8 1. Introduction KonyOne Platform provides an integrated approach in the mobile application design, development and management. The Platform facilitates the design and development of mobile applications in a device independent manner and delivers them in different formats that run on all the major device platforms. The KonyOne Platform consists of three main components: KonyOne Studio: The centerpiece design and development engine for creating mobile applications. KonyOne Server: Our middleware server for connecting mobile apps built in KonyOne Studio to services and data sources, and delivering optimized mobile web. Client Runtime component for each major device platform that enables the same mobile application to execute directly on the device. 1.1 KonyOne Studio KonyOne Studio is an integrated development environment (IDE) for rapid development and deployment of mobile applications. KonyOne Studio is provided as a plug-in to Eclipse, an open-source development environment. The KonyOne Studio offers an easy to learn and use visual development environment to design and develop the mobile applications. The primary element of KonyOne Studio is a visual developer panel that is used to design the application forms in a device independent wire-frame format. 1.2 KonyOne Studio Installation Guide This document provides installation instructions for KonyOne Studio and other relevant software that supports the installation. 1.3 Intended Audience This document is intended for engineers or developers who are responsible for installing and configuring KonyOne Studio. 10 1.7 Installation Prerequisites Read this information to understand the system requirements and necessary software before installing the Studio Software Requirements Operating System Windows XP/Vista/7/8 Software Requirement JDK 1.6 (minor version 14 or later) Eclipse IDE for RCP and RAP Developers 3.6.x. - Helios 32 Bit. The files that need to be downloaded and relevant download URLs are mentioned in the Install and Configure Emulators section. Make sure to check the correct download URLs at the time of your installation Installation Path The software installation paths (for Eclipse, SDKs, Emulators and other relevant software) provided in the document is for sample purpose only. In real-time installation, please use the actual installation paths of your machine. Page 10 of

11 2. Install and Configure KonyOne Studio This section of the document provides you with the instructions for installing and configuring KonyOne Studio. Please make sure that you have the required hardware and access to the supporting software mentioned in the Prerequisites section. 2.1 KonyOne Studio Installation Tasks To install KonyOne Studio successfully, follow these steps: Install Java Development Kit Setting Environment Variables Install Eclipse Launch Eclipse Install KonyOne Studio Launch KonyOne Studio Install and Configure ImageMagick Install and Configure Emulators Page 11 of

12 2.2 Installing Java Development Kit A Java Development Kit (JDK) provides the Java run-time environment (the Java Virtual Machine, or JVM) and tools for compiling and debugging Java applications. The Java Virtual Machine is required for Java applications to interpret the Java byte code so that the Java application can be run. The recommended JDK is "Java SE Development Kit 6" Update 32 (jdk-6u32- windows-i586.exe). The minimum supported JDK is Java SE 6 update Download JDK 1.6.0_32 from the following location: downloads html. 2. Install it on your machine. 3. Make a note of the destination directory while installing the JDK. This is required to configure the Java Home Environment Variable. Default path is set to C:\Program Files\Java. Note: If you are using the 64 bit operating system, make sure you download and install the 32 bit JDK on your machine. Page 12 of

13 2.3 Set Environment Variables Perform the following steps after installing the JDK: Set the JAVA_HOME Windows Environment Variable location to JDK installation path. (Example JAVA_HOME=C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.x). Set the Path to the bin directory of Java installation. (Example Path=C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.x\bin). To set the Environment Variable and Path in Windows XP: 1. Right click on My Computer and select Properties. 2. In the System Properties window, go to Advanced tab and select Environment Variables. 3. In the Environment Variables window, go to User Variables and select New. i. Enter JAVA_HOME in the Variable Name field. ii. Enter C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.x (as per the example) in the Variable Value field. iii. Click OK. 4. Select Path from User Variables and click Edit. i. Add C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.x\bin (as per the example) in the Variable Value field. ii. Click OK. To set the Environment Variable and Path in Windows Vista/7: 1. Right click on Computer and select Properties. System window appears. 2. Select Advanced System Settings link from the Control Panel Home pane. System Properties window appears. 3. Select Environment Variables. 4. In the Environment Variables window, go to User Variables pane and select New. Page 13 of

14 i. Enter JAVA_HOME in the Variable Name field. ii. Enter C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.x (as per the example) in the Variable Value field. iii. Click OK. 5. Select Path from User Variables and click Edit. i. Add C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.x\bin(as per the example) in the Variable Value field. ii. Click OK. Page 14 of

15 2.4 Installing Eclipse KonyOne Studio is provided as a plug-in and is integrated into Eclipse Integrated Development Environment(IDE). In order to run the KonyOne Studio IDE, you need to install Eclipse IDE on your machine. To install Eclipse, follow these steps: 1. Download Eclipse for RCP and RAP Developers version 3.6 (eclipse-rcp-helios-sr2-win32.zip (Helios 32 bit)) from =/technology/epp/downloads/release/helios/sr2/eclipse-rcp-helios-sr2- win32.zip. 2. Extract Eclipse to the same location. (Example C:\eclipse). Note: If you are using 64 bit Windows OS, make sure you download the 32 bit Eclipse (Helios) and not the 64 bit Eclipse (Helios). 16 2.5 Launch Eclipse To launch Eclipse, Eclipse has to be installed on the system. To install Eclipse, see Install Eclipse. To launch Eclipse, follow these steps: 1. Navigate to the drive where you have extracted Eclipse. For example, C:\. 2. Open the eclipse folder. 3. Double-click eclipse application file to launch Eclipse. Eclipse launches as shown below: 2.6 Workspace Workspace is a folder on the hard drive, which is a central repository of all application files. The applications you create in the IDE are saved in the workspace. A workspace can have any number of applications. When you launch Eclipse for the first time, workspace is automatically created in the user account/profile folder on your machine. To create or switch a workspace, follow these steps: Page 16 of

17 1. Create a folder on any drive of your machine. For example, D:\Myworkspace. Note: Make sure the name of the folder created as workspace do not have any spaces in it. 2. Open Eclipse. 3. Select File > Switch Workspace. If you like to switch to another workspace, select the workspace if the workspace you want to switch is already available in the list. Select Other if you want to select some other workspace or the newly created workspace. Workspace Launcher window appears. 4. Click Browse and choose the newly created workspace folder or any other workspace folder located on the hard drive. 5. Click OK. 6. Eclipse restarts and opens with the newly selected workspace. 18 2.7 Installing KonyOne Studio KonyOne Studio is provided as plug-ins and is integrated into Eclipse Integrated Development Environment(IDE). You can install the KonyOne Studio by manually copying the KonyOne Studio plug-ins into the dropins folder of Eclipse. You can also install the KonyOne Studio using the Install New Software feature of Eclipse. Both these methods are mutually exclusive and should not be clubbed for the installation/upgrade of the KonyOne Studio. For example, if you installed KonyOne Studio by copying the plug-ins into the dropins folder of Eclipse, use the same procedure to upgrade KonyOne Studio in future. For Automated Plug-in installation procedure, see the Automated Installation of KonyOne Studio section Installation Procedure To install the KonyOne Studio, you need to copy the Studio plug-ins into the dropins folder of Eclipse. Note: If you already used the automated installation of KonyOne Studio (through Help > Install New Software feature of eclipse), do not use this procedure to upgrade KonyOne Studio. Use the automated update instead. 1. Go to 2. Use the credentials provided by Kony Labs to access the site. 3. Navigate to the release folder. Example GA-V4.x. 4. Click on the link Direct Download under Quick download. It contains all the necessary plug-ins for the respective release. 5. Download Plugins-<Version>.zip. 6. Extract the file into the dropins sub-folder of the eclipse folder. (Example <Drive>:\Eclipse\dropins\) Note: If you already have previous version plug-ins in the <Drive>:\Eclipse\<dropins> folder, delete them before copying the latest plug-ins. 7. Restart Eclipse. Note: You could also download the plug-ins individually from the same location. Below is the list of plug-ins and their description: Page 18 of

(Mandatory for JavaScript Debugger) KonyOne Studio JavaScript Inline Debugger Plug-ins. It is available in two formats (both with the same name) -- light-weight(links to the videos) and heavy-weight (pre-built with videos). Download any one, based on your requirement. (Mandatory) KonyOne Studio Code Generation plug-in. This plug-in is mandatory for the generation of application code. Open the command prompt window. 2. Navigate to the Eclipse folder. 3. Run the command: eclipse.exe clean Eclipse is launched with the newly installed plug-ins. Page 20 of

21 2.8 Launching KonyOne Studio To launch the KonyOne Studio for the first time, you need to launch Eclipse first. For more information about launching Eclipse, see Launch Eclipse. Before launching the Kony Perspective, make sure you copy the license file provided by Kony to a location on your system. To configure KonyOne Studio as the development environment: 1. Open Eclipse. Eclipse opens with the default view, with Java Perspective being displayed on the top right corner. 2. Select Window > Open Perspective > Other. Open Perspective window appears. 3. Select Kony from the list and click OK. 4. The KonyOne Studio License window appears. Page 21 of

22 5. Browse to the location of the license file, select it and click Open. Make sure you have the KonyOne Studio license file at some location on your system. 6. Click OK. 7. KonyOne Studio starts with Kony Perspective. 2.9 Studio License You need to have the license file to launch and use KonyOne Studio. The Studio license file governs the time-based usage of KonyOne Studio. KonyOne Studio prompts for a license file under the following scenarios: When Kony Perspective is launched for the first time after installing KonyOne Studio. After the expiry of the existing license. If the license file is moved or deleted from its existing location. Page 22 of

23 2.10 Install and Configure ImageMagick Install ImageMagick on your machine and configure KonyOne Studio to access it. ImageMagick is used to generate background images from the skin attributes (applicable for Mobile Web only). For example, The basic version of XHTML does not support gradient background. To overcome this limitation, we generate an image with gradient using ImageMagick Install ImageMagick To install ImageMagick, follow these steps: 1. Download ImageMagick (ImageMagick Q16-windows-dll.exe) from 2. Double-click the downloaded file. 3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. Note: The version of ImageMagick shown above was the latest version available at the time of documentation release. You can pick the latest available version of ImageMagick from the above link Configure ImageMagick To configure path for ImageMagick 1. Open KonyOne Studio. 2. Select Window > Preferences. The Preferences window appears. 3. Select Kony Dev Studio > Build on the left pane. 4. In the ImageMagick Home field, browse and set the path to the location where ImageMagick is installed. 5. 24 3. Installing SDKs and Configuring Emulators Mobile device applications that are developed in KonyOne Studio need to be tested for their appearance and performance. In order to do this, you need device emulators. These emulators are provided by the device manufacturers or mobile platform vendors. Install and configure the following emulators to test the applications: iphone Android BlackBerry J2ME - Sun, Nokia, Sony Ericsson Windows 3.1 Emulators and SDKs Download the relevant emulators and SDKs from the device manufacturer or platform vendor websites, as per your installation requirement. The files that need to be downloaded are mentioned in the respective platform sections Post Installation Mapping After installing the Emulators and Other Components, their respective paths should be configured in the Studio. The Emulator Pane displays all the emulators available for the Studio. This pane is located at the bottom right corner of KonyOne Studio. The Emulators are visible only when an application is created in the IDE. 3.2 Installing iphone Note: To work with iphone related code or applications, you need to use the Macintosh system. Apple has developed a product suite xcode to develop applications on Mac OS X. The latest version of xcode, xcode 3.2 is bundled free with Mac OS X v10.6, but it is not installed by default. You have to explicitly install it from the Mac OS X DVD or download xcode from the Apple website at: If you install xcode 4.2, ios 5.0 SDK is bundled along with it. Page 24 of

25 xcode is a full-featured IDE. xcode integrates the editing of source code with the build and compile steps. For more information about xcode setup for iphone, see iphone_development/000-introduction/introduction.html. Before running the application on iphone emulator, follow these steps: 1. Download ios SDK 6.0 from 2. Install this SDK on the Apple Macintosh machine. 3. Open Xcode. Note: Minimum version of xcode supported is 4.2 and above for ios SDK 5.0 version. 4. Select Active Configuration as Release/Debug/Preview in the top-left dropdown in Xcode editor. 5. Select Project/Edit Active Target -> Release/Debug/Preview from Xcode menu. 6. Select Build/Clean All Targets from Xcode menu. To view an application on iphone/ipad emulator, follow these steps: 1. Download the iphone binaries from the download site provided by Kony and extract them to a folder, for example <HOME>. 2. Go to Terminal and enter the following commands: cd <HOME> cd VMAppWithKonylib\gen perl extract.pl <URL of app KAR> For example, perl extract.pl cd.. open VMAppWithKonylib.xcodeproj 3. Select Scheme as KDebug, KRelease, or Preview. KRelease for applications you want to release for Production. KDebug for applications you want to debug. To debug the application, the application must be built in the debug mode in KonyOne Studio. KPreview for previewing the applications. 4. Click Run in Xcode. This action builds and runs the current application. Note: Close the simulator if it is already open before clicking Run. 5. The simulator opens with Build Succeeded message and the application opens. Page 25 of

26 Note: For ease of development and deployment to an ios simulator, KonyOne Studio packages the application and its resources into a simple binary format referred to as KBF (KonyBinaryFormat), also referred to as KAR (KonyArchive). This file includes all the application resources like application byte code, images, and FFI dependencies. The KBF/KAR file is generated every time a build is performed for the ios platform. This file is deployed to the local Jetty server in the IDE and can be downloaded over an HTTP URL which look similar to the system:portno/appnamer/?type=iphone Note: If there are Jetty connectivity issues when working with Parallels on MAC machine, it is best to use absolute file reference to the KAR file to be extracted, versus via the Jetty Server (KAR file specified as an HTTP url). A given Kony Studio Application's Xcode KAR file is located in your workspace's WebApps directory. If you are using a dual partition Mac/Windows laptop, the absolute file path would look like: perl extract.pl /Volumes/C/Workspace-V4.0.02GA/webapps/GMr/kbf/konyappiphone.KAR 3.3 Installing Android To build and view applications using Android Platform, follow these steps: 1. Download and install Android SDK and support packages. 2. Download and install Ant Set Path for Android and Ant. 4. Post installation mapping Download and Install Android SDK and Support Packages Install Android SDK and other support packages on your machine. To install SDK, follow these steps: 1. Download the Android SDK Starter Pack (installer_<version>windows.exe) from 2. Install it on your machine. 3. Navigate to Start > All Programs > Android SDK Tools and select SDK Manager. 27 4. Select the following components from the list of available packages: i. Android SDK Tools ii. Android SDK Platform-tools iii. Android 2.1 (API 7). Note: : You must necessarily install the minimum supported SDK Platform Android 2.1, which inclues the Google APIs by Google Inc., Android API 7, before you install any higher version SDK and Google API. iv. Any version of Android SDK - above 2.1. (Preferably the latest SDK. Example. Android 4.1 (API 16)). Page 27 of

28 v. Click Install Packages. Choose Packages to Install window appears. vi. Select Accept All radio button and click Install. All the selected packages are downloaded and installed at the following location: C:\Program Files(x86)\Android\android-sdk. Page 28 of

29 Once the installation is complete, you will see the installed packages in the Android SDK Manager window Download and install Ant Download Ant (apache-ant bin.zip) from and extract it to a location on your machine. Example. <Drive>:\apache-ant Set Path for Android and Ant After the installation is complete, go to Windows Environment Variables window and set PATH for Android SDK and Ant, under User Variables: C:\Program Files(x86)\Android\android-sdk\tools C:\Program Files(x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools <Drive>:\apache-ant-1.8.2\bin Select Path from User Variables and click Edit. i. Use ";" as separator to add the path. Example C:\Program Files (x86)\android\android-sdk\tools;c:\program Files (x86) \Android\android-sdk\platform-tools;c:\apache-ant \bin. ii. Click OK Post Installation Mapping Once the above tasks are complete, configure the emulator in KonyOne Studio and set Android home in KonyOne Studio Preferences. Configure emulator path for Mobile: Page 29 of

30 1. In the Emulators window, Right-click on T3 under Android>Mobile emulator and select Edit. 2. In the Edit Emulator window, browse and select C:\Program Files(x86) \Android\android-sdk\tools\emulator.exe. 3. Click Finish. Configure emulator path for Tablet: 1. In the Emulators window, Right-click on GalaxyTab under Android>Tablet emulator and select Edit. 2. Note: You can also test the application on Windows 8 Laptop/desktop directly, without launching it in the simulator Windows Phone - Mango To run the Windows Phone Mango Emulator and test the applications, you need to download and install the Windows Phone Developer Tools RTW from Microsoft website. Double-click Windows Phone Mango emulator to test the application Windows Log Viewer A common log service is provided with all windows platforms (Windows Phone, Desktop/Kiosk and Windows Phone 6.5/6.0). You need to have administrative rights on your system to launch Windows log service. To make the log service work on limited user accounts (accounts without administrative rights), install the Windows Platform Logger Setup provided by Kony. The installation files are available under the Windows Phone section of the respective release at: Use the credentials provided by Kony to download the file from the portal. To install the Log viewer 1. Download the WindowsPlatformLoggerSetup.zip file from the Kony Developer Portal mentioned above. 2. Uncompress the file. WindowsPlatformLoggerSetup folder is created at the location where you uncompressed the zip file. 3. Open the folder and double-click the setup.exe file. 4. 41 5. Upgrade KonyOne Studio This section explains how to upgrade KonyOne Studio. Before you start make sure: You are connected to Internet. Your current licence is still valid to upgrade KonyOne Studio. You have valid credentials to access the Kony Developer Portal. Note: If you have already installed KonyOne Studio by manually copying the plugins to the dropins folder, make sure to delete all the plugins in the dropins folder before upgrading KonyOne Studio. Note: You can revert to older version if you find some feature is not working as expected after upgrading to the latest version. 5.1 Upgrade to latest version of KonyOne Studio To upgrade KonyOne Studio: 1. Open KonyOne Studio. 2. On the Help menu, click Install New Software. Page 41 of

To display all the plugins available for a particular platform, unselect Show only the latest versions of available software. For example, if Android's latest plugin is GA, then all the plugins GA, GA, and GA will display. 8. Expand each item, select the required plugins and click Next. The Install Details dialog box appears. Review the displayed plugins. You can use the Back button to change the selection. Page 44 of

Eclipse displays improper Workspace Error You may encounter this issue when you accidentally click on the emulator launch button twice. An "Improper Workspace" error is displayed as two instances try to access the same workspace. To resolve the error, close the error window and any other related window that is open and re-launch Eclipse. KonyOne Studio Automated Plug-in Installation Vs Manual Plug-in Installation To install KonyOne Studio, you can use either the Automated Plug-in Installation (Eclipse Help > Install New Software) or manually copy the plug-ins into the dropins folder of Eclipse. You cannot alternate between these two methods during a single installation. Kony recommends Automated Plug-in Installation, as this ensures the installation of all the required plug-ins for KonyOne Studio. "Kony" not visible in Open Perspective window during the installation of Kony Studio. KonyOne Studio perspective does not show up in the Open Perspective window if com.pat.soapui_x.x.x plug-in is not available in the plugins/dropins folder of Eclipse. Make sure that the plug-in is available in the plugins/dropins folder of Eclipse. KonyOne Studio Crashes - Eclipse "OutOfMemoryError" This is caused if insufficient memory is allocated to the Eclipse instance. This can be solved by increasing the max heap size allocated to Eclipse. To assign additional memory 1. Navigate to the Eclipse folder on your hard drive. 2.
