2 Florida Turfgrass Research Foundation Inc Scholarship Application Form Guidelines for Scholarship Awards Definition The Florida Turfgrass Research Foundation provides scholarships to students who are studying Turfgrass Management, Horticulture or other turfgrass-related curriculum, who want to work in the turfgrass industry. Scholarships shall be awarded annually to students who meet the selection criteria set forth below. Candidate Selection Criteria 1. Academic record. Candidate must have a 3.0 or better GPA 2. Potential for leadership in Florida Turfgrass Industry 3. Attitude 4. Financial need 5. At least two Letters of Recommendation 6. In 500 words or less, explain how this scholarship will assist in achieving your turfgrass career goals. Candidate Selection Procedure 1. The Scholarship Committee will send Scholarship Application Forms to known faculty advisors at qualified institution. The application will also be available on the FTGA website at 2. The completed application shall be returned to the FTGA by the date specified. 3. Scholarship selections shall be made by the FTGA Scholarship Committee. 4. FTGA reserves the right not to award scholarship(s) if none of the applicants meet the Candidate Qualification Criteria. 5. The award presentation will be made during the FTGA Annual Conference & Show. Recipients should be present and will be notified on the date and time. Scholarships Available: Open to Graduate and Under-Graduate Students Col. Frank Ward Memorial Scholarship (Minimum $1,500) This scholarship is awarded to a University of Florida student who is studying Turfgrass Management, Horticulture or other turfgrass-related curriculum, with the intent to work in the turfgrass industry. Hans + Otto Schmeisser Memorial Scholarship ($100 or $250) This scholarship was completely revised in Up to six awards will be made to Florida Gateway College students who are working towards the online Horticulture Certificate. The intent of this scholarship is to give online students the opportunity to network with industry professionals at the FTGA Annual Conference & Show (C&S). Students have the option of receiving $250, or if the student chooses to assist during the 2½ days of C&S, the FTGA will wave all C&S costs plus provide a $100 travel allowance (an estimated $850 total value). William J. Entwistle Memorial Scholarship (Minimum $1,000) This scholarship is awarded to a student studying Turfgrass Management, Horticulture or other turfgrassrelated curriculum at any Florida college or community college who wants to work in the turfgrass industry. Florida Gateway College students interested in the tuition reimbursement program through the James L. Blackledge Memorial Scholarship should apply at 2
