3 Family & Medical Leave Act General Guidelines Employers with 50 or more employees (within a 75 mile radius) for each working day during 20 or more calendar workweeks in the current or preceding calendar year Provide eligible employees with job protected unpaid family and medical leaves of absence of up to 12 weeks during a 12 month period birth of a child and in order to care for that t child the placement of a child for adoption or foster care to care for a spouse, child or parent with a serious health condition due to the serious health lh condition dii of the employee (s/he is unable to perform the essential functions of his/her position) Maintain existing health care coverage during the leave
