1 National Council on Rehabilitation Education (NCRE) Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) Council on State Administrators of Vocational Rehabilitation (CSAVR) Fall 2016 National Rehabilitation Education Conference Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel - Arlington, VA Sunday, October 16 Tuesday, October 18, 2016 Rehabilitation Education, Research and Service: Meeting the Needs of our Contemporary Counseling Practice Call for Program Proposals Scientific Poster Presentation Deadline Date: Wednesday, July 6, 2016 The National Rehabilitation Counselors Education Conference is a means of facilitating communication and sharing information among professionals involved in training, recruiting, hiring and enhancing the development of qualified rehabilitation counselors. The focus of the conference this year is refocusing and improving on the fundamental skills of training and developing the skills of professionals. For the 2016 Conference, we seek to broaden and diversify the exposure and content for conference attendees. It is our intention that this year s conference serves as a vehicle for evaluation and refinement of our rehabilitation counseling skills and outcomes. Moreover, too bring together in this experience rehabilitation counselors and educators with diverse expertise (e.g. RSA, community rehabilitation services, mental health, international rehabilitation, and private sector practitioners). For new and seasoned practitioners in rehabilitation counseling whose career goals are rehabilitation service provision, education, diversity, equity, and social justice, we hope to create an open environment for dialogue on such critical pieces to our identity and practice. This year, the conference planning committee is soliciting papers consistent with a timely theme: Rehabilitation Education, Research and Service: Meeting the Needs of our Contemporary Counseling Practice This theme reflects the constant nature of change in our field. With constant change we want to be the driving force behind defining what our profession is through innovation in teaching, research, and outcomes. We want to ensure that we communicate and share novel ideas, innovation and outcomes from research to guide education, legislation and policy. 1

Employment: New Solutions to Old, New and Emerging Problems Vocational rehabilitation continues to face increasing pressure to demonstrate cost effective outcomes. This pressure is particularly acute during the current budgetary and economic difficulties. We must get people with disabilities working more rapidly, more efficiently, in larger numbers, in jobs that lead to self-sustaining careers and prepared for careers of the future. Response to this track should describe successful, innovative, cost-effective partnerships, especially those focusing on youth-in-transition, VR consumers utilizing extended employment supports and minority populations. Inclusion, Equity, and Social Justice Proposals are invited that address the training needs of both rehabilitation counselors and educators alike. Presenters are encouraged to focus on current issues, theoretical frameworks, and research initiatives that connect the academic and practice realities of rehabilitation. Of special interest, and beyond training, are topics related to serving underrepresented populations (e.g. individuals with disabilities living in poverty, services provided to LGBTQ, individuals with HIV/AIDS, and individuals with disabilities who are immigrants). Legislation and Policy Proposals are invited that address contemporary issues affecting rehabilitation counseling and rehabilitation counselor education. Through their programs, presenters are encourage to generate conversations addressing issues affecting people with disabilities, for example and not limited to, WIOA, health reform and health disparities, employment issues, or academic accreditation. Of special interest is that topics in this area will generate and contribute to the unified voice advocating for rehabilitation counseling and a better quality of life for people with disabilities. Preservice and In-service Training: Are we Ready? Change is rapid. Training is critical to preparing a rehabilitation counseling workforce that is versatile enough to deal with both current problems and problems of the future. 5 HELPFUL TIPS FOR PREPARING AND SUBMITTING A PROPOSAL The Call for Proposals online form is not time sensitive when completing all the form fields.
