1 Summer Enrichment Programs The programs listed are suggestions regarding summer opportunities. TAS does not recommend any of these programs and this list is in no way complete. We offer this list as a convenient way for you to research summer opportunities. Don t forget about the TAS Summer Academy and Internship Program! Program dates, contact information, cost, and application procedures can be accessed at their individual websites shown below. Please check the TAS schedule of visitors for occasional presentations from summer program representatives who may be coming to our campus to discuss their summer offerings or pick up a brochure in the US Academic Counseling Office (2D02). Art/Music/Writing Programs Berklee College of Music Berklee offers five to twelve week programs that focus on performance, music theory, recording sessions, song writing, and specific instruments. Boston University Visual Arts Summer Institute BU offers an intensive four-week visual art program designed for help students build their art portfolios for the college process. California College of Arts and Crafts Pre-College Program Denison University: The Jonathan R. Reynolds Young Writers Workshop Duke Domestic Field Studies Creative writing at Ghost Ranch in New Mexico and Filmmaking in Orange, CA High School Investigative Reporting Workshop at Boston University The Juilliard School Pre-College Summer Programs adult/summer/index.php Applications are reviewed beginning in mid-february and some programs require auditions. Juilliard offers a full range of opportunities in theatre, music, dance, and vocal studies. Kenyon College Review Young Writers Summer Program writers/ Young Writers is an intensive two-week workshop for intellectually curious, motivated high school students who value writing. 2 Pacific Northwest College of Art Pre-college studios, study with professional artists and art educators, get new ideas about artistic practices, and build up your portfolio School of the Museum of Fine Arts: Pre-College Summer Studio The five-week pre-college Summer Studio is a unique and rigorous program focused on making art, sharing art, and living art. Rhode Island School of Design studies program 1 The Summer Studies program in the visual and liberal arts encompasses a wide spectrum of interests designed to meet the needs of beginning, intermediate, and advanced students. Sewanne Young Writer s Conference Arthur Miller, Derek Walcott, Horton Foote, Mark Strand, and Ernest Gaines join serious high school writers for two weeks of intensive literacy discussion and creation. The Boston Conservatory programs Music, Dance, Theater Tisch School of the Arts Vassar College Powerhouse Summer Theatre Program Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School: Performing Arts Institute Debate Programs Michigan Debate Institute Since 1985, Michigan Debate Institutes have offered a strong faculty, innovative curriculum design and the tremendous resources of the University of Michigan to thousands of students from all 50 states representing over one thousand high schools. Graduates have experienced great competitive success.

3 Secondary School/College/University Summer School Programs (Note: Attending a summer program on a college campus gives no advantage in the admissions process. These programs are meant to give students a taste of college dormitory life and the experience of living away from home while being with other high school aged students.) Barnard College Summer Program The program provides an opportunity for rising juniors and seniors to experience the challenges and rewards of college life against the exciting backdrop of New York City. Berkeley, University of California ATDP, Academic Talent Development Program Boston University Summer School Rising seniors may apply and choose between the General Honors Program and the Research Internship program in science and engineering. Boston College Summer School The deadline for registration is up to seven days before courses begin. Brown University Summer School The program for rising seniors provides opportunities to participate actively in and out of class, grow as a learner and a person in an Ivy League environment, enjoy extracurricular activities and trips, and become an important member of a dynamic campus. Carnegie Mellon University CMU offers courses in AP classes, architecture, art, design, drama, and music, as well as the national Game Academy. Choate Rosemary Hall Summer Programs With a variety of programs (two, four, and five weeks), Choate provides specialized learning opportunities, and students leave with better time management and study skills, but more importantly, having developed friendships with students and faculty. Columbia University High School Program school Study with distinguished instructors, exchange ideas with intellectually curious peers, and be inspired. Noncredit courses in law, politics, college prep, arts, and sciences. Concordia Language Villages Language emersion programs offered in: Arabic, Chinese, Danish, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish; enjoy camping in language village setting for 2-4 weeks (grades 9-12)

4 Cornell University, Summer College It is a comprehensive academic summer program for high school juniors and seniors. Cornell also offers a Summer Honors Program for high school sophomores. Cushing Academy Leadership for the 21 st century: Prep for Success, Studio Art, College Prep, Critical Skills Across the Curriculum, ESL Duke University A challenging experience for academically talented and motivated students, Duke offers a range of activities outside of class, including student government, drama, intramural sports, and community service. Georgetown University Summer Program programs for high school students George Washington University Summer Program Great Books Summer Program Global Paths Summer Program The Global Paths Summer Program (GPS) is a 10-day program for year old high school students interested in a global business career and in going to a US or a UK university. Harvard Summer School school For more than 25 years, Harvard Summer School has accepted 1,000 highly qualified high school juniors and seniors into its eight-week session. Secondary students take regular college level courses along with undergraduates from Harvard and elsewhere. International College of Hotel Management This program located in Australia prepares students for a successful career at the top end of the international hotel industry. This live-in introduction to hotel management is your opportunity to experience firsthand the hotel/hospitality environment and ICHM. 5 Kingdom Education Marist Summer Pre-College Programs Oxford Royale Academy Northwestern University College Prep Program University of Pennsylvania Pre-College Program Designed for academically gifted high school juniors and seniors, the program offers a wide range of courses including pre-business, pre-law and politics, pre-medicine, social sciences, mathematics, writing, and the arts. Phillips Academy Andover Fostering a passion for lifelong learning, the Summer Session combines a full boarding, pre-college experience with small classes in a multicultural community with innovative pedagogy complementing traditional areas over a five week period. Phillips Exeter Academy This is a residential/day program for motivated students who are entering grades 9-12 and PG. There are more than 90 course offerings where the focus is on learning for learning s sake. Skidmore College Pre-College Program in the Liberal Arts Smith College Since 1990, nearly 1,800 girls representing 46 U.S> states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and 53 foreign countries have participated in SSEP (Summer Science & Engineering Program). Stanford University Summer School Located in the heart of Los Angeles, USC is a global center for the arts, technology, and intercontinental trade. Knowledge Exchange Institute (KEI) KEI offers international summer enrichment programs around the world through classes, internships, field trips, cultural activities, and research opportunities. Leysin American School in Switzerland Oxford Advanced Studies Program The Oxford Advanced Studies Program is an academic and cultural summer course for high school students, specifically designed to be intellectually stimulating and academically relevant. Summer Camp in Japan The Oxbridge Academic Programs Over 70 innovative, challenging courses for students in Oxford, Cambridge, and Paris University of St. Andrews (Scotland) andrews.ac.uk/study/non degree/summer/ School for Field Studies SFS sends high school seniors to internationally based field stations to take on a rigorous course of experimental, field based study. School Year Abroad (SYA) It is an academic program for high school students who want to study overseas. Spoleto Study Abroad The program is designed for high school students interested in the arts and humanities, located in the beautiful Spoleto Valley in central Italy. Summer Discovery Pre-college enrichment programs throughout the world Summer Study Visions Service Adventures Visions offers summer programs focused on service work and cross-cultural exchange for high school students from around the world. Where There Be Dragons WTBD offers travel packages, trekking trips, service projects, language immersion, wilderness exploration, cultural studies, and home stays in countries all around the world.

9 Leadership Programs and Internships The Bronfman Youth Fellowship in Israel (BYFI) This is a program for promising young people in the North American Jewish community to study Judaism and the Jewish world through the eyes of Israel. Discovery Internship Summer internship program for high school students with locations in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, and London Junior Statesman of America For students interested in politics, law, economics, and philosophy, JSA is a nationally recognized program located on the campuses of five, highly selective college campuses. Students are involved in classes and sessions designed to develop their knowledge of political systems, their ability to speak and write persuasively, and their appreciation for intellectual and ethical principles. Pennsylvania School for Global Entrepreneurship Lehigh University lehigh.org/iacocca/home/index.shtml Exposes students to the topics of entrepreneurship, globalization, team building, project management, and leadership University of Pennsylvania Leadership Program in the Business World Leadership in the Business World is a four-week program at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania designed to introduce talented rising high school seniors to the fundamental skills and knowledge necessary to lead in the 21 st century. Summerbridge Cambridge This is a national educational program seeking high school students as teachers and mentors. Military Academy Summer Programs United States Military Academy (West Point) The United States Military Academy conducts the Invitational Academic Workshop (IAW) for academically gifted high school juniors going into their senior year. The IAW is a weeklong program of academic workshops, military training, physical fitness training, and intramural athletics. United States Naval Academy Summer Session The United States Naval Academy Summer Seminar offers the opportunity for rising high school seniors to visit the Naval Academy for one week during the summer. Students will experience all aspects of the Naval Academy including the academic program and midshipman life.

10 Programs for Minority Students LEAD LEAD offers minority high school juniors (rising seniors) with strong academic credentials and demonstrated leadership skills an opportunity to explore challenging careers in business. LEAD s summer business institutes are held for three to four weeks at ten leading graduate business schools such as UPenn, Duke, Northwestern, Virginia, and Dartmouth. Outdoor Programs Adventure Treks Offers carefully planned, action packed adventures for young men and women between the ages of 13 and 18. Each day adventure includes a wide variety of exciting wilderness activities such as rock climbing, whitewater rafting, sea kayaking, mountain biking, canoeing, mountaineering, and backpacking in some of the most breathtaking scenery in western North America. Coastal Studies for Girls Columbia Gorge Teen Camps Les Elfes International- Switzerland Wilderness Ventures Outdoor adventure program for young adults with expeditions through the United States, Europe, Central America, and Australia National Outdoor Leadership Schools Blending the finest parts of a traditional school with the best wilderness education available, NOLS offers outdoor programs throughout the world from the United States and India to New Zealand and Patagonia. Science/Mathematical Programs Carl Benz School of Engineering MIT Women s Technology Program MIT s program is a 4-week residential summer school for high school girls to explore electrical engineering and computer science.

11 MIT s Research Science Institute (RSI) science institute Ross Mathematical Program at Ohio State University The Ross Program is an intensive summer experience designed to encourage motivated pre-college students to explore mathematics. During those eight weeks, students are immersed in a world of mathematical discovery. University of Pennsylvania Applied Science and Technology The School of Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania offers a unique opportunity for high school students to study computer graphics, nanotechnology, biotechnology, and robotics. PROMYS at Boston University PROMYS offers an intensive experience in creative mathematical exploration, taught by Boston University faculty to approximately 65 high school students with an exceptionally strong interest in mathematics. The Summer Science Program The program is organized around a classic astronomical research curriculum. Vanderbilt Summer Engineering, Science and Technology Vanderbilt offers a unique program for high school students to explore a science, engineering, medical, or technology based career.
