1 INTERNSHIP INFORMATION: Are you a student enrolled in an animal related college curriculum and would like to gain experience in exotic animal care? Dade City s Wild Things is accepting applications for internship programs at our Zoo. You must be enrolled in a college curriculum or have completed at least 2 years of college in biology, animal psychology, zoology, wildlife management or any other animal related studies or 3 years of verifiable job experience in a related field. INTERNSHIP OBJECTIVE: To experience professional hands on animal care of exotic animals. Actively participating in every aspect of a Zoo s operation. Provide support of staff and enhance productivity and efficiency in animal care. INTERNSHIP GUIDELINES: Minimum age is 21 years of age. Minimum length of programs is 4 months Must be able to life and carry 50 pounds on a routine basis Must be able to read and speak English Must be drug and alcohol Free at all times Must not have any health issues that can be Zoonotic or prevent job performance INTERNSHIP ACCOMODATIONS: Lodging will be provided on site and is based on availability. You will be staying in shared living quarters which are basic, but comfortable with water, electricity, air conditioning and heat, TV, Internet, bathroom with hot showers and mini kitchen. Interns must be comfortable spending quiet evenings in their own Company depending on how many interns are on the premises at one time. Interns are responsible for all transportation to and from the Zoo premises. No guest are allowed on Zoo Premises at any time. No Animals are allowed on Zoo premises.

2 INTERNSHIP JOB DESCRIPTION: Interns will be working full time 6 days a week (Monday Saturday) and light duties and studies on Sundays. All interns must undergo training courses on safety procedures, crisis management, rules and regulations of the Zoo. Assist in preparing diets and food distributions. Cleaning and maintenance of habitats Training on tours and educational programs Assist in habitat creation Assist in grounds maintenance and habitat landscaping Assist in general animal enrichment activities and plans Assist in administering medications and any medical issues arising Assist in general administration duties INTERNSHIP REQUIRED PROJECTS: Researc h and prepare Educational Materials or Program Research and prepare Food Plans Research and create an enrichment Item Research and create a training item and session Research and create a tour manual Research and create a Marketing Idea Research and create a grant request Research and create a safety manual Research local, state and federal laws Research caging requirements and create a habitat design

3 INTERNS REQUIRED TO: Provide own transportation Provide own computer and printer Provide own spending money, personal items, food, entertainment, etc. Recommend bringing own movies, videos and study books. Local library is available. Provide all weather and situation clothing needed for working or dealing with the public. These animals are not pets, but you will be allowed close contact as your training progresses. Trust is a big factor in the learning process. As you progress in your training so will your danger level increase. As long as all rules are followed and a trust factor is established will you gain your full capacity of the program. If for any reason you are caught breaking any rules or your trust factor is broken your internship program will immediately end. The management of Dade City s Wild Things has the final ruling.

I also certify that I meet all the requirements and agree to the commitments and pledge to follow all the rules outlined in the Internship application listed. I also pledge I am not in any way part of any animal activist group, including but not limited to PETA, HSUS, BCR etc. I also agree that I will not talk about in person, internet, mail, fax, or any way about Dade City s Wild Things, its animals, Directors, Volunteers, Employees, etc.. I understand that no pictures or videos are allowed outside of personal use and only at the direction of management. I understand I will be liable for damages to breaking any of these rules or agreements. I also admit that I am fully aware of the dangers in working for Dade City s Wild Things and its animals. I will not hold harmless Dade City s Wild Things, its Directors, heirs etc. I agree that I will not allow any animal to be put down for any type of testing if I am injured. I agree to rabies vaccines instead of requiring the animal to be killed for testing.
