1 Collective Investment Schemes Dates: 22, 24, 29 September, 1st October Time: 5pm - 7:30pm Venue: ifs Malta, Pieta Overview The aim of this course is to introduce the attendees to the main concepts and practical aspects relating to Collective Investment Schemes. The course will analyse provisions in the Maltese legal framework underpinning the various types of Collective Investment Scheme licences and including UCITS schemes and AIFMD compliant funds. Target Audience The course content is aimed for all practitioners who require practical information on Collective Investment Schemes and on the most recent legal developments on the subject. 2 Training Programme Session 1 (22nd September, 5:00pm - 7:30pm) Introduction to key concepts We will be analysing the meaning of Collective Investment Scheme as defined under Maltese law and also other concepts inherent to the mechanics of Collective Investment Schemes. Vehicles We shall look at the various vehicles which may be used for the licencing of a Collective Investment Scheme: SICAV; INVCO; Limited Partnership, including reference to the proposed revisions to the Tenth Schedule of the Companies Act; Unit Trust; and Contractual funds. Furthermore, special mention shall be made to the platform type of model, namely the Recognised Incorporated Cell Company structure. Reference will also be made to the recently amended Loan Fund Rules and the Property Fund Policy. Session 2 (24th September, 5:00pm - 7:30pm) Officers: We will look into the role, responsibilities and duties of the officers appointed by a Collective Investment Scheme: Directors Compliance Officers Money Laundering and Reporting Officer Service Providers: Here we will analyse the role, responsibilities and duties of the service providers appointed to a Collective Investment Scheme: Administrators Custodians Auditors Investment Manager We shall also look into the concept of self-managed funds and the supplementary requirements applicable to such Funds.

4 Speaker Kurt Hyzler B.A., LL.M. (Lond.), LL.D. Kurt graduated Doctor of Laws from the University of Malta in 2006 after submitting a doctoral thesis entitled The Principle of Pari Passu in Corporate Insolvency Law. Kurt was awarded the Chevening Scholarship in 2006 in order to further his studies at Queen Mary University London where in 2007 he obtained a Master of Law degree from the University of London in Banking and Finance Law after sitting for examinations in Company Law, International Finance Law, Financial Services Law and Corporate Insolvency Law. Kurt started his professional career with GVTH Advocates in 2007 and proceeded to join Simon Tortell and Associates in Kurt joined CSB Group in With over 7 years experience in the industry he is particulary active in the Group s financial services practice. Throughout his career he has worked on the licensing and on-going servicing of various types of collective investment schemes including UCITS and Hedge funds and investment services providers. Apart from the financial services, he has been involved in corporate law matters, privatisations and banking.
