1 Articulation Agreements: Coming or Going Presented by Desiree Polk-Bland and Sarah Lathrop from Columbus State Community College Whether you are coming to or going from Columbus State, articulation agreements can provide a clear path to help students achieve their goals. In this session, we will look agreements that support high school students and their transition into the college. We will also look at agreements that support students and their transition to a bachelor degree. You will have the opportunity to ask questions, as well as receive materials and documents that will provide good examples for your institutions. April 10, 2015

6 Coming to the College Career-Technical Articulation The Career-Technical model is a seamless pathway for a student to gain technical skills and competence in high school and then allows for the student to articulate their high school work to college credit. Columbus State recognizes the work of the schools and their graduates by offering articulation agreements for their program graduates that come to Columbus State to pursue their education. Sample Bilateral Articulation Agreements are included in your packet.
7 Coming to the College College Credit Plus (CC+) Columbus State Community College (CSCC) is proud to partner with over 50 high schools in the Central Ohio area to create pathways from high school to college that encourage qualified young people to earn dual credit (high school and college credit) while they are still in high school. As of the academic year, the Ohio Board of Regents requires that districts and colleges work together to offer college course work that will result in transcripted college and high school credit. What you may have known before as "dual enrollment", "postsecondary enrollment", or "concurrent enrollment" is all part of the College Credit Plus (CC+) legislation.
8 Coming to the College Credit by Examination CLEP DSST AP IB credit-by-exam program developed by the College Board that allow testing candidates to earn credit for college courses by taking and passing comprehensive subject exams credit-by-exam originated by the United States Department of Defense's Defense Activity for Non- Traditional Education Support (DANTES) program that allow testing candidates to earn credit for college courses by taking and passing comprehensive subject exams credit-by-exam program for high school students developed by the College Board that allow testing candidates to earn credit for college courses by taking and passing comprehensive subject exams The International Baccalaureate is an international program of courses and examinations offered at the high school level.
9 Coming to the College Military Credit U.S. Armed Forces or National Guard, training, experience and/or coursework may translate to college credit. All training, experience, and coursework must first be recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE) or a regional accrediting body, such as the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), in order to be eligible to earn college credit. To receive college credit for military service, students must request that a Joint Service Transcript be sent to Columbus State. College transcript evaluators generally award generic college credit for military service. Students can however contact the academic department to apply for credit toward specific courses. For example, you could be awarded general credit in Computer Information Technology, but contact the Computer Information Technology department to get credit for CIT 215. Military Transfer Assurance Guides (MTAGs) provide a statewide guarantee that certain types of military training, experience, and/or coursework align to existing college and university courses and will be awarded appropriate credit. The Ohio Board of Regents (OBR) will update state approved MTAGs.
10 Coming to the College Prior Learning Assessment Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) is evaluation of learning acquired outside of the college. It is available to students whose documented life experiences provide evidence of knowledge equivalent to that required in a given course. Students typically need to prepare a portfolio documenting the prior learning for a particular course. The portfolio needs to include evidence that the student has the knowledge and skills, which match the outcomes which are identified for a particular CSCC course. Applying for prior learning assessment and preparing a portfolio does not guarantee that credit will be awarded.
11 Coming to the College College Transfer Credit Many students start somewhere else, then transfer to Columbus State to take advantage of our small class sizes, low tuition, or simply to be closer to home. Columbus State welcomes new students transferring from many colleges and universities. Students must submit official college transcripts (sealed, unopened) as soon as possible to allow our Records and Registration Department sufficient time to evaluate your transcripts.
