3 Keio University Established in 1858 by Yukichi Fukuzawa as the first modern university in Asia to drive Japan s modernization Have been the central institution in introducing modern institutional systems for business, including patent system, and joint stock company system. Graduates played major roles in establishing new companies such as Mitsubishi companies or modernizing Mitsui.
