She s proposed raising gas taxes 10 cents a gallon and creating an entirely new property tax on top of the one we already pay in order to fund more wasteful, big government. This has to stop. 10 direct mail- third party / ie Best candidate slate mail Richardson Coalition Place 1 Bob Townsend (Top Rated) In Richardson, Mr. Townsend is known as someone you can depend on. On fiscal issues, he is consistently conservative. With several new faces sure to be on the city council this year, Townsend, who has served four years as Mayor Pro Tem, will provide the experience we ll need on difficult issues like the budget. The Richardson Coalition highly recommends Townsend for Place 1. William Gordon Mr. Gordon, who has run unsuccessfully for city council twice before, is a clear no go for taxpayers. He sued the city of Richardson, costing taxpayers over $45,000 in legal fees even though the judge dismissed the case as moot. Despite being ordered by the court, Mr. Gordon has yet to repay the taxpayers over $4,700 for legal fees. Gordon received 10% of the vote in his 2003 campaign and 13% in The Coalition believes that the citizens have spoken and does not expect Mr. Gordon to do better in Place 2 Mark Solomon (Top Rated) Mr. Solomon was elected two years ago by voters looking for a fresh face and who liked his strong business background. Solomon won the election handily and served taxpayers well ever since. Solomon s reputation for honesty is well known. We highly recommend Solomon for re-election. John DeMattia Mr. DeMattia owns a pizza restaurant in town and has a long record of volunteer service. The Richardson Coalition frowns upon the fact that Mr. DeMattia made misleading statements to voters, claiming that the City of Richardson s budget is running at a loss when in fact the budget is and always has been balanced as required by law. In a notable flip flop, he actively campaigned against all 4 bond proposals. He now claims that he supported 2 of them. Mr. DeMattia stated that he pays more in business personal property taxes than the Texas Instruments Renner Road facility. What he doesn t tell you is that TI has paid almost $4.4 million in real property taxes to Richardson. These types of tactics confuse and frighten voters and are not acceptable for a candidate or a councilman. Place 3 Scott Dunn Mr. Dunn is a freshman candidate running unopposed in this year s election. He is a businessman with a long history of involvement in Richardson. The Richardson Coalition believes he is a strong candidate who will make a positive contribution on council, we highly recommend him. Place 4 Laura Maczka (Top Rated) Place 4 is open due to the retirement of Mayor Gary Slagel. Mrs. Maczka impressed the review committee with her knowledge of the issues and her singular focus on the issue of job creation. Her professional Who are we? The Richardson Coalition is a volunteer organization made up of business and neighborhood leaders, working together to improve the quality of life in Richardson. The Coalition is also concerned with the fiscal well being of the city. As a group, we favor lower taxes, balanced budgets and reduced government debt, along with job creation as the primary focus areas that unite all members. What is the Voter s Guide? Karl Voigtsberger Mr. Voigtsberger is well known to voters because of his frequent attempts to run for office. In 2008, he ran for Collin County Tax Assessor/Collector, receiving just 23% of the vote. In 2010, he ran for Collin County Commissioner and received just 17%. While we appreciate his determination, we believe Mrs. Maczka is a much stronger candidate. Place 5 Kendal Hartley (Top Rated) Mr. Hartley is like that old E.F. Hutton commercial: When he talks, people listen. Hartley is a man of few words, not what you see often enough in public office. That makes him very appealing. As a 40- year resident, he is truly one of us. Hartley speaks passionately about our city, his plans for revitalizing it, and for protecting citizens from higher taxes and fiscal irresponsibility. Hartley is in the real estate business and understands the problems homeowners are facing. Hartley has a long history of service to our city; serving eight years on the Parks Commission, five as its chairman, four years on the City Planning Commission, and two on the Sign Control Board. The Richardson Coalition highly recommends Kendal Hartley for Place 5. Dennis Stewart Two years ago Mr. Stewart was not re-elected by Richardson voters after Pol. serving Adv. just paid one for term by Richardson city council. This year, Mr. Stewart, a retired city employee, is running again. And even with the budgetary challenges this year, he proposed translating city documents into Spanish at an estimated cost to the city of $100,000. Stewart s views on raising taxes and increasing government spending are out of step with today s reality. We don t believe that the city can afford to take another chance on Mr. Stewart. Place 6 Steve Mitchell For the second election in a row, Councilman Mitchell is unopposed. Mr. Mitchell supported the city s bond proposals in 2010 and the new development at Richardson s DART stations. Please be sure to cast your vote for Mr. Mitchell again this year. Diana Clawson Mrs. Clawson did not respond to our request for information. She is a good neighborhood volunteer and a leader in her HOA. She is in the right place to be an asset to her community. She does not have a clear position on big picture issues, or a well communicated city wide vision for the future. We encourage Mrs. Clawson to stay involved and support her neighborhood. PHOTO Alan North NOT Mr. North has failed to attend any candidate forums or presented AVAILABLE himself at any of the opportunities to meet the public. The telephone number he provided the city when he filed for office is not a working number. He has failed to reply to our requests for information. As a result, we have no information about him and therefore cannot recommend him. Amir Omar (Top Rated) Mr. Omar, who has been a staunch fiscal conservative since before he served in the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets, has been a star in his first term on the city council. Councilman Omar s high energy and tenacity keeps the city s management staff on their toes. Working with the Mayor and fellow Councilmen, Mr. Omar s efforts helped lead to over $4 million in savings for the tax payers in just his first term.
