3 L HISTOIRE Quand une mafia étrangère décide de faire main basse sur le trafic de drogue en Islande, le quotidien de plusieurs personnes va s en trouver bouleversé, les liant entre elles indirectement et pour toujours : une jeune femme officier de police portant son deuil, un mécanicien serbe réclamant vengeance, un criminel cardiaque, un policier corrompu de la brigade des stups... THE CAST Ágústa Eva Erlendsdottir (Andrea) (born on July 28 th, 1982) began her acting career with the Kópavogur Theatre group where she participated in many productions from an early age. She has become one of Iceland s leading movie actresses starring in Baltasar Kormakur s Jar City in 2006 and Ragnar Bragason s Bjarnfredarson in Agusta has written and starred in a few TV series, most notably Silvia Night, an alter ego which ended up becoming Iceland s entry in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2006, which caused quite a stir amongst reporters, organizers and audience in Athens. Her most notable stage performance has to be Vesturport s Romeo and Juliet in 2006, directed by Gisli Örn Gardarsson. She attended the École Philippe Gaulier theatre school in Paris. Futhermore, Agusta is a versatile musician performing both with others and her own music. In 2011, Agusta played Margret, the elementary school teacher opposite Stefan Karl Stefansson in Polite People and her role in City State as Andrea the heartbroken narc office has firmly established her as one of Iceland s most versatile actresses. Zlatko Krickic (Sergej) (born on January 26 th, 1971) is born and raised in a small former Yougoslavian town called Knin, now in Croatia. He finished high school and was fast becoming a professional footballer when the war broke out in After the war he played football in Serbia and soon after his family was invited to move to Iceland under the United Nations refugee programme as his family could not return to Knin immediately after the war as they are of Serbian origin. Zlatko joined them in Iceland a couple of years later and has lived there ever since playing football, opening up his own auto repair shop and playing keyboards and singing in a band called the Balkan Express. He enjoys life in Iceland but part of his family has returned to Croatia. Zlatko met director Olaf de Fleur Jøhannsesson when he was making the documentary Africa United (2005), where he played the position of a midfielder in Africa United, team of immigrants in Iceland, and soon became one of the leading characters in the documentary. Zlatko, furthermore, played the part of Mustang, the enforcer, in Olaf s feature The Higher Force, which was released in T Ingvar E. Sigurdsson (Gunnar) (born on November 22 nd, He graduated from the Iceland Academy of the Arts in 1990 and got a permanent position within the National Theatre of Iceland a year later. Since then he has played leading roles, both dramatic and comic, in many of Iceland's theaters as well as participated in independent productions. Ingvar is one of the founders of the theatre group Vesturport and has played leading roles in their productions at home and abroad including Romeo and Juliet at the Young Vic and Voyzeck at the Barbican theatre. Ingvar played the role of Herman in the Lyric Hammersmith production of Metamorphosis. Other important roles include The National Theatre s productions of Ibsen s Peer Gynt, Razumovskaja s Dear Jelena and Halldor Laxness s Iceland s Bell, for which he recently received the Icelandic Theatre award, the Grima, for best actor in a leading role. 2

4 Ingvar s movie roles include Angels of the Universe, for which he received the prestigious European Film Awards for best actor in He was the lead in Baltasar Komakur s Jar City in 2006 and starred in Kathryn Bigelow s K-19 The Widowmaker (2002). In addition he is one of the co-authors of the twin features Children (2006) and Parents (2007) produced by the Vesturport group and directed by Ragnar Bragason. Ingvar is a five time Icelandic Film Awards winner for best actor and has long since become one of Iceland s most beloved actors on stage as well as the big screen. Ingvar starred in The Higher Force (2008) and the Polite People (2008), both produced by Poppoli Pictures. In City State, Ingvar portrays Gunnar, the crime king with a heart condition who wants to get out of the business. Ingvar also serves as an Executive Producer of the film. Sigurdur Sigurjónsson (Margeir) (born on July 6 th, 1955) is an actor, director and scriptwriter who graduated from the Iceland Academy of the Arts in 1976 and has had a successful career in acting on stage, TV, radio and the cinema. His first movie role was in Agust Gudmundsson s Land og synir in 1980, a film that is thought to have brought Icelandic filmmaking up to a new level from an infancy stage. He is a founding member of Spaugstofan, a weekly comedy sketch show which has been one of the most popular shows in Icelandic television history. In recent years Sigurdur has focused more on theatre directing, having taken on children s plays and comedy productions on the main stages in Icelandic theatre. Recent roles include David Gieselmann s The Pigeons on stage in Reykjavik City Theatre and Valdis Oskarsdottir s two recent feature films King s Road (2010) and Country Wedding (2008). In City State, Sigurdur stars as Margeir, the corrupt narc sergeant who plays both sides, a role which recently brought him a Best Actor nomination for the upcoming Edda Awards, The Icelandic Film Awards. 3

5 THE CREW Olaf de Fleur (Director & producer) Olaf de Fleur Jøhannsesson was born in 1975 in Budardalur, a small town in Iceland, and has been a dedicated filmmaker for over a decade. He was recenly signed to William Morris Endevour, the Hollywood talent agency. He founded his own independent production company, Poppoli Pictures, in Poppoli s first production Shining Star, won him the Best Documentary Feature award at the Icelandic Film Awards in 2004, and he won the award again in 2005 for the feature documentary Africa United. He was selected for the Berlinale Talent Campus in two consecutive years, in 2003 and He wrote and directed his first feature film The Amazing Truth about Queen Raquela which won him the Teddy award for Best Feature at the Berlinale in The film travelled the festival circuit for over two years, has won numerous awards internationally and received the Best Nordic Film nomination in Olaf de Fleur Jøhannsesson released his second feature in 2008 called The Higher Force, a comedy that did very well at the Icelandic box office. The Higher Force premiered internationally at the AFI Film Festival in November In 2011, Olaf and his producer Kristin Andrea released a documentary called Adequate Beings and two fiction features City State and Polite People. Recently City State and Polite People received 13 nominations for the Edda Awards, The Icelandic Film Awards. International Business (2004) and M.Sc. Marketing Communications Management (2006). During her last year of her masters studies she acknowledged her passion for film and decided she wanted to pursue a career in film production. She joined Poppoli Pictures and has worked with director and founder Olaf de Fleur Jøhannsesson since as producer and head of production. She joined the company during post production of The Amazing Truth about Queen Raquela and has been producing Poppoli films ever since saw the release of The Amazing Truth about Queen Raquel at the Berlinale and received the Teddy Award for Best Feature and went on to additional 60 festivals worldwide and picked up several awards. Also in 2008 the feature The Higher Force, a comedy which did very well at the Icelandic box office, was released. In 2011, Kristin and director Olaf have released three films; the documentary Adequate Beings and City State and Polite People. In addition, Kristin released a fiction short last year entitled Undying Love directed by Omar Orn Hauksson and has recently taken seat on the board of Association of Icelandic Film Producers. Olaf and Kristin are currently developing another feature film, a television series and two documentaries. 4
