3 Hazardous alcohol consumption Hazardous alcohol consumption substantially increases the risk of addiction, injuries, cancer and other disease. Data from emergency units in Swiss hospitals suggest that hazardous alcohol consumption may have increased over the past decade. Your job is to define and implement public health measures/interventions in order to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with hazardous alcohol consumption.

4 Smoking Smoking is one of the most important modifiable risk factors for cardiovascular disease, cancer and pulmonary disease. Despite some progress in men, smoking prevalence is still high compared with other countries. In women, smoking prevalence only marginally decreased over the past 15 years. Your job is to define and implement public health measures/interventions in order to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with smoking.

5 Physical inactivity Physical inactivity is a major cause of disease and death in Switzerland. It is expected that the prevalence of physical inactivity is high in Switzerland, particularly among elderly. There is also evidence that people became more and more physically inactive in the past years. Your job is to define and implement public health measures/interventions in order to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with physical inactivity.

6 Depression Depressive symptoms are frequent in Switzerland. Depression is a substantial burden for individuals but also for the entire society. Depression is a frequent cause of substance abuse or suicide. However, most cases could be prevented. Your job is to define and implement public health measures/interventions in order to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with depression.
