3 Understanding of, and Exploration for, Epithermal and Porphyry Deposits: Processes,Transitions and Variations 25 th - 26 th February 2016 Townsville QLD Course Leader Prof. Jeffrey Hedenquist Course Fee* EGRU Member $ 950 AIG Member $1050 Non-EGRU Member $1150 SEG Student Member $ 200 Course Description This 2 day course will review: The nature of active hydrothermal fluids from intrusion-centred volcanic-hydrothermal and geothermal systems The processes that occur in these systems and the exploration insight that comes from their understanding The features of the deposits formed in different epithermal environments The transition to the tops of porphyry deposits The course will consider numerous case studies from around the world. Variations among epithermal deposits, and differences from the end-member (model) characteristics will be discussed, and exploration guidelines highlighted. It is essential to treat every exploration prospect on its own merits, rather than generalizing and missing the mineralised portion of a deposit that does not neatly fit a current, in-vogue model. 4 IOCG and Other Mineral Systems in the World-Class Cloncurry District: New Advances in Exploration and Deposit Understanding This 3 day workshop is a follow up to the highly successful workshop IOCG Deposits: The Cloncurry Experience held in March 2015 in Cloncurry. 16 th - 18 th March 2016 Cloncurry QLD Workshop Convenors Assoc. The workshop will include: Presentations on deposit scale to regional scale geology Sessions on exploration methods, history of and lessons from, various deposits. Field visits and drill core inspections The 2016 workshop will focus on IOCG deposits along with other mineral systems in the Cloncurry District, including Broken Hill type deposits, SEDEX and skarn deposits. Prof. Zhaoshan Chang Course Fee* Per Module All Modules EGRU Member $2000 $4000 AIG Member $2250 $4500 Non-EGRU Member $2500 $5000 Course Description This course has two modules: Spectral Remote Sensing for Mineral Exploration The first module has two parts: the first part aims for the participants to be able to take measurements using SWIR instruments including specterra and PIMA, interpret the spectra, and use the results in exploration; the second part covers applications of spaceborne multispectral and airborne radiometric images for recognition of indications of mineralised land. GIS-based Mapping of Mineral Prospectivity The second module will cover linear methods (such as weights of evidence modeling) and non-linear methods (such as Dempster-Shafer belief functions) for analysis and integration of various layers of spatial geo-exploration datasets for conceptual and predictive mapping of mineral prospectivity.
