1 Guide to school records held at the Barking and Dagenham Archives and Local Studies Centre To access any of the material listed below, please or telephone Last updated September 2014

2 Introduction This guide provides a list of school records, including minutes, admissions registers, log books, punishment books, scrapbooks and photograph albums, held at Barking and Dagenham Archive and Local Studies Centre. The records of schools sometimes contain genealogical information, such as a child s parentage, date of birth and place of origin. In addition to this, these sorts of records have the potential to reveal how the provision of education and the experiences of school children have changed since the Victorian Era. For further information about the administrative histories of the schools featured on this guide see Appendix A. We also look after the minute books, correspondence and reports of successive education boards and committees, which offer an insight into the management and organisation of schools in Barking and Dagenham. Further details of this material can be found in Appendix B. Please note we do not hold records, concerning the academic careers of individual pupils that attended school in the borough, such as examination results and certificates. If you wish to obtain proof of your qualifications, you will need to contact your old school or the relevant awarding body. For further advice on this, we recommend contacting the Office of Qualifications and Examination Regulation. For further information about the contents of any of the collections listed below or to enquire about viewing archive material in the reading room, please do not hesitate to contact a member of staff by at localstudies@lbbd.gov.uk or telephoning
