1. Introduction Congratulation to your new Online Services retrofit kit. We spent quite some effort to provide you with best possible quality whilst keeping the installation for you as easy as possible and therefore hope that you will experience much joy with this product. This document will guide you step by step through the installation. In the case that you unexpectedly run into installation problems, please get in touch with We will then do our best to help you and/or support you in the installation process. Please send us an as detailed as possible problem description. Please also write us your phone number, so that we could give you a ring back. We will get back to you as quick as possible. Please read this instruction manual carefully and follow each step exactly. Please keep in mind that without a mobile data flat rate tariff, operating permanent data services could get expensive very quickly. It is in your responsibility to check the data tariff for the SIM you plan to put in the UTMS Router before first operation. It s difficult to specify the actual amount of data because the monthly transmit volume greatly depend on factors like how long, how far you travel with active data services or if you keep Google Earth always active or not (beside other factors). However, you should plan at least 100 Megabyte of data volume per month. For heavy users this value could well increase to more than 500 Megabytes per month. 2. Limitations We are sorry, but this retrofit kit cannot replace the factory solution 100%. The following limitations do exist: - The mobile signal strength indication bars always show full signal. - 2G/3G (the currently used mobile standard) is static and not updated. - Binding to a MyAudi account is not possible (e.g. it s therefore not possible to transmit navigation destinations between MyAudi and MMI). - Spoken searches for online POIs fail as long as no manual search was performed before (after an ignition switch). - This solution does not provide a WLAN Hotspot. - The consumed data transfer volume cannot be looked up by MMI, but just by Internet Browser. - Other telephone functions are not provided by this retrofit. Hence you will still need a separate mobile phone for any phone calls. - Short messages (SMS) can just be accessed via the Huawei stick Web-Frontend by Browser. Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

A so-called E-certification does not exist for this solution, as it is an external retrofit with no expected influence on any car systems or car electronics (well comparable to external navigation units). A full integration to the on-board electric is not planned. 3. SD Installation In the kit you will find a sealed (normal sized) SD card. To continue with the installation, please now unseal the package around the SD card and turn on the ignition of your car. Please keep in mind, that a return of the software on the SD card will not be possible anymore, as soon as the package seal got broken. A full refund of the paid price in this case will not be possible. Just completed payments for the hardware will be eligible for payback (for more information please take a look in our AGB / withdraw terms and conditions). To now continue, please first wait for the main unit to fully complete booting. Best will be if you take a look on your watch and wait at least 2 minutes after the screen first lit up before you continue. Now please insert the SD card completely in one of the two SD slots of the main unit, until it locks in and wait again at least 30 seconds before pulling it back out. As the next step, please use a computer equipped with a SD slot (or with an external SD card reader connected to it) to look on the SD card, if a file called install.log was created in its main directory. In the case that you cannot find that file on the SD card, please again insert the SD in one of the two SD slots and again wait at least 30 seconds until you check again for the install.log. In that install.log you should find the text Installation successful as soon as the required configuration changes on your main units could all be completed successfully. A message Already installed in that file means, that a previous installation was detected und therefore the installation was not executed again. No worries. For each change on the main unit, there is a backup of its original state stored. In case you encounter any problems after installation, please follow the instruction in chapter Uninstall and/or get in touch with support@ontika.net. After the successful SD card installation, please at least once reset your MMI system before continuing with the next steps (alternatively you can turn of the ignition and keep it turned of for at least 20 minutes, before going on with the next installation steps). You find a car model specific instruction on how to reset the MMI system near the end of this document (the chapter before the last chapter). You can reuse that installation SD for this registered main unit as often as you like (e.g. after a workshop software update) To be on the safe side, it is recommended that you check if the new Main unit software version already was declared suitable on the ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. Web page. We will test new software versions coming out if they work flawlessly with this kit. Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

4. Uninstall (brings the Main unit back to factory defaults) On the installation SD you can find the uninstall file in the folder uninstall. With that you can bring back your Main unit to factory default very easily. solution! Please, if you plan to make use of that uninstall file, ensure to first move away (from the main directory of the SD card) the already existing installer file (which got the same filename) at least, if you ever plan to use the installer again to reinstall this retrofit After you moved away the installer, and moved the uninstaller to that place, please as already before, place that SD card in one of the two Main unit SD-Slots. Please make sure that the Main unit completely finished booting up by waiting at least 2 minutes after the first picture shows up on the screen, before slotting in the SD card. Next please check again if install.log exists in the main directory and content of that file. In that install.log you should now read Successfully uninstalled. If that s the case, the de-installation was completed. In the case that de-installation failed on the first try, please try again by slotting in the SD a second time. Again, please check the content of install.log afterwards. For reverting the other configuration changes in the green menu, please follow the steps shown here in this instruction again, but with an inverted outcome. Finished! Your Main unit is now back on the state before installing this retrofit solution. Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

5. Supported MMI Versions This retrofit required a MMI 3GP System, which can be quite well distinguished by its unique car menu look: The MMI 3GP system still is generally available in following car models: - Audi A4/S4/RS4 Facelift (8K model 2012+) - Audi A5/S5/RS5 (8T/8F model 2012+) - Audi A7/S7/RS7 (4G8 model 2011+) - Audi A6/S6/RS6 (4G model) - Audi A8/S8 (4H model) - Audi Q3 (8U model) - Audi Q5 (8R model 2013+) - Audi Q7 (4L model 2012+) Each retrofit-able MMI 3GP system further got a built in hard drive (jukebox as source selectable in Media ). It is also important that the MMI 3GP system is running on a fairly current software release. Minimum software version 612 (EU), 715 (US), 384 (TW) or 384 (China) is required for this retrofit. Oder versions or other region versions will not work! You can look up your currently running version by navigating to the MMI main menu on to Setup MMI and then Version information. Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

Please scroll down to the second page of this menu as the Version information is not on the first page of the Setup MMI menu screen. Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

Enter Version information by pushing the turning wheel to get to a screen similar to the following. On the screenshot above the version number is for example K0612, in short 612. The heading K stands identifies a customer version installed later. A heading P identifies a production version installed in the factory process when producing that car. In the case that your MMI is running on a version smaller than 612, you first have to update your MMI software (before installing this online services kit). Sorry, but a complete update instruction is out of scope of this document. In case of doubts, please go to an official Audi workshop and let them do the actual software update. By doing so you will gain the advantage of reverse documentation of the new software version to the electronic car history. Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

6. MMI Configuration (green menu) Please use the MMI controls to enter the green menu. You can find a car model specific instruction on how to enter the green menu near the end of this document (chapter before the last chapter). Your MMI screen should now look the same as: Now please navigate the selection to diagnose by turning the big selection wheel. Now your screen should show: Now please navigate into the diagnose sub-menu. Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

To do so, please press down the bit turning wheel once. In the case that you once accidentally clicked wrong, you can always navigate one level up by pressing the RETURN button on your MMI control panel. manual. Please just be careful to not activate or deactivate any functionalities not described in this instruction. If running in any problems, please always use the RETURN button and/or the big turning wheel for getting back to a position you can clearly identify in this instruction Now the screen look: As you can see quite well on the top of this picture, the menu helps you with orientation. You are now located in the first sub-level of the main menu (of the green menu). That is the level diagnose (as you remember, there were quite some different selectable sub-levels in the main menu). Please now click on coding (as in the previous case, by pushing down the big turning wheel) Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

Now you should see the following: Again you can well see that you are now one level down from diagnose, named coding. (/diagnose/coding) With RETURN you could now return back up to diagnose (but this just as a remark, to explain the basic navigation through the green menu and its levels) The picture above already illustrates, where you have to move your selection on. That menu point is called internal_modules_1+2 (it s done again by turning the big turning wheel until your selection highlight is moved to the desired menu point). Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

Now please click to get to the following screen: For retrofitting the online services, the fields Online POI (off), Online Portal (Off), Online Navi (Off) as well as Online POI voice (Off) are relevant. Please navigate to each of these named selection fields and click on it once, by pushing down the turning wheel once. With each click the previously filled checkbox should turn empty (unselected). If you double clicked, please just click again until the corresponding checkbox turned empty (unselected). If SDS (Off) is activated (speed recognition deactivated), you could well use this step to activate the speech recognition by just emptying the corresponding checkbox. With VZA (Off) you can activate the traffic sign display in the navigation screen. Please just keep in mind that all shown traffic signs depend on the information stored in the navigation database. They are not actively detected by a camera. Therefore you may encounter that depending on the actuality of the installed navigation database that some traffic sign information may be wrong, outdated and may not reflect the current real situation. Please pay attention to leave PSD (Off) and ECALL (Off) untouched. Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

Overall the screen should like similar to the following screenshot after you are finished with reconfiguration (the online service relevant parts of it): Goal of the next step is activating the WLAN streaming and the WLAN configuration dialog of the MMI system. For that, now please move up two levels in the menu system. That is done by pushing the RETURN button twice. You should now see the following screen contents: Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

Now please activate settings and enter that sub-menu. The screen should look as: In this case the screenshot also shows where to navigate next - wlan_settings. Please enter that sub-menu. Now please activate the WLAN activation checkbox. The activities are the same as previously with the online services activations. Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

Please navigate on level up and enter tel_settings. In this menu now please check NAD activation (as shown in the picture). This at will activate the Google -logo shown in the lower status bar. Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

Now please step up one level in the menu system and enter ami_aux. Please enter the ami_aux submenu and set there AMI and AMI BT to enabled, in case one or both are currently not enabled. The setting AMI BT is not required for this retrofit, but is generally a good thing as it allows Bluetooth audio streaming (so called A2DP profile). So after activation you will also be able to stream music to your MMI from a Bluetooth A2DP capable device (like a smartphone). Excellent! Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

You are now finished with the hard work in the green menu. To get back to the normal MMI look and feel, just push any MMI function button (e.g. NAV ) on the control panel. Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

7. MMI WLAN - SSID und Password Please keep in mind that the MMI WLAN can just be activated / is just activated if the car ignition is switched on! You reach the WLAN settings after pushing the MEDIA button on the control panel and then the upper right unlabeled button next to the big turning wheel for selecting the source selection. There please select the source with the icon upfront. You should now see the following screen: By entering WLAN connection settings you can configure the WLAN SSID (the name of your WLAN network), as well as the password required to connect to your WLAN. In the case that you already got an active WLAN connection (e.g. for WLAN streaming) to your main unit, the screen will look a bit different, but you can still see or configure your WLAN settings by choosing Settings. There you can also enable or disable WLAN globally (but this woks different to the general WLAN hardware activation procedures described in chapter 2) Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

On the following screenshot you can see what the Settings menu looks like. On the first screenshot you find the menu point for enabling/disabling WLAN. On the next screenshot you see the second page (lower page) of the Settings menu. On that page you find the link that leads on to the WLAN settings (SSID, password). Please remember (or better write down) the WLAN SSID and the WLAN password, as you will need both to complete a later step (when configuring the UMTS Router WLAN connection to the MMI main unit). Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

8. UMTS Router assembly and connections The UMTS Router is shipped to you completely preassembled. It is assembled using following parts: - UMTS Router mainboard in a case - Huawei UMTS Stick - Micro-SD adapter - 4GB micro-sd card Additionally you will find a car power supply in the delivered kit for being used in the lighter socket of your car and to which the included power cable has to be connected to. The other side of the power cable belongs in the matching socket at the UMTS Router. The power cable just fits with one end in the socket of the UMTS Router. After you have connected that side, you just have to plug the other side in the car adapter. For the daily use just please keep in mind that the UMTS Router will not fall to sleep when not being used. The lighter sockets in all factory equipped MMI 3GP cars are ignition switched. So in these cars the power consumption of the running UMTS Router can be well neglected. However, in case you plan to use an alternative power supply, just keep in mind that the Router will drain power as long as it gets. So better make sure that supply is ignition switched. As soon as you successfully connected the Router to power, it will be ready for initial configuration. For doing that, it requires the yellow cable delivered with the whole kit. Plug that yellow Ethernet cable into the fitting socket at the UMTS Router (it just fits one socket). After that, please plug the other side into a fitting Ethernet socket at your computer. Of course, the UTMS Router beside UMTS also support GPRS(GSM) and EDGE for data connections. You are now well prepared for the next step. 9. UMTS Router - WLAN configuration Sorry, but the initial WLAN configuration requires the UTMS Router to be connected to power in your car by using the provided car adapter. Please make sure that your MMI main unit s WLAN is activated (see last chapter) and the UTMS router is powered on. Finally please make sure the on the used Ethernet interface of your computer, DHCP automatic configuration is activated. Your computer that way will automatically get assigned an IP address from the UMTS Router (beside other parameters required for communication). As soon as the Ethernet link turns active (your computer probably got some LEDs near its Ethernet socket, which light up to show an active physical link) you can start to access the web configuration interfaces of the UMTS Router by accessing following URL with your favorite web-browser: Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

You should then directly see the following page: On this page you could now first switch the language, by clicking with your mouse the corresponding flag symbol. You can always check the current WLAN link status by clicking WLAN status. As long as there is no active WLAN link between the UMTS Router and the MMI main unit, the Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

wpa_state will be SCANNNIG (as illustrated by the next screenshot). Now please enter the menu WLAN setup by clicking on that text-link on the left side. If your MMI system is already completely booted up and you got ignition turned on, you should now already see the MMI configured WLAN network name (SSID) appear in the light blue box. In this example case (shown on the picture) that WLAN is named chaos_2.4. If you did not update the factory configured WLAN name, it will start with Audi followed by five numbers which are coming from your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number your unique chassis identification number). Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

In case your WLAN name is not showing up in the list, please check again the previous steps; especially if WLAN has been activated in the WLAN Settings and if you got the ignition turned on. You should also check that you are not too far away from your car as the MMI WLAN reach is quite limited. Please select (activate) the matching WLAN entry now as shown on the screenshot above by clicking on the entry with your mouse. Next please enter the WLAN password (as configured in the MMI WLAN Settings) to the text field below. Maybe open that dialog on the MMI and just read while entering it to avoid misspellings. By clicking Show password you can make the entered password visible. That may help you with checking if you entered the password correctly. At the end of this UMTS router configuration, please do not forget to push the Submit button. It will instruct the Router to store the updated configuration and reconfigure its WLAN interface accordingly. After that you will see a page counting down a couple of seconds and that will finally redirect back to the main menu. After redirection, the reconfiguration is completed. Finally you should then check if the WLAN connection could then be successfully established with the new parameters. You can do this in the WLAN status menu. There it should now show a COMPLETED wpa_status. Otherwise please check again the password or WLAN selection on the WLAN setup page, as the Router still could not successfully establish a WLAN connection to the MMI main unit. In daily operation at the UTMS Router you can also identify an active WLAN connection if the blue LED (at the WLAN stick) shines. If that LED flashes, it s a sign for data being transferred by WLAN. Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

Here a screenshot that shows a successful connection: When visiting the page Status, you can look at some general information about the operating system running on the Router. However, you will not require these for daily operation. It is more meant as further information in case of support requests. Here now an example for a wrongly entered/spelled WLAN password: In that case the UMTS Router repeats a fallback to wpa_status SCANNING with ASSOCIATED or DISCONNECTED in between. Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

After a short time following message will be displayed: Exactly that message is also shown, if no WLAN USB stick has been plugged into the UMTS Router. 10. UMTS Router Mobile network configuration Next you should first put a data enabled SIM card in the UMTS stick. You do that by disconnecting the UMTS router from power, next you unplug the UMTS stick from the UMTS Router and finally you have to pull up the lid on the side with the LED on it. Sorry, but it is not that easy to pull up the lid. Try to use a fingernail for getting under an edge of the lid und then try to gently push it upward away. You should then see the SIM slot, with a schematic drawing neat it showing in which direction the SIM has to be slotted in. When you are finished with that, please just press the lid back on and plug back in the UMTS stick into the USB port of the UMTS router. Finally please connect the Router back with power. As soon as the UTMS Router finished booting and the Ethernet connection came back up (this can take up to one minute), you can reach the Web configuration page provided by the UMTS stick by directing your Web-Browser to: Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

In case there is no SIM slotted in, you will get the following screen: Otherwise, in case you have slotted in a PIN protected SIM, you will receive the following screen: Please enter now the SIM matching PIN code. Please don t remove the check mark Remember My PIN, as in daily use the Router has to work independent from manual interactions. If you remove that check mark, the Router later won t be able to reestablish the internet connection automatically und independently after an ignition cycle. In the case that the inserted SIM does not require any PIN code, it s quite obvious that this step is not required. You should just keep in mind that someone stealing the UMTS Router could take out the Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

unprotected SIM and make use of it on your bill as long as it has not been blocked by the mobile operator! After you have successfully entered your PIN code, you should now have the Huawei UTMS stick main menu in front of you. At this point, please once click on the CONNECT button so that the initial Internet data connection is being established. Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

Entering the Settings menu (click it), you can then check some more settings. If Auto connect on startup is checked, the UMTS stick to always establish an Internet connection when starting (booting) up. You should not uncheck that box when using it for MMI online services. If Auto reconnect when the connection gets lost is checked, the data connection will be directly reestablished in case it gets dropped (e.g. in case of a temporarily/regionally unavailability of the mobile network). So for MMI online services use it s highly advisable to also keep that box untouched (checked). On that page there are two more options, which both deal with data roaming (factory default is both deactivated/unchecked). If Enable even when roaming is checked, the UMTS stick will automatically establish a data connection even when in foreign countries (when your car is driving in a none-home country). Be well aware that this can cause excessive costs so just activate both entries if you plan to drive through foreign countries and want to make use of online services while driving in these countries. Better check the data traffic prices before! If, for a proper function it is of course again highly advisable to check/uncheck both roaming boxes same time and not just one of both. Please make sure that you always click on Apply after any configuration changes as these are then saved and the configuration changes are just then applied. Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

Profile Management allows you to change some basic mobile operator specific settings. The provided Huawei Stick comes with a built-in, big database for all common mobile operators. It is therefore unlikely that you will have to change anything here. Anyways, you should check, if the selected APN is correct for your data service and mobile operator as depending on some specific mobile operators additional costs could arise in case of let s say a not optimal chosen APN (e.g. Vodafone D2 offers event.vodafone.de and web.vodafone.de, which are, depending on the mobile contract, can be priced differently). Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

Please do not change anything under Network Settings. The setting Automatic causes the UMTS stick to always just make use of the available network technology that offers the best data rate. In the menu PIN Management you can change the PIN or deactivate use of the PIN. Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

It is just recommended to do manual changes at this point, if your SIM by now does not got an activated PIN code protection. In this case you can here now assign a new PIN code to your SIM. The UTMS stick Web frontend also offers SMS functionalities that can be easily reached via the main page. However, this installation instruction will not dig deeper at this point, as SMS is not relevant for the MMI online services installation/usage. If you would like to make use of the offered SMS capabilities, the Web frontend is quite intuitive in its use. So you surely will quickly find out its usage. 11. Online-Traffic license activation The service Online-Traffic requires a license activation before it can be actively used. So this chapter will guide you through all required steps to get that service up and running. Please keep in mind that the initially activated license is just valid 3 years. We are extremely sorry, but we cannot guarantee you the use of this service over the whole license timeframe or after. It is currently open if licensing will be possible after that initial 3 years period. It is also unforeseeable for us if in the meantime any changes on the data provider side will result in stricter vehicle identification number checks that could potentially invalidate an already activated license at some point in time (e.g. a filter for non-factory equipped online services cars) After this quite general, but required disclaimer now on to the actual license activation. Please change your MMI to the (traffic) Info screen (e.g. via Navigation->Info). You should now have a similar looking page visible on your screen: Now please select Settings. Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

On this screen please first activate the Online traffic data function by changing it from off to on. Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

As the next step, please move to the lower part of that Settings menu by turning the big turning wheel (if turned in the down direction this will cause a downward page flip). Your screen should now show: Now please click on that Online traffic data license menu point. Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4

Your MMI screen should now show you a menu, where Activate online traffic data is not grayed out (compared to the screenshot above). Please click on that and wait for a response from the server. In the case that the license could not be activated, you will receive a matching message. In this case, please first check if the Audi connect page can be successfully accessed / loads correctly and is displayed on the screen. If that page times out, there an underlying problem with your Internet connection exists (via the UMTS Router / the WLAN etc.). If Audi connect works perfectly, please wait at least minutes before giving the Online-Traffic license activation another try. A direct retry does not help as the license servers seem to have a protection against excessive amounts of connection requests. If you still got problems activating your license after a couple of tries, please get in touch with ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. by sending an to support@ontika.net for further support. After the license has been successfully activated, please reset (instruction for a MMI system reset can be found in the next chapter) your main unit once, in case that the license validity timeframe is not shown as on the picture above. After the reset the license details should be shown correctly. 12. Car model specific key combinations (MMI reset, green menu) In this chapter you find the car model specific guidance on how to reset your MMI system and how to enter the green menu (the hidden menu). Please keep in mind that you sometimes won t succeed first try. Do not give up in that case, but just try multiple times with the shown key combinations. Seite ONTIKA Automotive Ltd. V1.4
