1 1 When Excellence and Accountability Converge, We Become Stronger Together Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf July 13 16, 2016 Sheraton Station Square Hotel 300 W Station Square Dr. Pittsburgh, PA Official OVERVIEW In the field of sign language interpreting, RID s Region I has a history of progressive thinking, as well as local, regional, and national involvement. The Seminar Committee for the 2016 Region I Conference hopes to draw upon the skills, knowledge, and insight of this region to address its own questions, conundrums, and interests. Seminars for this conference may take many forms: professional dialogues, lectures, panels, any combination of these, or a different structure altogether. To create a true sense of regional cohesion, strong proposals submitted by people professionally affiliated with Region I will be given preference in the seminar selection process. Presenters who are not affiliated with Region I should still apply, and they should indicate how they offer unique opportunities that might not be available from within Region I. The Seminar Committee would like to explicitly invite proposals by presenters from underrepresented communities, as well as proposals that will impact audiences from such communities. Underrepresented communities might include, but are not limited to, people of color; indigenous peoples; New Americans and first-generation Americans; LGB and Trans* communities; non- Christian religious traditions; and others.
