Research included extensive literature review as well as ethnographic fieldwork. Herring, Principal Investigator Sponsor: National Institutes of Health (STTR Phase I) Amount: $100,000 Role: Lead writer for proposal, as well as researcher Status: Not funded The prototype Pneumatic Arm-Lifting device was developed by graduate student, along with Clinical Associate Professor Donald Herring. It is an assistive device to improve the quality of life for people with limb-girdle muscular dystrophy (and other debilitating diseases). The project was extended into a third year (see above), although I resigned my position as Faculty Research Associate. An Ergo-Redesign of Bus Wheelchair Tie-down/Restraints (2002); Vaughn P. Adams (BTI Consulting) and Donald E. Herring (ASU), Co-Principal Investigators Sponsor: National Institutes of Health (SBIR Phase II) Amount: $750,000 Role: Lead writer for proposal, as well as researcher Status: Not funded This project aimed to develop, prototype, and pursue commercial application of the design concepts generated during Phase I (see below).
