4 How to Read this Manual About this Manual The HDE Controller Installation Manual provides users with instructions to installing OS and the HDE Controller (this Product) as well as steps for configuring the initial settings of the Product. Annotations are provided for any matters requiring special attention and phrase supplements. Any matters which require special attention are marked with this "Alert" icon in bold frame. 6 1. Check Logs Manage the log files registered by each service. Select the "Check Logs" menu to view registered logs. View the content of a log file. You may also download and save the log file on the client machine. Select the log you wish to view from the pull-down menu. Specify the number of lines of the log file to be viewed by selecting "From Tail" or "From Head" and entering the number of lines. Click the "Download" or "View" button to view the log. 6 HDE Controller X Log Management Manual

7 2. Log Rotation Select the Log Rotation menu to access the configuration screen for log rotation. To add a new log file to the list of log files, select the name of the log file you wish to add from the "Log File Name" drop-down menu. Enter any explanation on the log in the "Comment" box. Click the "Add into List" button to add the log to the list of logs. To change the generation number and cycle of the log file, specify each value in the "Generation Number" and "Cycle" fields respectively. You can check the save location path of each log by placing your cursor onto the file icon on the right side of the comment column. Click the "Remove from List" button if you wish to remove a listed log. Click the "Configure" button to complete your settings. Log Management 7

8 3. Log Monitoring When running servers on Linux (Ex. Web servers), all process results executed in the background will be registered in log files. Keeping log files is an imperative process of server management as they are useful for determining the cause of errors or problems, monitoring daily activity status of the server, and investigating hackers or unauthorized accesses. The log monitoring configuration allows you to configure the settings for log monitoring using logsurfer. Logsurfer will monitor logs at all times and sends real-time mail reports when specific keywords are encountered. Address Settings Enter the address which you wish to receive real-time reports in the Address box. Add Log Files Add log files for log monitoring. You may either select typical types of logs from the list or specify your own log file by entering the log file name directly. Click the "Add" button to add the log file. Once the log file is added you will be taken to the edit rule screen. 8 HDE Controller X Log Management Manual

9 Rule Settings Add or edit rules for the monitored log file. The rules configured in this menu will be evaluated from top to bottom and actions matching to each rule will be executed. Once a rule is executed, any proceeding rules will no longer be evaluated. Rules configured here will be evaluated once per line in the log file. There are three parameters to each rule, "Regular Expression to match", "Regular Expression to ignore", and "Action", which are explained below. Regular Expression to Match Configure the regular expression for matching lines. Actions will be executed when the monitored line in a log file matches the regular expression specified here. Regular Expression to Ignore Action Configure the regular expression for ignoring lines. Actions will not be executed when the monitored line in a log file matches the regular expression specified here. Enter - or leave as black to omit this setting. You may choose from the following two actions: Ignore or Send Mails. Ignore: Perform no action. Use this if you do not wish to apply any further rules. Send Mails: Send an notification containing the content of the matched line. Log Management 9
