1 What is the Common Application Form? Referred to as the CAF, the application in ERAS is a 12+ page form designed to collect applicant information. In the CAF are places to list research performed, experiences, education, volunteer activities, and a whole lot more. Visit for a CAF tutorial. Just the CAF Facts: You do not have to complete in one sitting. Each page is savable, and even after you have saved a page you can still make edits to it and re save. You cannot begin applying to programs via ERAS until the CAF is completed, all its pages saved, and the CAF as a whole is certified. You cannot certify your CAF until September 15, hence, you cannot begin applying to programs until September 15. Once you have certified your CAF there is no going back. Once certified (which you can begin doing on September 15), your CAF will be locked and you will not be permitted to make any edits or additions to it. The same CAF will go to each program you apply to. CAF Steps 1. Register with ERAS using your Token 2. complete CAF individual pages, saving them as you go along: Now September certify your CAF: Beginning September 15 Once your CAF is certified, you may begin applying to programs Viewing Your CAF: The CAF can be viewed and printed in two ways: as the CAF, and as a CV. ERAS has a function that will turn your CAF into a CV for viewing and printing. Residency Directors are used to dealing with CVs, so many will print your CAF out as a CV.

3 Application Home Tab Th H t b h th t t f th The Home tab shows the status of the application at a glance and displays the two versions of the MyERAS application.

4 Application General Tab The General tab collects the applicant s general biographical information, permanent address, and military information.

5 Application- Education Tab On the Education tab, applicants record undergraduate and graduate education.

6 Application Medical Education Tab On the Medical Education tab, applicants record medical school education.

7 Application Training Tab On the Training tab, applicants record residency and fellowship experience.

8 Application Experience Tab On the Experience tab, applicants record work, volunteer and research experience.

9 Application Publications Tab On the Publications tab, applicants record published works. ERAS does not verify these entries.

10 Application Exams Tab. On the Exams tab, applicants self-report all board exams taken and the status of the exam (passed, failed, awaiting results). Official exam results are transmitted from NBME, NBOME, or ECFMG (for IMGs) when requested by the applicant.

11 Application Licensure Information Tab Information pertaining to the applicant s medical licensure is collected on the Licensure Information tab.

12 Application Board Certification Board certification and DEA information is collected here.

13 Application Medical Licenses Tab On the Medical Licenses tab, the applicant reports any state medical licenses received.

14 Application Race Tab (optional) On the Race tab, applicants may respond dto this USC Census Bureau question about race. It is not required.

15 Application Ethnicity Tab (optional) On the Ethnicity tab, applicants may respond to this US Census Bureau question about ethnicity. It is not required.

16 Application Misc Tab Part 1 On the Misc. tab, applicants respond to questions about factors that might limit their ability to perform responsibilities, language fluency and hobbies.

17 Application Misc Tab Part 2 On the Misc tab, applicants respond to questions about medical school awards, other accomplishments and membership in professional societies.

18 Application - Submit Part 1 In Part 1 of the application certification process, applicants must click Next to verify that they understand they cannot change their MyERAS application after submitting it.

19 Application Submit Part 2 In Part 2 of the application certification process, applicants must click Next to confirm they understand d the AAMC s Privacy and Data policy and ERAS Integrity Promotion Policy.

20 Application Submit Part 3.1 In Part 3 of the application certification process, applicants must certify the information provided is accurate prior to submitting to ERAS.

21 Application Submit Part 3.2 The certification statement also discusses ERAS Integrity Promotion Policy.

22 Application Submit Part 4 Applicants must certify the application and officially release the information to parties they designate to receive it.

23 Application Confirmation Confirms the applicant s MyERAS application has been sent to the ERAS PostOffice and that the applicant may begin applying to programs.
