technology) and external offices (e.g. embassies, ministries and Styrian local government).
