4 Financial Aid Vision The Office of Student Support (OSS) is committed to maintaining quality and professional standards in supporting students academic endeavors. Students, with our full dedication and financial/social help, will feel supported, cared for, and will be enthusiastically engaged in the process of their development and learning. 5 Office of Student Support Services Zayed University provides its students with a number of financial support opportunities. These opportunities are exclusively focused on supporting students whose financial conditions may prevent them from continuing their university education. The Office of Student Support/Office of Student Affairs receives the applications and ensures that any support given is in compliance with the university s rules and regulations. Financial support decisions are taken according to strict guidelines and availability of resources. 6 Conditions for obtaining Financial Aid 1. Applicant must have UAE passport and family booklet or a child of an Emerita mother. 2. Applicant meets ZU s attendance requirement. 3. Applicant s parents/guardians are aware of the financial support application prior to any support being provided. 4. Applications for financial support are submitted with the appropriate time frame and applications contain all the required documents. 5. Applicants should not be receiving financial support or regular assistance from any other association. 6. The average income per capital should not be over DHS in order to receive a laptop. 7. The average income per capital should not be over DHS in order to receive an ipad. 8. The average income per capital should not be over DHS in order to receive monthly salary. 9. The availability of financial resources. Laptop Requirements: 1. To receive the laptop, the student should be enrolled at any college of the university. 2. A Student is eligible to apply to obtain a laptop ONLY ONCE. 3. The Office of Student Support does not cover the cost of repairs or replacement of laptops. Each student is responsible for their laptop. 4. The laptop granted to the student shall be considered as his/her own property. 5. The Student who fails to collect her/ his laptop within the official time frame (a week from receiving the notification ) will forfeit that laptop for another student. In case of repeated failure to collect the laptop within the fixed time frame without a convincing excuse, the student s name will be deleted from the financial aid list(s). ipad Requirements: 1. 7 Monthly Salary Requirements: 1. Monthly Salary applications shall be ONLY submitted at the beginning of every academic year. 2. The Student who fails to collect their salary within the official time frame (a week from receiving the notification ) will forfeit that month s salary. In case of repeated failure to collect the salary within the fixed time frame without a convincing excuse, the student s name will be deleted from the financial aid list(s). 3. To be eligible for a salary payment, a student should not have any other regular income. 4. The name of the student who fails to renew his / her financial aid application annually will be removed from financial aid support. 5. The monthly salary can ONLY be paid to the student; no other person may collect the salary. 6. Information regarding students eligibility for financial aid shall be ONLY disclosed in the presence of the student. 7. The Office of Student Support shall review and update students files, monthly and annually, to confirm the academic status of students. Students failing to meet academic requirements will no longer be entitled to financial support. 8. The Office of Student Support opens bank accounts for eligible students to deposit their monthly salaries. 9. The name of the student who fails to open a bank account and does not provide the office with the account number within a month from the committee s approval will be removed from the list. 10. Financial aid shall be suspended in the following cases: a. If the student drops out or discontinues his/her academic study for any reason. b. If the student exceeds the 2-year maximum period at ABP (Academic Bridge Program) for English language. c. If the student gets less than 2 in his/her GPA. Excluded from item (c): New students because they do not yet have a GPA. 5

8 Required Documents Documents Required for Obtaining Financial Aids: 1. A completed financial aid form 2. Passport size photo of the student 3. Copy of the student Zayed University ID 4. Valid copy of the student s passport 5. Valid copy of the student national ID 6. Copy of the family national identity booklet 7. Valid copy of the guardian s passport 8. Valid copy of the guardian s national ID 9. Guardian s salary slip (In case the guardian is not working, please provide non employment certificate) 10. In case of divorced or widow mother, a certificate from the court should be brought to prove the mother is not married 11. Current bank statement (including 6 previous months) 12. Certificate from the Ministry of Social Affairs confirming whether you are receiving a salary from them or not 13. Certificate from the Land Department 14. Certificate from the Department of Economics 15. The leasing contract 16. Official loan documents including monthly installments 17. In case of death of the father, death and heritage certificates of the father 18. The university has the right to ask the student for any additional documents or to exempt him/her from some of the above mentioned documents In case of approval or disapproval, the following points, related to personal debt, should be considered: Due date of debt Details of loan provider (must be an official source like banks) Debt repayment terms The applicant should prove to the committee his/her inability to repay the debt Students with Emirati mothers: 1. Copy of the mother s passport 2. Copy of the mother s national identity booklet 3. Copy of all Emirates ID of all un-married family members 6

9 Frequently Asked Questions Is it mandatory to check and read s sent by the Office of Student Support? Yes, as is the official medium for communication, students have to follow section instructions sent via . What should I do if the financial aid is suspended? In case of suspension, you must check with the Office of Student Support as to why support has been suspended. Should the required documents for the financial aid be updated? Yes, data has to be updated annually. What happens if data update is delayed? The financial aid is suspended. Does receipt of application guarantee that financial support will be given? No, receipt means only that the concerned committee reviews student circumstances to decide whether he/she is eligible for the aid or not. What happens if the student does not attend to receive his/her monthly salary at the fixed date and time announced by the Office of Student Support? If the student does not attend to receive his/her monthly salary for two consecutive months on the set date, his/her name will be deleted from the financial aid program. What happens if the Office of Student Support discovers that the student receives a salary from different entities? In this case, the student must pay back all the money received from the Office of Student Support. Does the student need to renew his/her financial aid application every year? Yes, applications must be renewed annually, if not, the student s name will be deleted from the financial aid program. Can I receive a new laptop if I ever lose or damage mine? No, laptops are only given once during your studies at the University. In case of failure, will my laptop be fixed or replaced? No, the Office of Student Support will not pay for any repair or replacement. Do I keep my laptop after graduation? Yes, laptops become the property of the student, and need not be returned. Do I keep my ipad after graduation? Yes, ipads become the property of the student, and need not be returned. Is it possible to deposit the monthly salary of the student in the guardian s bank account? No, the bank account should be under the student name. 7

11 A new page will open. Step 4: Fill all the requested fields and click on Insert button. Notes: Select the passport expiry date from the small calendar that pops up. If you are requested to enter a number of amount please write it in English (i.e.:478328). If you don t have the requested info please write 0 and you can edit it later. Don t write {, or.} in any number field. If the accommodation type is owned or other please write 0 for Amount per year. Step 4 Note: if you need to correct any information please click on Update Information button. Step 5: Click on My Documents. Step 5 9

Step 7: Write the name of the document, select the type of the document that you want to upload, click on + to select the file and click on Insert button to upload the file. Step 7 Note: Repeat steps 6 and 7 to upload another document. After you have uploaded the entire required documents, please move on to step 8. 10

14 A new page will open. Step 10: answer the questions and select the type of Aid that you are applying for then click on Apply for A Financial Aid to submit your request. Step 12 A new page will open. Note: You will get a note informing you that the appliation has been submitted Apply for A Financial Aid Operation Successul. Note: when you submit an application, the designated staff will be notified. Please check this section for more information regarding your request. If the staff needs more information or documents you will be contacted via your Zayed University account. 12

You can edit your application. Your application is viewed by the Office of Student Support and is in the process of being studied. You cannot edit your application at this point. Your application is viewed, analyzed and been voted on by the committee. The decision is made and can be viewed in the comment and approved. You cannot edit your application at this point. 15
