3 Who We Are Georgia s largest nonprofit, family-service agency providing holistic services to children and families in jeopardy, including: Adoption & Foster Care Post-Adoptive Family Resources Teen Parenting Services Counseling Services Transitional & Supportive Housing Financial Budget Training & Asset Development

4 Our History Families First has a 124 year legacy evolving from the work of five different family service organization merges committed to improving the lives of children and families. These are some of our most impactful accomplishments: 1890 Families First originated with the founding of Leonard Street Orphanage 1907 The Atlanta Children s Home was founded to support young mothers in need of shelter and care 1937 Became the first licensed adoption agency in Georgia 1964 Developed the first group home for troubled teens in Georgia 1987 Officially renamed Families First 1991 Designed and launched Weaver Gardens to provide independent living skills for young, homeless, firsttime mothers. This facility was the first of its kind in the country.

5 Georgia s Numbers Georgia ranks as the sixth worst state in the nation for child poverty. 38 out of every 1,000 teenage girls in Georgia will become pregnant this year. 1.8 million Georgians do not have enough money to meet basic needs, such as food, housing and medication. 88% of people living in poverty in Atlanta, live in the suburbs.

6 Who We Serve by Numbers In , Families First served 40,032 individuals Beneficiaries of our services were primarily: African-American (43%) or Caucasian-American (18%) Single (27%), married/partnered (8%) Infant, youth or young adult (34%) Five-county metro-atlanta residents (57%) Earn incomes less than twice the federal poverty level (26%) 6,579 clients were served within our Creating Families Impact Area 22,652 clients were served within our Strengthening Families Impact Area 7,539 clients were served within our Sustaining Families Impact Area

7 Theory of Change Families First s Theory of Change all begins with the family. Families are the foundation of our community and children are our collective progeny and most treasured resource. If we encircle families with the necessary supports and resources to be successful, children will thrive and flourish. When a community actively supports families, families in turn will nurture thriving, successful children who will transform and strengthen community.

9 In One Year Creating Families In Georgia, there are approximately 7,700 children in foster care. At least 19 foster care adoptions placed two or more siblings with a family 32 youths were matched with mentors in the Make- It Click Program. 94% Second Chance Home residents were graduates or enrolled in education programs

10 In One Year Sustaining Families 4 out of 10 Georgia working families are low-income 74% of people from the Shelter-a- Family Program graduated from transitional housing or maintained housing for more than a year 94% of Ways to Work borrowers reported that their car helped them to improve their employment circumstances.

11 In One Year Strengthening Families In Georgia, approximately 380,000 children suffer from at least one or more mental, behavioral or developmental conditions. 94% of people who received counseling services report progress on mental health or relationship goals More than half of children of divorced families improved in coping skills after completing an Effective and Nurturing Parenting program.
