A1: Heatcraft s latest product in our walk-in unit cooler portfolio the Slim Contour unit cooler is an innovative new product with a very low profile that maximizes storage space within a walk-in cooler and incorporates design features that enhance serviceability. The design integrates an advanced air mover with a modular, high strength resin housing and a refrigeration duty optimized small diameter coil design to provide a maximum cooling performance with a ultra low height of 11. Q2: WHY WAS THIS PRODUCT DEVELOPED? A2: Foodservice operators have always struggled with the amount of space taken up by traditional walk-in unit coolers. These units often take up valuable storage space within a walk-in cooler, and in addition, have a drain line that extends up to four to six inches beneath the unit that further interferes with storage and is often damaged or broken as a result. Servicing existing units is often also a challenge as it is not easy to access the coil and drain pan for cleaning with traditional walk-in unit coolers. Given the increased focused on food safety, it is critical that foodservice operators be able to clean and service the unit in an easy and quick manner. The Slim Contour unit cooler was designed to specifically address these customer needs. 2
Q3: WHAT ARE THE KEY BENEFITS OF THIS PRODUCT? A3: The Slim Contour unit cooler is designed to maximize storage space and improve serviceability of walkin coolers. Reduced Unit Height: The Slim Contour unit not only has a low unit height of 11, but couples that with a drain line design that comes straight out of the unit and thus not in the way of foodservice operators. Improved Serviceability:The Slim Contour units are a hybrid design, made from high strength resin housings and metal, are modular and are easily removed to expose the coil and drain pan for easy cleaning. Modular, Removable air mover cassette: Allows for easier access to coils and drain pan for for cleaning. Cassettes can be taken to a warmer environment for motor servicing. Removable fan guards: The fan guards are also removable for easy cleaning and are dishwasher safe. Mechanical and Electrical Service components on same side: Allows for easier and faster service and installation with access to all critical electrical and mechanical components on one side. 3
Q4: HOW DOES THE HEIGHT COMPARE TO THAT OF A STANDARD UNIT? A4: Dimensional comparison of the Slim Contour unit cooler and a standard low profile unit is shown below: At 11 the Slim Contour unit cooler is about 5 lower in height than a standard unit cooler. When incorporating the drain line, it is about a 10 reduction in height vs. the standard unit Q5: WHAT OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE WITH THIS PRODUCT? A5: The unit is available with the following options: Factory Mounted Components o Liquid solenoid valve o TXV o Heatcraft Beacon II Refrigeration System Q6: HOW DOES THE CAPACITY COMPARE WITH THE CURRENT PRODUCTS? A6: The capacity of the Slim Contour unit cooler is comparable to the capacity of our existing Walk-in unit cooler products. A summary of the capacity points for our Slim Contour unit cooler and Low Profile and Center Mount unit coolers is shown below. 4
Q7: ARE THESE UNITS AVAILABLE FOR LOW TEMPERATURE APPLICATIONS? A7: The first phase of the product release of the Slim Contour unit cooler will be for medium temperature applications using air defrost. Q8: WILL THERE BE A CHALLENGE BRAZING WITH THE ABS RESIN? A8: The unit is a hybrid design of metal and ABS resin. As such, the key structural and refrigeration connections are mounted to the metal structure. For brazing operations the ABS side panel can be removed as shown below, leaving only metal components in the surrounding area and no ABS components that will be exposed to the heat. Q9: WHAT ARE THE HOUSINGS MADE FROM? HOW DURABLE IS THIS MATERIAL IN A COLD ROOM ENVIRONMENT? A9: The unit is a hybrid design incorporating metal and ABS resin. Metal components are used to provide structural support and the ABS resin is used in the housing and side panels to house the motor and air channels. The ABS resin is a durable material that is used commonly in walk-in cooler and freezer applications in Europe and Australia. The ABS resin material chosen has a 21 CFR rating for NSF which qualifies it to be in splash zone. 5
Q10: WHEN WOULD I USE THE SLIM CONTOUR UNIT COOLER VS. EITHER THE STANDARD LOW PROFILE UNIT COOLER OR A CENTER MOUNT DESIGN? A10: The Slim Contour unit cooler builds to our existing portfolio of walk-in unit coolers by providing additional functionality not currently available with existing low profile unit coolers or center mount products. A summary of the features and advantages of each product is shown in the table below: Low Profile Slim Contour Center Mount The industry standard for walk-in cooler applications. Offering the broadest capacity range, from 4,000 to 37,000 BTUH, the low profile unit cooler is designed for maximum air flow and cooling capacity inside a walk-in cooler. Optimized for air defrost (medium temperature) applications, the Slim Contour unit cooler is ideally suited for installations where storage space is critical and a higher pull down capability is desired. Available in air or electric defrost, ideal for tight storage situations because they are ceiling mount and have a height of less than 9 allowing for maximum headroom in a cooler. The center mount design provides a moderated, evenly distributed air flow throughout the box. Q11: HOW EASY IS IT TO REMOVE THESE CASSETTES? A11: The modular cassettes are easy to remove, as depicted in the pictorial below. Q12: IS THIS A UNIQUE MOTOR? WHERE WILL I BE ABLE TO FIND A REPLACEMENT? A12: The air mover used for the Slim Contour unit cooler is an external rotor motor with an integrated blower wheel. While not commonly used in refrigeration applications this type of motor is common in HVAC applications. Replacement motors will be available via our InterLink service parts organization initially and ultimately through our refrigeration wholesale distribution partners. InterLink can be reached at or via at interlinkparts@heatcraftrpd.com Q13: CAN I REPLACE THE CASSETTE INSTEAD OF REPLACING THE MOTOR? A13: Replacing the cassette in lieu of the motor is an option that will be available to customers. This affords the customer or service contractor an easier service option, as cassettes can be swapped out in less than five minutes. A restaurant operator can potentially store these cassettes at their location and have the ability to replace cassettes immediately, thus maintaining walk-in cooler temperatures and product integrity. 6
Q14: DO I NEED TO USE SPECIAL CLEANERS TO CLEAN THE PANELS AND HOUSING? No special cleaners are required. Standard cleaners used to clean traditional unit coolers work well and do not harm the panels or housings. Q15: HOW IS THE SLIM CONTOUR UNIT COOLER PRICED COMPARED TO OTHER WALK-IN UNIT COOLERS? A15: The Slim Contour unit cooler has unique design and serviceability features that are ideally suited for customers that require additional space within the walk-in, and require the air throw and pull down capacity to be maintained. As such, the Slim Contour unit cooler is competitively priced with Heatcraft s existing portfolio of walk-in unit coolers. The pricing of the unit coolers is shown below Model Capacity No. of Fans Price ULA041 4,100 1 $2,250 ULA050 5,000 1 $2,375 ULA072 7,200 2 $3,500 ULA100 10,000 2 $3,950 ULA132 13,200 3 $4,650 ULA153 15,300 3 $5,625 Q16: DO THE SLIM CONTOUR UNIT COOLER BENEFITS INCLUDE ENERGY EFFICIENCY OR SUSTAINABILITY FEATURES? A16: The Slim Contour comes with EC (Electronically Commutative) motors standard and an optimized small diameter coil. The coil reduces refrigerant required by up to 42%, compared to standard walk-in unit coolers. The ABS housing components are also 100% recyclable. Q17. CAN YOU CLEAN THE GRILL? A17. The grill can be cleaned by simply removing it from the cassette. Because it is made out of the same plastic as in current walk-in unit coolers, you can use your standard cleaning methods to remove dirt & grime, and is durable enough to be placed in the dishwasher. 7
