2 CENTRAL CAROLINA COMMUNITY COLLEGE - HARNETT CAMPUS Nursing Assistant Level I Welcome to Central Carolina Community College - Harnett Campus - N.A. I Program This certificate program involves 56 hrs classroom instruction, 54 hrs skills lab and 40 hrs clinical experience. Upon satisfactory completion of the course, students will be allowed to take the written and skills competency evaluations for placement on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry. This course requires a strong commitment from the student to make time to study and to prepare for each class session and actively participate in scheduled laboratory and clinical sessions. The college and instructors expect students to commit to excellence. In return, the student can expect to be trained to be a safe and competent nursing assistant. You will then be more than adequately prepared to sit for the State Competency Testing. The North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulations (DHSR) Nurse Aide I Registry is the credentialing entity for all Nursing Assistant I s. It is your responsibility to keep DHSR updated on your current address once you are certified. Every two years, DHSR sends all renewals through the mail and if the address is incorrect and the renewal is returned to DHSR, they do not send it out again until they have a current address. If you do not renew on time you are not allowed to work until DHSR has all the information they need. Keeping your address correct will assure that your renewal is timely every two years. The information contained in this booklet outlines the policies, rules, and requirements of the CCCC - Harnett Campus - Nursing Assistant I program. 6/08 lss 1

7 NA I ONLINE HYBRID GUIDELINES In the NA I and NA II HYBRID courses all classroom work is delivered online. The student must log into the course at least twice a week to keep up with announcements and submit assignments. The beauty of this course is that you have a choice of the place and time to study instead of being required to be in a classroom at a certain time two, three, or four days a week. The material delivered online is exactly the same material that is given in the classroom. The student is only required to come to a physical location for lab days and clinical rotations. When you register for a Hybrid class a copy of the days that the class will meet for lab and clinical are given to you. There are no make-up days for lab and clinical hours, plan to attend each of the days listed. You will be checked off on skills competency prior to and during your clinical rotation. Most testing for Hybrid courses will be done on scheduled lab days, your lab/clinical instructor will administer all tests and quizzes given throughout the class. All of the rules in this handbook apply to Hybrid class Nursing Assistant students. Blackboard is used as the delivery method for the Theory part of your course. It is a very easy program to navigate and you will be given ample time to find your way around. When you register for a class you will be given instructions on how to enter your class in Blackboard. You will use the school carrier for all course communication with your fellow classmates and with your instructor. Your online instructor will be there to help you as needed throughout the course. Your online instructor may not be the same as your lab/clinical instructor depending on the volume of class registration. All clinical sites utilized for seated and hybrid classes are the same. 6 6/08 lss
