3 THE SUMMIT 2011 The newly-launched CFO Summit Southern Europe has come off to an excellent start. Close to 140 top finance executives from places as far apart as Turkey and Portugal came together at the Palazzo Mezzanotte in Milan on 8 February to discuss the challenges ahead. Perfect organisation, commented one CFO from an Italian manufacturing group. Keynote speakers included Luigi Ferraris, CFO of Italy s largest utility Enel, and Roberto Chollet Ibarra, CFO of Spanish hotel chain NH Hotels. While Mr Ferraris outlined Enel s deleveraging programme, the biggest of its kind in Europe, Mr Chollet explained how he was preparing the group for the uncertainty created by the sovereign debt crisis. Other highlevel panels touched on the general role of the CFO, cash flow generation and various other key CFO topics. The event was kicked off at a gala dinner the night before the actual conference. The NHow, a new design hotel format launched by NH Hotels in Milan and Berlin, provided the perfect setting for excellent food and intimate talks. Massimo Campioli, director of finance, administration and compliance of Italy s number 1 football club AC Milan gave a passionate speech on the parallels between finance and football.
