7 Rationale for structure The BA in Event Management is a specialist course designed to cater for those wishing to pursue careers in the events industry. It rests on the event management cycle (concept, design and planning, delivery, de-rig, debrief) as an overarching practical and theoretical framework in which to explore the knowledge, skills and personal attributes required by a contemporary events industry practitioner. It ensures a thorough grounding in the practicality of event management in the varied and rapidly evolving contemporary event industry; including event concept, design, planning, logistics, services, environmental impact, funding, and online services. These important areas of knowledge and skills are supported by modules that explore the theoretical and historical context of the event industry, and the personal, project management and business competencies required of a successful event manager. 13 Use of Subject benchmark Statements The BA Event Management course outcomes were written using the 2008 version of the subjectspecific Event Management benchmarks statements (QAA, Hospitality, Leisure, Sport and Tourism, 2008, p ), including: Analysing and evaluating the concepts and defining characteristics of events as an area of academic and applied study, Demonstrating a range of professional event planning and management knowledge and skills Recognising and valuing the centrality of the attendee and/or client and meet and respond to their needs and expectations Utillising and understanding the impact of rationales, sources and assumptions embedded in policy, planning and delivery mechanisms in an events context. The Curriculum Map was imported from the in-house course learning outcomes developed for the BA (Hons) Music Production, and the individual module learning outcomes were developed in consultation with BIMM s Head of Teaching & Learning and members of the BIMM Music Industry Advisory Panel. The design of the course was built around concepts and practices identified in the Event Management Body of Knowledge (2012) and the generalised principles of Event Life Cycle based planning and execution.
