6 About TSI Theatre Solutions, Inc. (TSI) designs and produces distinctive and durable fixed seating. We are committed to providing the highest quality fixed seating and associated services in the world. Quality, aesthetics, comfort and flexibility make TSI fixed seating the preferred choice for any building type. In addition to the advantages of our products, the attention TSI gives to every detail through each phase of the project makes us a valued ally to the architect, theater consultant, or building owner. The Herman Miller Alliance Theatre Solutions has entered into a formal alliance with Herman Miller, Inc., a recognized pioneer and global provider of office furniture since The collaboration unites the award-winning design and ergonomics of Herman Miller s Aeron and Equa 2 chairs with fixed training tables from TSI. Theatre Solutions maintains its established high level of service to include layout and design, project management, and product installation. The Lecture Seating Series Fixed training tables and seating lend security and order to the lecture environment. In this context, the term fixed seating refers to the permanent layout of seating within a space, where a steel mechanism suspends the chair uppers while also securing the worksurface to the floor. The advantages of such an arrangement are numerous: it provides for an ample worksurface area with optional power/data access; it silently returns unoccupied chairs to a forward-facing rest position; it eliminates chair theft; and it clears the floor of obstacles for ease of cleaning. Configurations are custom manufactured to meet each room s layout requirements. Worksurfaces are available in a variety of high-pressure laminates and edge details. TSI offers three seat uppers in the Lecture Seating series: TSI s Forum A fully-upholstered chair with an inner shell that incorporates a waterfall front edge and lumbar support. Available both with and without arms, as well as an optional tilt mechanism. Herman Miller s Aeron Revolutionizing the world of ergonomic seating, this state-of-the-art design allows the body to pivot naturally and simultaneously at the ankles, knees, and hips for smooth, proper support in any seated position. Available both with and without arms. Herman Miller s Equa 2 Originally designed as a high performance office chair, the seat and back of the onepiece shell flex independently providing passive support for users as they shift body position. Available both with and without arms. The Jury Base Seating Series TSI offers four models of pedestal based seating that address the unique needs of the courtroom. All provide modern styling, advanced ergonomics, swivel & return capability, and optional tilt functions. To coordinate overall courtroom aesthetics, Teatro and Acclaim are available as both fixed audience seating and pedestal base seating. The following models are available: TSI s Acclaim Coordinates with fixed Acclaim audience seating to provide a uniform look within the courtroom. The Acclaim is available fully-upholstered or with an outer wood veneer back panel to provide enhanced acoustics and additional protection. Hardwood armrests are standard; a tilt mechanism is an available option. TSI s Forum A fully-upholstered chair with an inner shell that incorporates a waterfall front edge and lumbar support. Available both with and without arms, as well as an optional tilt mechanism TSI s Teatro Coordinates with fixed Teatro audience seating to provide a uniform look within the courtroom. The Teatro is available fully-upholstered or with an outer wood veneer back panel to provide enhanced acoustics and additional protection. Hardwood armrests are standard; a tilt mechanism is an available option. 7 Lecture Seating Features Aeron Chair Herman Miller s Aeron chair has revolutionized the world of ergonomic seating by introducing users to the benefits of its unique Pellicle suspension and Kinemat tilt mechanism. The Aeron breaks new ground by providing advanced ergonomics and state-of-the-art design in a fixed seating environment. Aeron s Kinemat tilt lets the body pivot naturally and simultaneously at the ankles, knees, and hips for smooth, proper support in any seated position. Aeron is the only chair with Pellicle suspension, a unique material that conforms to the body and distributes weight evenly over the seat and back for truly customized support. Air circulates through the Pellicle to keep the occupant comfortable by preventing body heat build-up. Features Pellicle suspension s lightweight and breathable design distributes the user s weight evenly over the seat and back of the chair. Three Pellicle patterns are available. The Kinemat tilt mechanism lets the body naturally pivot at the ankles, knees, and hips. The Aeron meets CAL133 requirements. Chairs are available with fixed non-adjustable arms or armless versions. Graphite, titanium, or polished aluminum frames are available. Aeron is supported by a full five-year warranty. Equa 2 Chair Herman Miller s Equa 2 chair was originally designed as a high performance office chair; many of its key design elements make it an ideal lecture/training room chair. The seat and back of the one-piece shell flex independently, providing passive support for users as they shift body position and posture. The opening between the seat and back allows air circulation to keep the occupant cool. The Equa 2 is equipped with a kneetilt mechanism that allows a shift from an upright to reclined posture while maintaining the position of the feet to the floor. The front edge of the seat remains stationary when the chair tilts, thus eliminating pressure under the thighs and promoting proper circulation. Features Unique one-piece shell has an H-shaped cutout that allows the shell to flex and move passively with the user. The knee-tilt mechanism allows the user to recline without lifting his feet off the floor, and includes tilt-tension adjustment. Chairs are available with fixed non-adjustable arms or armless versions. Replaceable cushions are standard on the split-pad upholstered model. An optional adjustable lumbar support is available. Chair shells are available in black umber, graphite, and medium tone finish. Frames are available in black umber, graphite, medium tone, and polished aluminum. Optional fire-retardant chair meets CAL133 requirements. Equa 2 is supported by a full five-year warranty. Forum Chair Designed and manufactured by TSI, the Forum is a fully-upholstered chair with an inner shell that incorporates a waterfall front edge and lumbar support. Features The Forum is available with a tilt or non-tilt mechanism. The tilt version has a tension adjustment that allows users of all sizes to be properly supported. Chairs are available with fixed non-adjustable arms or armless versions. Optional fire-retardant chair meets CAL133 requirements. Forum is supported by a full five-year warranty. Seat/Table Support Fixed training tables and chairs are connected to the industries most advanced support system. The mechanism assembly is constructed with heavy gauge steel plates and bars that are designed to bear the loads applied by users, while also maintaining a smooth and quiet operation. The arm return springs have been designed and tested to give years of trouble-free service. A cast aluminum hood covers the mechanism, conceals all moving parts and allows for easy cleaning. Chairs are supported by a swivel and memory return cylinder that properly orients the chair to its closed position. The support tube provides electrical and data cable access at both the floor and worksurface heights. 6 Planning, Installation & Specification Manual Lecture Seating

11 Planning Information Theatre Solutions offers a variety of services designed to help in the planning and successful completion of any project requiring the use of fixed seating. Our services include analyzing proposed architectural plans and developing a seating layout that best meets the project criteria. We will assist in resolving issues related to code compliance and sight line development. All TSI preliminary services are free to architects and potential customers. Further assistance is offered at those times when the architect has a need for custom components or a totally new product concept. The TSI team of experienced product designers welcomes the opportunity to assist designers in developing solutions to the most unique project requirements. Program/Schematic Design Based on the estimated project requirements, we will assist architects in the development of a preliminary budget covering the fixed seating. This will ensure the establishment of a project budget that includes adequate funding for the product that meets the architect s requirements. Design Development During this critical phase of the project, we will assist the architect in the development of preliminary chair layout drawings, taking into consideration proper sightlines and code compliance. In many cases, the layout drawings must be perfected through several submissions. Special product requirements and possible solutions will be offered at this time. TSI will develop preliminary fixed seating specifications, which will be submitted to the architect for review and possible modifications. By solving design and specifications problems in greater detail during this phase of the work, the architect is able to simplify project documentation and avoid potentially costly oversights. Custom Designs TSI s staff includes experienced product designers who are capable of creating custom products and components which may be required to address unique project specifications. Additionally, TSI enjoys greater flexibility in production as a result of our diverse manufacturing and supply infrastructure. When SOM (Chicago) Architects, Chang Jo Architects, and Artec Consultants determined the construction design for the LG Arts Center in Seoul, South Korea, they knew they wanted a finished wood surface on the face of all risers. With structural and acoustic considerations in mind, the final design included a build-out of more than 2 from the structural concrete. TSI developed a unique riser mount connection that provided excellent strength, ease of installation, and elegant design. During the construction of the Kodak Theater, the home of the Academy Awards, architect David Rockwell and theater consultants, Theatre Projects Consultants, requested that TSI be responsible for developing cast glass sculptures for the end panels of the chairs and for the wall panels. In response, TSI identified and commissioned the services of a glass artist capable of producing the required complicated molds necessary to cast these beautiful sculptures. These unique glass sculptures, which are back lit, can be seen in the custom end panels of the chairs and in the panels located on the walls of the room. Construction Documents As the architectural working drawings are finalized, TSI will update the chair layout and produce drawings to reflect all changes implemented since the preliminary documentation. TSI will also finalize the seating specifications in any format required by the architect to insure consistency with the rest of the contract documents. This will allow the architect to include the specifications and drawings in the construction documents without further work. Project Management Every project awarded to TSI, regardless of size, will be assigned to a dedicated project manager who ensures that every detail of the contract receives full attention. The shop drawing submission will be completed in accordance to the project requirements and will take into consideration every detail unique to the project. It will include the exact location of every chair and table, installation details, the selected fabric and other appropriate details and options that are included in the contract. Once the shop drawing submittal is approved, TSI will schedule the production of the order in coordination with the project schedule. If the installation is included in TSI s contract, it will always be accomplished by a factory-trained installer and, in cases where necessary, under the supervision of TSI factory representatives. Every portion of this work will be accomplished under the direct supervision of one or more of the TSI principals who, along with the project manager, will always be available to clarify any questions or discuss any aspect of the project with the project leaders. The TSI design staff is anxious to work with you on your next lecture project. 10 Planning, Installation & Specification Manual Lecture Seating

39 Lecture Seating Maintenance Instructions All Lecture Seating components are designed and built for years of reliable service. The durability and beauty of the seating and tables will however, be greatly enhanced with proper care and inspection, as described below. Each project will be provided with an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Manual which will describe in detail the maintenance measures to be taken by onsite personnel. For more information on the care of the veneer and fabric components of your product, please refer to the Finishes section of the Theatre Solutions binder. Preventative Maintenance Inspection and Cleaning In the first year after the original installation, it is recommended that the Seat/Table Supports be inspected quarterly to insure that they remain secure to the floor, and that the chairs remain tight to the swing arms. After the first year, this inspection interval can become longer, but should never exceed 6 months. Lubrication There are no components in the Lecture Seating product which require lubrication. Periodic Readjustment Besides inspecting for loose screw attachments, there should not be any routine need for readjustment. If, however, a loose connection is discovered, please refer to the appropriate drawing and instructions for installing the subject component. These drawings and instructions can be found in the O&M Manual. Corrective Maintenance All Lecture Seating components have been designed and tested to achieve optimum performance and durability. In general, onsite maintenance personnel can provide the appropriate service to correct problems if they have the necessary spare parts and installation instructions. Troubleshooting In the event that a problem with the performance or finish of the Lecture Seating product occurs, it is often possible for immediate on-site remedies. TSI recommends that any loose component should be inspected for any visible evidence of breakage. If evidence is found, the part should be immediately replaced. If there is no evidence of breakage, the attachment hardware should be checked to insure tightness. Obtaining Replacement Parts A complete list of spare parts provided with the original installation is included in the O&M Manual. If any additional parts are required, simply contact Theatre Solutions and refer to the appropriate part number or the description listed in a drawing depicting the component. 44 Planning Information Theatre Solutions offers a variety of services designed to help in the planning and successful completion of any project requiring the use of fixed seating. It will include the exact location of every chair, installation details, the selected fabric and other appropriate details and options that are included in the contract. The TSI design staff is anxious to work with you on your next courtroom project. Jury Base Seating Planning, Installation & Specification Manual 43

Insert the column (B) into the base (A) and slide the two-piece column shroud (C) over the column. 4. When installing the Forum chair, connect the mechanism (D) to the bottom of the chair using four 1/4-20 x 1 pan head machine screws, four flat washers, and four lock washers. See Bottom View on Figure 26 for correct placement location of the mechanism on the chair. Note that the Aeron chair has an integrated mechanism, so assembly is not required. 5. Gently place the chair (E) over the column, insuring proper directional orientation. After confirming correct alignment, apply a load to center of the chair in order to assure full engagement of tapered connections between mechanism, column, and base. 6. Tighten all floor attachments securely. Adjust the column shroud (C) to hide the steel cylinder (B). Jury Base Seating Installation Instructions 67

73 Maintenance Instructions All Jury Base chairs are designed and built for years of reliable service. The durability and beauty of the chair will however, be greatly enhanced with proper care and inspection, as described below. Each project will be provided with an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Manual which will describe in detail the maintenance measures to be taken by onsite personnel. For more information on the care of the veneer and fabric components of your product, please refer to the Finishes section of the Theatre Solutions binder. Preventative Maintenance Inspection and Cleaning In the first year after the original installation, it is recommended that the chairs be inspected quarterly to insure that all chairs remain secure to the floor, and that the seats and backs remain tight to the leg frames. After the first year, this inspection interval can become longer, but should never exceed 6 months. Lubrication There are no components in the Jury Base chair which require lubrication. Periodic Readjustment Besides inspecting for loose screw attachments, there should not be any routine need for readjustment. If, however, a loose connection is discovered, please refer to the appropriate drawing and instructions for installing the subject component. These drawings and instructions can be found in the O&M Manual. Corrective Maintenance All Jury Base chairs have been designed and tested to achieve optimum performance and durability. In general, onsite maintenance personnel can provide the appropriate service to correct problems if they have the necessary spare parts and installation instructions. Troubleshooting In the event that a problem with the performance or finish of the chair occurs, it is often possible for immediate on-site remedies. Service Calls For service work beyond that executed by building user, contact Theatre Solutions and we will assist in arranging for a visit by qualified technicians. Shipping Back to Theatre Solutions Prior to returning any component part(s) to Theatre Solutions, please contact us by phone or fax for instructions on packaging and shipment method. 72 Installation Instructions Jury Base Seating
