3 Our Goal Make Massachusetts the thriving hub of robotics, automation, and autonomous vehicles for the world.

4 A New Innovative Robotics Hub At the nexus a new, non-profit, independent entity (MassRobotics) with the following objectives: Stimulate Economic growth of the robotics technology base in MA SPACE Foster robotic/automation/autonomous vehicle startups Support existing regional robotics industry Facilitate collaboration of industry with regulatory/certification authorities Feed, grow, and sustain the regional robotics test sites Capture & lead the burgeoning UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) industry at a national level. Provide new level of hands-on STEM Education in MA AIR LAND School-age hands-on workshops, classes, competitions for all aspects of robotic systems (e.g. coding, electronics, math, physics, building, testing, flying) Adult education, community engagement, and public awareness (e.g. workshops, classes, talks, hobby/maker-space) SEA

5 What is MassRobotics? An NFP organization which provides world-class shared infrastructure and support to its members. A mixed-use innovation space which combines the best of: startup co-working incubator community maker-space government policy, oversight youth STEM education center adult education center academic lab corporate research park...to enable innovation, support, and learning of all these groups at their intersection....to provide many points of entry into the center for diversity of thought & background.

23 Terminology 1.) invitation accelerator: Short duration program to help early startups get moving. Selection based on business area & startup s probability of success. Often provides small funding, working space, mentoring, etc in exchange for equity ) invitation incubator: Longer term program to help startups grow. Similar to previous but tends to be single industry focused and grow company until it s sold or spun out as profitable business. Essentially a VC firm that keeps its portfolio physically on site ) internal incubator: Similar to previous, but venture ideas are grown internally. No outside business ideas welcome ) university incubator: Program to help startups grow with funding, workspace, mentoring. No equity. Open only to faculty and students ) open coworking space: Managed office space for entrepreneurial individuals or small companies. In exchange for rent provides professional office facilities & resources. Often has community building, socializing, networking benefits as well ) curated coworking space: Similar to previous, but curates resident companies to focus on some common industry or work style. Often has community building benefits and industry specific shared equipment (lab facilities, manufacturing facilities) ) makerspace: Community workshop where people meet, socialize, collaborate, and build things (often in the areas of computing, machining, technology, science, and digital art).
