BREWING ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT The Buffalo Niagara Brewers Association (BNBA) represents ~20 breweries and/or brewpubs in the Buffalo Niagara Region and exists to unify the Buffalo Niagara craft beer community in order to increase regional sales of craft beer through promotions, marketing, public awareness, consumer education, and to monitor and assure a thriving craft beer and brewing industry within the region. Members of the BNBA will discuss the vision, mission and goals of the organization. The members will also describe their role in revitalizing business districts and neighborhoods through local purchasing, the repurposing old buildings in otherwise depressed districts and the establishment of restaurants or retail sites that sell beer.
WHAT IS THE BUFFALO NIAGARA BREWERS ASSOCIATION? The Buffalo Niagara Brewers Association formed in 2013 as a NYS non-profit during a renaissance in our region s craft brewing industry that has seen the rebirth of breweries, brewpubs, barley growing, hop production, and the re-establishment of malt houses. Our mission is to restore and preserve Buffalo Niagara s brewing heritage and to unite those who make local beer with those who love it. The Association achieves this by: Educating the public about the importance of locally made craft beer Organizing and hosting events such as (1) Buffalo Beer Week, (2) the Buffalo Brewers Fest at Canalside, (3) Farm-to-Pint Week, and (4) monthly Meet the Brewers Nights Partnering with local agriculture, distributors, retailers, pubs, associations to create prominent events that raises visibility and promotes tourism to the region Growing the regional enthusiast base via our consumer-facing Buffalo Beer League Partnering with state and local organizations willing to help the BNBA raise awareness about local craft beer

In the more than 10 years since the brewery opened, Brooklyn beer has become a popular and successful brand, and Williamsburg has grown into one of New York City s hottest residential neighborhoods. [Brooklyn Brewing] helped make Williamsburg hip sponsoring block parties and music festivals and opening the brewery to tours and Friday night happy hours. Brooklyn Brewery has done more than build a profitable business; they have played an integral role in revitalizing Williamsburg and fostering Brooklyn s renaissance. In doing so their public-spirited brewery has become part of Brooklyn s identity. - Michael R. Bloomberg, from Beer School.
LODO -- home to Wynkoop Brewing Company where the LoDo neighborhood began. In 1988, a band of urban pioneers, notably among them Colorado Governor, John Hickenlooper, took a shine to an unlikely building at the corner of 18th and Wynkoop. They wanted to brew beer and foster community. The place and the pioneers were an immediate success. The small-batch beers and the hearty fare replicated an authentic public house. -from Wynkoop Brewery website
What suburbia cries for are the means for people to gather easily, inexpensively, regularly, and pleasurably a place on the corner, real life alternatives to television, easy escapes from the cabin fever of marriage and family life that do not necessitate getting into an automobile. Ray Oldenburg, The Great Good Space
