Wiber Megaband Outperforms old fashioned Broadband just like Broadband outperformed Dial-Up BACKGROUND INFORMATION THE MISSION Click4Internet was formed in 2008 to market a new high speed, high capacity internet service to users who are dissatisfied with poor results from terrestrial phone line based internet connections, users who cannot get any terrestrial broadband connectivity at all, and businesses who are unable to get suitable broadband performance to suit their needs due to the very high cost of high performance commercial leased lines. WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY Most people put their lives in the hands of wireless technology on a regular basis and so whether they realise it or not they already have complete faith in it. When travelling on an aeroplane or at sea, when co-ordinating the police, fire or ambulance service, or the army, navy or air force, whether controlling moon landings or operating remote vehicles on Mars, wireless technology is the only answer and if setup and run correctly it works well enough for your life to depend on it in many cases. Every day another way is found of using wireless technology instead of a wire and the whole world is quickly moving to wireless. THE SYSTEM The innovative combination of Fibre-Optics and the latest generation of Wireless Technology led to the development of HPI s advanced Wireless Fibre or Wiber network which Click4Internet can now offer to its customers. This offers unbeatable, next generation Fibre-Optic style performance, but with the lower costs and increased flexibility of wireless distribution no expensive underground cables are required for Wiber. There is no need to have a phone line at all with Wiber and so the expense of phone line installation, rental and usage is avoided. This new Wiber technology outperforms other systems by such a large margin that calling it broadband does not do it justice, so we call our system Megaband internet. Wiber Megaband offers : Unbeatable Download performance (Mb/s) far better than the rest Unbeatable Upload performance (Mb/s) many times better than the rest Unbeatable Latency (Ms) several times better than the rest Consistent performance that is not affected by distance everyone gets the same wherever they are Value for money you get what you pay for and not a fraction of what you are paying for Fibre-Optic performance (equivalent to FTTC) Access to the cheapest available telephone calls with no line rental to pay

THE COMPETITION THE TERRESTRIAL PHONE NETWORK The ageing and outdated UK telephone network is simply not up to providing the performance that most people want today. Even the most modern telephone exchanges in major cities are unable to offer truly impressive internet performance and the situation in ordinary towns and rural areas is far worse with many people suffering poor connections that run at under 5 Mb/s download capacity and take over 50 milliseconds to transit data. This may sound fast but in data terms it is extremely poor and if you use a connection like this you have probably found that your web surfing can be slow, frustrating and unreliable. What s more the upload performance of these old terrestrial networks is a small fraction of the download so not only do users suffer poor downloads but they suffer very poor uploads, often well under 0.5 Mb/s. This makes simple tasks like sharing holiday photos with friends or uploading them to a social networking site a slow and laborious process and anything more challenging like networking, connecting to a server (VPN) or online gaming may not work at all. Even simple things like making a phone call using VoIP can prove problematic, unreliable or in many cases not work at all. This is the main reason that free or low cost telephone calling over the internet (VoIP) has not taken off in the UK. If you have tried to use a traditional broadband internet connection for Telephone calls (VoIP), VPN (connections to your office), Online Gaming, Video Conferencing, or Data Connectivity / Networking, then you will no doubt have been frustrated as these applications often fail, disconnect, or simply don t work at all. In fact the complicated manner in which ADSL/DSL modems log on and authenticate themselves via the phone line means that they HAVE TO DISCONNECT and re-connect again every few hours or sometimes even more frequently, so it is, by definition, impossible to maintain a continuous connection using ADSL. The fundamental problem is that old fashioned telephone lines were never designed for the internet and the only way to get internet connections to work at all is to use complicated ADSL / DSL systems where you have a modem that converts data into a special format for sending down an old fashioned phone line, then another modem converts it back again at the other end, in the telephone exchange. This is far from ideal and the conversion process itself can be inefficient and unreliable for rural users. Add to this large signal losses from ageing underground cables and performance changes due to weather conditions affecting the telephone cables, and it s easy to see why things often don t work very well. In fact it is well known that if your telephone line takes more than a mile or so to get to the telephone exchange (as in many rural areas), then you may even get no broadband at all because so much signal is lost that there is not enough left to operate. Many of these old telephone lines suffer from water ingress so that in wet weather the signal losses are far worse. All in all it is easy to picture an old fashioned, damp, ageing system that is struggling to offer even the most basic connectivity.

The UK Government seems to roughly define broadband as meaning connectivity performing at 2 Mb/s download or more. There are a great many people who get well under 2 Mb/s download and so it could be argued that these users are not actually receiving broadband at all, even though they are paying their ISP for a broadband service. The great many users in this situation (25% of the Isle of Wight for example) often refer to what they are getting as bad-band rather than broadband. The problem is that broadband has no real meaning it seems which is why so many users have lost confidence in it. Whether you have a frustratingly poor 2 Mb/s download with 0.2 Mb/s upload and a latency of over 100 Ms, or a just about acceptable 6 Mb/s download with 0.5 Mb/s upload and a latency of 50 Ms, it is still called broadband. We think this is confusing and misleading for users as nobody knows what they should expect or what they will get. The latest versions of DSL called ADSL2 (ADSL2+) claim to offer up to 24 Mb/s downloads however in reality very few users will experience anything close to this, just as very few users experienced the up to 8 Mb/s downloads from previous ADSL systems. Performance graphs show that if the phone line between you and your nearest exchange is between 3 km and 4 km long then you will get little if any improvement between ADSL and ADSL2 (ADSL2+) and if it is over 4 km then there will be no improvement at all. This means that when rural exchanges do get upgraded to ADSL/ADSL2+ there are a significant number of people who will see no improvement at all and these people are almost certainly the ones who had the poorest performance in the first place. It is often a case of those who already had 4 Mb/s downloads or more will get better performance and those who had less than 4 Mb/s downloads will see little change and possibly a less reliable connection. Some technical experts argue that ADSL2 (ADSL2+) can even make things worse for those who are over 4 km from the exchange as these modems are more prone to disconnecting more frequently as they struggle to negotiate with the exchange and this makes the connection less reliable. Phone lines do not run as the crow flies and often take seemingly bizarre routes, twisting and turning, doubling back etc This means that many users who are physically less than 3 Km from the exchange may be well over 4 Km from the exchange in terms of line length. Whatever your opinion on ADSL/ADSL2 (ADSL2+) it certainly offers very limited upload capacity and has relatively high latency that deteriorates with network load. This means that as the network gets busy the latency gets worse which can affect networking (VPN), Gaming, VoIP, Video Conferencing, and other latency sensitive applications. Another certainty is that no performance guarantees can be given with any ADSL/ADSL2 (ADSL2+) system. People living next door to each other often get significantly different performance and performance from one end of a street to the other can differ massively.

THE COMPETITION MOBILE BROADBAND Mobile phone operators have all tried to offer broadband via mobile phones or a plug in dongle. This has helped some people who had no connectivity from their phone lines, but anyone who has used mobile broadband will know it is erratic and, at the best of times is only suitable for basic domestic use. It has a very small upload capacity and applications such as Telephone calls (VoIP), VPN (connections to your office), Online Gaming, Video Conferencing, and Data Connectivity will not work reliably, if at all. The fundamental problem is the mobile phone networks were designed to take only voice calls and were not designed to move today s large quantities of internet data around efficiently between huge numbers of users. As the demands on these networks grow quickly they are all showing signs that they simply cannot cope with more and more data flow. This results in lower capacity connections and more and more problems and drop outs for users. THE COMPETITION SATELLITE CONNECTIVITY Some people have tried using satellite systems to solve their broadband problems but again these systems have serious shortcomings. The installation and usage costs are very high and the performance is unimpressive. The main problem for satellite systems is the vast distance that the signal has to travel from the earth, into space, and then back again. This journey has to be completed twice every time your computer sends or receives data. This introduces massive data delays which together with high costs make satellite connectivity inappropriate for most situations. It tends only to be used where it is the only option. Typically satellite connections suffer from data transit delays of around 250 milliseconds each way, so it can take 500 milliseconds for your data to travel to the internet and back again. To put this into context, even the worst phone line broadband connection will transit data in around 150 milliseconds, so satellite really is slow by comparison. Although some satellite systems can offer enough download capacity to be usable, most have very limited upload capacity and so are only suitable for basic use.

CLICK4INTERNET AND THE HPI NETWORK Click4Internet uses the new HPI Wiber network which incorporates the latest technology and provides Fibre-Optic style performance (FTTC equivalent) outperforming terrestrial broadband (DSL) connections like ADSL, ADSL2, ADSL2+, FM DSL, SDSL mobile broadband connections, and satellite connections, by a long way. HPI s Wiber technology is specifically designed to move huge amounts of data quickly and efficiently, just like Fibre-Optic cables do. The HPI Wiber system is specifically designed to support Telephone calls (VoIP), VPN (connections to your office), Online Gaming, Video Conferencing, and Data Connectivity and to ensure that these systems work reliably and effectively. HPI s Wiber coverage is growing all the time and includes the Isle of Wight, the Portsmouth, Fareham and Southsea region and extends East to include Parts of Chichester, and The Witterings, Hayling Island and Birdham etc... Conservative estimates put the number of people within the HPI Wiber network coverage envelope at well over 500,000. Wiber Megaband users include businesses and domestic users. Wiber delivers commercial grade connectivity and is therefore especially attractive to companies for internet connectivity, point to point linking, multi site connectivity, and supplying Wi-Fi Hot-Spots for customers in Hotels, Guest houses, Marinas, Restaurants etc WHAT IS THE HPI Wiber NETWORK? The HPI network is private and has at its root two 1 Gigabit Fibre-Optic connections offering the fastest possible data transit times to and from the internet. HPI's engineers are experienced in wireless networking over wide geographical areas and have been operating large wireless networks connecting commercial and domestic users to the internet wirelessly for over 15 years. HOW DO CUSTOMERS GET A Wiber CONNECTION? HPI has a network of base station masts transmitting to fixed receivers usually mounted on the roof at the user's home or business. The receivers are typically tiny about the size of a 2 pint milk carton, so it is easy to fit them discretely into any situation. All installations are completed by qualified antenna installers. There are a wide range of fitting options from chimney mounting, wall mounting and roof/tile mounting, through to suction mounts for windows. All in all it s easier and faster than installing a TV aerial or satellite dish and a good deal smaller. A thin cable is run from the receiver to your computer, Wi-FI router, or network.

HOW DO I CONNECT MY COMPUTER TO A Wiber CONNECTION? Once the receiver has been fitted you will end up with a standard network cable at your premises. This cable can be plugged directly into any computer, laptop, router or network. If you want to distribute the service around your home or office via Wi-Fi then you simply plug our network cable into any Wi-Fi router and this will distribute our service around your premises. We have found that many simple routers are not able to process data fast enough to make the best of our higher capacity products so if you choose a connection with us of over 10 Mb/s you may find that your router causes the connection to run a little slower. This can be solved by installing a Wiber approved router. All our approved routers have been tested to ensure that they can cope with our Wiber Megaband internet performance. IS Wiber THE SAME AS Wi Max? Wiber is NOT the same as the much talked about 'Wi Max' system. Our research shows that 'Wi Max' appears to have serious shortcomings. It is able to deliver some connectivity and was a significant improvement on early Wi-Fi systems, however in reality it is unable to deliver high enough capacity or speed to accommodate anything but basic users' requirements. 'Wi Max' appears, in reality, unable to compete with most modern telephone line based connectivity products from BT and other mainstream terrestrial providers and Wi Max performance falls far behind more advanced high speed, high capacity systems such as Wiber.

HOW MANY GIGS OF DATA WILL I USE EACH MONTH? This is a very hard question to answer as everybody uses the internet for different things of course. As a ROUGH guide though the following will give some idea of how much data is used by common applications: 1 Hour of TV or Video in HIGH QUALITY (iplayer, YouTube, etc ), up to 1.5 Gigs 1 Hour of TV or Video in low quality (iplayer, YouTube, etc ), around 0.4 Gigs Downloading a typical feature film in HD quality generally uses around 2 Gigs Downloading a 60 minute music album in CD quality generally uses around 0.8 Gigs Downloading a 60 minute music album in MP3 HIGH QUALITY uses around 0.1 Gigs 1 Hour of audio (NOT HIGH QUALITY) internet radio or SkyTunes, less than 0.1 Gigs 1 Hour of video calling using Skype uses less than 0.1 Gigs 2 Hours of Online Gaming (e.g. PS3, X-Box Live etc ) uses around 0.1 Gigs 1 Hour of voice only telephone calls using standard VoIP uses less than 0.1 Gigs IMPORTANT : It is easy to use large numbers of Gigs when watching TV or Video using websites like iplayer, YouTube, SkyPlayer etc NOTE : OPERATING SYSTEMS SUCH AS WINDOWS AND PROGRAMS THAT ARE INSTALLED OFTEN ACCESS THE INTERNET AUTOMATICALLY TO CHECK FOR NEW UPDATES AND THEN DOWNLOAD THEM. YOUR COMPUTER MAY HAVE A NUMBER OF PROGRAMS DOING THIS IN THE BACKGROUND AND USING DATA AS A RESULT. WHEN YOU ARE NOT PHYSICALLY USING THE COMPUTER IT MAY STILL BE USING INTERNET DATA IN THIS WAY.

CLICK4INTERNET - HPI Wiber Megaband - KEY BENEFITS ++ The HPI Wiber Megaband network is 100% secure and user connectivity capacity of up to 75 Mb/s both upload and download is facilitated which far exceeds any terrestrial options apart from high cost commercial 'leased line' style connections HPI s Wiber Megaband leaves all DSL/ADSL variants, and many leased lines far behind. ++ The HPI Wiber Megaband network does not require a phone line at all. This removes the cost of installing phone lines and means there is no line rental to pay (terrestrial line rental is around 120 per year, per line with BT for example). ++ The HPI Wiber Megaband network offers very low latency similar to the best 'leased line' services, and equivalent to Fibre-Optic cables (FTTC), and it s around 3 times faster than DSL/ADSL variants. This means that as well as being high capacity, the network is extremely fast making it ideal for VPN, VoIP, Video Links, Group Gaming etc... Our users typically experience ping responses of under 15 milliseconds outstanding performance. ++ The HPI Wiber Megaband network offers continuous linked connectivity and users will not experience the annoying 'log off'/'log on' anomalies so common with DSL/ADSL variants - anomalies which lead to major difficulties and disconnections/interruptions when using VPN/VoIP/Video Links/Gaming. ++ The HPI Wiber Megaband network is specifically designed to facilitate latency sensitive applications such as VoIP/VPN/Video Link/Gaming and does so by carefully managing and synchronising data packets. This sets it apart from other WAN wireless networking, Wi-Fi or terrestrial (ADSL/DSL) systems. ++ The HPI Wiber Megaband network is ideal for internet telephone lines (VoIP). This enables Wiber users to have multiple phone lines at no cost whereas having multiple traditional phone lines costs hundreds of pounds per year. Many businesses pay large sums for ISDN lines to operate their telephones and this cost can be eliminated by using VoIP on a Wiber connection.

++ The HPI Wiber Megaband network is perfect for businesses who want to expand, contract, or increase flexibility. The ability to run reliable and fast VPN connections between home and office gives a great deal of flexibility in the workplace. Directors can work from home using databases, software and telephone connections just as if they were sat in the office. Additional staff can be employed to work from home via VPN and VoIP without having to move to a larger office premises, allowing for easy expansion on a temporary or permanent basis. Businesses can cut costs when times are hard by downsizing their offices and moving some staff to work from home via VPN and VoIP. ++ The HPI Wiber Megaband network offers businesses a uniquely affordable high performance leased line style office to office connectivity solution. Many businesses are forced to use several bonded ADSL/DSL lines in order to get elementary connectivity between offices, limiting what their systems can do. Running cloud applications and other systems between offices can be impossible with ADSL/DSL performance. High Performance commercial leased lines are unaffordable so businesses are forced to operate with degraded office to office networking capabilities. Wiber Megaband solves this problem. ++ The HPI Wiber Megaband network is the fastest and cleanest way to connect. This is because it runs as TCP/IP throughout and does not have to modify, convert or change the data into any other format at any stage. This means that it is effectively like having a network cable from your computer all the way to the internet. Other internet connectivity systems have to convert the data from TCP/IP into another protocol in order to send the data down a phone line, to a satellite, or via a mobile phone or dongle. This creates complications and can create bottlenecks and data loss. Other systems rely on user names and passwords for modems to log on to the network and from time to time they will log off again of course. This causes your connectivity to drop, server links to be broken, VoIP calls to get cut off, Video Links to crash, Games to disconnect, movies or TV streams to freeze. Wiber does not log on or off and does not convert your data into other protocols it leaves your computer as TCP/IP and it travels as TCP/IP and it arrives at destination as TCP/IP. This provides fast, simple, efficient, and trouble free connectivity. ++ The HPI Wiber Megaband network offers connectivity Future Proofing by offering tomorrow s Fibre-Optic style (FTTC) performance today. Just as dial up is now considered outdated and useless compared to broadband, soon the relatively poor performance of terrestrial broadband will be unable to keep pace with increasing internet requirements. Those who live in an area that does not have Fibre-Optic connectivity to each street will struggle with connectivity performance. Those who cannot get broadband today are unable to make use of the internet, and in the near future those with today s terrestrial broadband will find an increasing number of situations when their connectivity performance is unacceptable.

Wiber Megaband - Features ++ High Capacity, High Speed Connectivity. Internet connectivity is usually compared in terms of Mb/s this is generally called the 'speed' of the connection. We believe that this is not the right term to use and that actually it is not the speed - it is the capacity. Just like a water pipe, there are 2 variables, the diameter of the pipe is the capacity, and the rate at which the water flows through it is the 'pressure' or speed of flow. The internet is similar, the size of the connection is the capacity and this is measured in Mb/s. ++ Fibre-Optic Equivalent Performance. Our network has at its root two 1 Gigabit Fibre Optic connections that takes our data directly out into the internet using the fastest and most efficient route. This enables Click4Internet to compete with Fibre-Optic lines in terms of performance. We call our network a Wiber network because it combines the best qualities of Wireless and Fibre-Optics. ++ Higher Upload Capacity than the rest. Even the most advanced ADSL/DSL services struggle to reach 2 Mb/s upload capacity and for this you would have to be very close to the latest upgraded telephone exchange. In reality most ADSL/DSL users in rural environments would be doing very well to achieve even 0.5 Mb/s upload, and most rural users actually get less than 50% of this. Click4Internet Wiber Megaband offers market busting upload capacity options starting at 3 Mb/s and running up to 75 Mb/s uploads. ++ Higher Download Capacity than the rest. Even the most advanced ADSL/DSL services struggle to reach 20 Mb/s downloads and in rural areas most users struggle to achieve 2 Mb/s and many suffer 0.25 Mb/s downloads. Click4Internet Wiber Megaband offers market busting download capacity options of up to 75 Mb/s download beating the competition hands down.

++ High Speed Connectivity. Internet speed is measured in terms of 'latency, a bit like the water pressure in a pipe, latency is the time it takes for each piece (packet) of data to travel from the user s computer, out to the internet and then back again. The time it takes for each piece of data (packet) to complete this round trip is called the 'ping' time. Measured in milliseconds, the lower the figure the faster the speed the data is travelling. All standard terrestrial solutions (ADSL/DSL) suffer from higher latency (the data packets take longer to complete their trip), generally giving a ping reading of over 30 milliseconds, with 60+ milliseconds not being uncommon in rural areas. Click4Internet connectivity is between 2 and 4 times as fast typically giving ping readings of under 15 milliseconds. This may sound insignificant but it is the ping/latency that often determines how 'fast' a connection feels to users when surfing the web. This is because the capacity/amount of data travelling whilst surfing the web is sometimes fairly small, so it is the time it takes for the data to get to and from your computer, as opposed to simply the connection capacity, that makes the difference between a connection that feels fast and one that feels slow. As more devices share a connection (offices and homes usually have several computers, PDA s, games consoles) the capacity is split between them but each gets the same fast ping (low latency). Low latency therefore becomes vital in maintaining an impressive connection performance to several devices at once. ++ Flexibility and Distribution of Service. The Click4Internet system offers the same high speed, high capacity, high performance connectivity to users whether they are in urban or rural areas - everyone now has access to the best. Installation costs are a small fraction of 'leased lines' and Wiber Megaband performance is outstanding. ++ Local Focus and Support. Click4Internet and HPI are local companies, we understand our region and we have staff working in the region ready and waiting to solve any issues that may arise. We DO NOT use overseas call centres and we pride ourselves on efficient, reliable and friendly support.
