18 Conceptual Model Purpose Tells the pictorial story of environmental conditions onsite and nearby Identifies data needs and gaps that are customized to the regional, geographical and regulatory conditions Supports the rationale for selection of sampling locations Establishes requirements for background (off-site) and onsite characterization Serves as a Communication Tool to describe site conditions At any stage in your work, refines your understanding of the site conditions (initial site characterization, and selection of remedial alternatives, post-remediation monitoring, etc.) 18
