Communication vs. Communicate English interpretation process by which we assign and convey meaning in an attempt to create shared understanding Danish interpretation The way that we spread information both internally and externally. (Focus on the written word) 16
Communicate.. Conversation, dialogue, talking, speaking.verbal 17
Focus Content: words of the language. Many words have different meanings and then there is the translation. Context: way the message is delivered and the surroundings (including culture, tradition, experience). 18
19 Data is language neutral.

Intercultural Communication examines how people from different cultures, beliefs and religions come together to work and communicate with each other. anthropologist Edward T. Hall is credited with founding the scholarly field of intercultural communication during the period when he was at the Foreign Service Institute of the U.S. Department of States
Intercultural Communication Developed as a result of a merger of linguistic and anthropological perspectives. Hall concluded: Culture is communication and communication is culture 22
Intercultural Communication Strategies repeat what you understand confirm meanings give suggestions, and acknowledge a mutual understanding.
Discussion- Turn to your right Identify a situation when you had a communication failure. How did you learn it was a failure? How did you resolve the situation? 24
Summary I know that you believe that you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant. ~ Robert McCloskey ~
