Conducted two studies with start-up research money, the first asked female consumers of mental health care about their self-management strategies of living with schizophrenia as well as violence. The second study asked community mental health case managers to describe how they assisted women diagnosed with schizophrenia to decrease violence. Recruitment and research interviews completed May /200 8/2005 octoral Candidate University of Wisconsin Madison Faculty Advisor: Nadine Nehls, RN, and Ph.. Associate ean Conducted independent research for dissertation. The dissertation was comprised of two, separate studies. Two groups of participants were interviewed to gain a better understanding of what it means for women to live with a diagnosis of schizophrenia and history of violence, as well as how case managers understand these issues.
